Pros I like that Expensify is very easy to use. I have enjoyed working with this app to upload my receipts and expenses directly to it so that I can get all of that taken care of in one simple app. I’m able to report all my transactions on a daily basis and get everything squared away. My team enjoy working with this app I am so glad they picked it for our company. It is a very valuable program that any customer would enjoy using. I haven’t ran into any issues at all with it. I was honestly so delighted when I found out my current company was using them since I knew how easy it was to use. Pros I love Expensify. It's the quickest way for me to get my money back after a big trip. As a salesperson, it can cost me several thousand dollars for a trip, so it is a great peace of mind to know I am getting those funds back right away. I have used other software like Workday, and find Expensify 1000% easier. The best part is its autoscan feature, which allows me to take pictures on my phone throughout my trip and then makes it a lot easier to process them when I get home. Cons A few times the auto-scan feature didn't work when scanning receipts on my computer, but I restarted, and it eventually started again. Cons I have been using Expensify for about a year now and have not run into any cons that I can think of for what we use it for. The fact that there is a smartphone application makes it so that you don't have a weekly/monthly wad of receipts that you have to report/track. For me, when travelling, I would say that I lose about 20-30% of my receipts each trip, each month. Pros It is extremely convenient to take a picture of your receipt and have Expensify automatically create the expense item for you. It will capture vendor/company, dates, $ amounts, etc. All you need to do is confirm and add customers and reason for expense. Cons Sometimes Expensify will duplicate expenses if you aren't patient. If you take a picture or upload a receipt then simultaneously try to manually edit, it will create two duplicate expenses and not accept one of them. Even though I’m not fully convinced by the new design, the fact that the legacy UI is still accessible keeps the experience smooth and comfortable. Overall, it’s a tool I trust and happily recommend—5 stars from me. Pros Expensify has been my go-to expense management tool for years. It’s reliable, powerful, and once everything is set up, it makes tracking expenses and reimbursements almost effortless. It's been a delight to work with for 4 years. I do hope not much gets updated or changed, because it's nearly perfect as it is. Pros The best aspect of Expensify is ease of use. In my previous job in academia, I used similar products like Concur (which were just OK) or had to manually download forms, fill them out, and upload and email them. Expensify automates almost all of that process. It's just so simple to drag-and-drop a receipt or invoice and then let Expensify parse the receipt for dates and expense totals. Reports are then generated very very quickly after receipts are parsed and Expensify automatically sends the report to your supervisor (and/or finance). I've been using Expensify for 4 years now, and while I can't speak to the quality of tech support (because I've never needed them!), I can tell you that this is incredibly valuable software that saves a ton of time. I've truly never experienced any issues or bugs. It's 1000% secure and I've never had a problem with it. Cons I've never experienced an issue with Expensify. However, a 'nice to have' feature would be cross-account syncing, such that Expensify automatically ports over receipts/invoices for recurring expenses I know my employer will reimburse and then sends the report by itself. That way I wouldn't even have to collect a receipt for a monthly recurring expense or manually tinker in Expensify at all unless the expense is unique. Review Source Bilyan B. The expense classification is accurate and learns quickly when you add the same vendor a second time. I also find it very easy to have an email forward inbox that can recognize multiple incoming email addresses. Cons The duplicate expense detection can get overly aggressive. I have valid expenses in the same amount from the same vendor on the same day that are not duplicates - like airline wifi charges on a longer trip - but they always get flagged. The payment and reimbursement process is also much more efficient, and expense tracking has never been more seamless. Cons I cannot think of a thing. Any issues I had were centered around learning something new which can bring about a certain type of anxiety for people who learn differently. I originally learned about it from a client who used it before working with me. I signed up for an account and then started recommending it to other clients as well. Pros I love how easy it is for clients to upload receipts. If I am not sure what a receipt is for, they can code it for me, so that I can enter it properly in their accounting software. It is easy to use for both my clients and myself as a bookkeeper. It is also very affordable for small businesses and offers a lot of features. I only needed the receipt management function, but it offers a lot more. Cons I don't have anything that I don't like about Expensify. It works well for what I use it for. I don't use its full capability as far as expense reports goes; I only use it for receipt management, and it works well. My only small complaint is that they email me A LOT. Pros The mobile app is extremely easy to use for my expense reports when traveling for work. Given I’m in outside sales and on the road a lot this makes my manager super happy because I’m able to capture my expenses as I go and turn in my final expense reports in a timely manner. I use to be horrible about back tracking to scan receipts and uploading for approval. The app eliminated this barrier for me and now I don’t mind doing my expense reports. When it works, it can be a helpful tool for organizing spending. However, that convenience is completely overshadowed by their terrible billing practices and lack of customer support. Cons I've had recurring, shady issues with Expensify’s billing system, and after my latest experience, I can’t recommend this platform. I never canceled my personal subscription, yet it was automatically canceled due to a failed credit card charge—without any notification that my card had declined. Somehow, my new credit card (which I never manually updated) was mysteriously applied to a Group account I never created or authorized—and I started getting charged $10/month for it. Expensify’s billing system is confusing, opaque, and borderline deceptive. There was no email or notification when my new card was added, no transparency about how this happened, and no easy way to fix it. Given that I travel frequently, I expect clear, upfront billing—instead, I keep running into unauthorized charges and a lack of accountability. If you’re considering Expensify, be extremely cautious about their billing practices. They make it way too easy for unexplained charges to show up, and their lack of transparency is concerning. One of my favorite features? If I forget my physical Expensify card (which used to happen more than I’d like to admit), I can still get reimbursed quickly and easily. First, I would like to be able to remove receipt images on my profile. Second, I think there should be an option to check "missing receipt" or "no receipt was provided" to handle cases where a receipt was simply not provided from the merchant, and a textbox that allows the submitter to add context. Third, the new Expensify layout can be completely blocked (it will say that it locked by admin) when the old one is usable. Pros I liked some of the features including OCR scanning of receipts as it made submission of international receipts easier. I also liked the mileage tool and that it can handle multiple stops. Cons Some of the UI is very buggy or isn't intuitive. When submitting receipts, it automatically pauses your workflow while the OCR is reading it. This can take several minutes and sometimes it's far quicker to submit details manually. Also, if you add a receipt but do not attach it to a specific report, there does not seem to be any way to remove it so it stays on your profile indefinitely which is super annoying.
