It’s flexible without being flimsy, structured without being restrictive. Once dialed in, it streamlines communication, workflow management, and customer relationships in a way that supports growth instead of slowing it down. It’s especially strong for teams that want control, customization, and room to evolve.

Pros

The level of customization sets it apart. Magazine Manager allows you to shape the system around how your team actually works, rather than forcing you into rigid workflows. The built in AI tools are genuinely useful, helping streamline communication and refine brand voice, while the overall platform supports organization, scalability, and long term growth.

Cons

Because it’s so customizable, there is a learning curve. Especially for teams that want to jump in fast without configuring workflows first. Some features aren’t immediately intuitive, but once you understand the system logic, it becomes much more powerful.

My overall experience has been great. The live chat is a lifesaver and the production workflow tracking saves me so much time over how I used to do it.

Pros

Huge number of ways to pull data. Production work flow is easily tracked and quick to update. Requests for changes in the MM system are welcome and seriously considered when they do updates. Excellent customer service and live chat.

Cons

Since there are so many options, there is a moderate learning curve to master everything. We continue to have a glitch with our emails and are not able to link outbound client/prospecting emails to the MM account.

### "A solid product that can do it all, if you can figure out how to use it."

Pros

We were managing our printed magazine with a series of spreadsheets on Google until we jumped to Magazine Manager. Now our team has real-time access to billing, contracts, pagination and flatplanning. It hasn't been easy and continues to present difficulties, but overall I'd say using Magazine Manager has been a benefit for our company.

Cons

Though they've tried facelift after facelift, I feel that the product is just so complex and has so much "technical debt" at this point in time that it needs a complete rewrite from the ground up in order to feel like a modern product. It is complex software designed to manage complex businesses, but it just doesn't meet the user interface and usability we're accustomed to in 2018.

Pros

Well organized, great customer support, Good value, fast and reliable. I'm comfortable with the CRM and know our data is safe and it's easy to get help and training when I need it.

There are too many options on the menus, it's hard to remember where a certain report or option lives.

The quality of Magazine Manager is excellent for sales and publications. The team does their best to respond to issues quickly, and I really appreciate the ongoing support. Pros

Magazine Manager has been a great addition to my workflow. I really like the platform—it’s intuitive, keeps me organized, and makes it easy to stay on top of priorities. The client tracking and goal-setting tools are especially helpful, and I love having the ability to monitor performance and quickly reference customer history in one place. I’m also looking forward to using more of the production applications as I continue working in the system. Overall, it’s a well-built platform that supports day-to-day efficiency and better long-term planning.

Cons

I do wish there were a way to copy and paste proposals even after they’ve passed the close date, with the ability to update and refresh them as needed.

It works great for us. The support in getting it set up and learning it was great. Also really good training each time we hire someone new.

Pros

Magazine manager was made for publications so it is great for managing both the advertising side and the circulation side. It also helps us do more with our data.

Cons

The one thing I don't like is that you can't map email addresses input through the email upload back to contacts in the CRM. Those two areas are not as connected as I'd like.

Outstanding. I have used multiple CRM platforms and have found the experience with The Magazine Manager second-to-none.

Pros

Hands down, the best CRM platform for a magazine publisher. The team at Mirabel Technologies is investing heavily in technology (think AI), and the customer support is second to none. If you are considering a switch and want to improve your team's productivity significantly, I highly recommend taking a close look at The Magazine Manager. It seamlessly integrates everything from CRM to production, to accounting, and they are even working on editorial integrations.

Cons

It's challenging to identify a downside to The Magazine Manager, so I have to dig deeper. Sometimes it is like drinking out of a firehose? That can be a good thing—rapid advancements and constantly improving. Minor improvements would be to simplify the ability to merge active accounts without tech support, and create a template to easily create a sales-to-goals dashboard by product for management (team individually).

Overall - it's been great! MM listens to their customers. MM has taken some of my suggestions/complaints over the years and have made updates. Customer Service is above a 5 star rating - \[sensitive content hidden\] (our 1st consultant), \[sensitive content hidden\] (our consultant now), \[sensitive content hidden\] ! They are amazing and always up for the challenge of my questions and quick to find a solution.

Pros

The automations that have been added. Like the auto convert of proposals and signed copy to client files. Love having a complete system - from orders, production and layout, Marketing emails, comp subscriptions, etc.

Cons

Some of the "accounting" functions. Could be more Accounting friendly. The access to customer portal. We have customers that have issues and are unable to help them unless they give us their password - not sure how that is more secure.

We've partnered with Magazine Manager for almost 10 years now, and my publisher knows not to even bother to suggest changing to another CRM. I can quantify (and assign revenue to) ways Magazine Manager and Marketing Manager have made us more efficient and more successful. That is a rare thing and I am not about to give it up!

Pros

I have so many positive things to say about Magazine Manager, but when people ask me for a recommendation, I focus on the 3 most important reasons we love working with them--ease of use, responsive and knowledgeable customer service, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The customer service is what keeps us sold, and new features help us make more money. Win-win!

Cons

The only thing I don't like about Magazine Manager is the integration with Outlook. I am constantly telling people to "use their bcc!" because we are not gmail-based.

You get out of it as much as you put into it. It can be a simple client and contract tracker or you can use it for every little thing. So robust!

Pros

Magazine Manager is very robust while being user friendly! You can easily track everything you need to. Software updates take user feedback into account and improve the software year after year.

Cons

It won't make the calls for me! Just kidding. I don't have any cons at this time.

Solid experience so far. I've found that the essential things I need coming from a Salesforce-heavy background are satisfied.

Pros

In the short amount of time I've been using Magazine Manager as my daily CRM, I've found it very easy to find new tools to incorporate into making my daily routing.

Email integration took a bit of time for our internal operations team but it is working well now.

My experience has been insightful, engaging, and successful. I sing your praises to other like businesses whenever I get the chance.

Pros

There are so many features and benefits to this tool I am not sure where to start. Well, let's start with the level of customer service your team provides, in terms of knowledge, timely feedback, and incredible listening skills to the point of making platform changes in real-time. The sales reps are typically knee-deep in their CRM and I appreciate the insight of fellow reps sharing input on how to evolve this tool to ensure their success. I have used at least 10 different CRMs over the course of my career and have used both MM and NM- This is by far the BEST CRM out there!

Cons

The templates are still wonky and not as flexible as I would like in terms of changing layouts and having standard information feed into each proposal, as opposed to having to fill them in each time. Too time-consuming.

And I knew we were looking into other CRM software, so based on my past experience with MM and knowing \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\]( who BTW- is just fabulous) and how great the customer service was, I recommend this to \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] and how it could pull all the work we were doing in multiple platforms under one CRM. Simplify, ease of workflow, efficient processes, and literally an all-in-one. I am hoping more magazines will be open to jumping onboard with MM. They won't regret it.

### "Perfect for a small newspaper preparing to expand"

We are picking up a paper whose subscription rate had fallen, but has the potential to increase both locally and, with current media projects, nationally. So we wanted to be ready when this occurred. The training and problem solving with \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] and others was great. If \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] needed an expert, she immediately sent a message to that person and they were able to jump into our training or fix any oddities. Our advertising customers seem to be responding to our news system fairly well. We currently use another program to publish our interactive paper, but the idea of having the ability to create a similar product and have automatic tear sheets is encouraging as we expand. Right now the paper is run by two owners, so having this software will really help us keep workflow controlled. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\], our customer service advisor and trainer was beyond awesome. She was patient, familiar with the product, knew when to call in the experts for each section and made all the difference in affirming our decision to choose Newspaper Manager

Pros

We needed software that could track and invoice advertising in two different publications, yet with the same contact list. Once the agents helped us set up our letters and rate cards, it was great. When we became new owners, there were no contracts being used. Now we can create a proposal and with a touch of a button, it can become a contract and then an invoice when it is time to bill. The portal for paying with credit cards is great. It also helps us keep track of agency billing, legal ads, and the dreaded classified ad. We like that it sends transactions to Quickbooks when we are ready in order to help us keep everything moving smoothly.

Cons

We are also using the circulation feature. It is currently being upgraded. I hope the future upgrade allows us to automatically send renewal notices via email with a portal for customers to pay, however, with accurate emails, we can send a csv file of the subscription notices to Mail Chimp. We set up the Newspaper Manager software using Authorize.net, but when were setting up the circulation manager, it was discovered that Authorize.net doesn't work with adding a source code to our website for online subscriptions. That was frustrating as it took about six weeks to get Authorize.net on board. I hope that is fixed and incorporated.

Reason for choosing The Magazine Manager

The cost was the biggest decision. The other software was impressive, but far beyond our ability to pay as a small publication.

Overall, it was easy to start using, and I keep attending the training seminars which help me add more of it's features to use. I know I'm just scratching the surface, having only used MM for 5 months.

Pros

It gives one database management center, easy to schedule activities and differentiate type of activities; can rate level of prospects. Like the ability to write notes and am eager to use the new AI feature to summarize the notes from prospects & customers.

Cons

Reports can be complicated to set up. If I schedule an activity that changes, it's hard to adjust it. Have to clear out the inbox even when a task has been marked completed.

It's just overall an awesome platform for sales reps in publishing companies. I'm sure the features on the production side are just as great but we only really use it for the Prospecting & Sales aspect of the business if that makes sense.

Pros

The ability to add any number of custom fields or customer groups and then being able to do an advanced search on those data points AND save that built search query for future use.

Cons

Good question - if I was asked this say 4 years ago I would have a long running list. However, Mirabel Technologies has made so many improvements to the underlying platform and added so many new features the last couple years I really can't think of much that I "don't" like.

Although the up-front time and effort to learn and set up the software can feel overwhelming, it's ultimately worth it--which is why we've been such loyal customers for 5+ years. Once everything on the back end of the software is up and running, you'll be glad you chose The Magazine Manager. Gone are the days of handwritten paper tickets and missing customer information. Our sales staff, accounting staff, HR and production all utilize the software on a daily basis and it's become a staple of our company.

Pros

Convenient cloud-based program which allows access to all ad sales, contacts and production notes from any computer device with internet access. It's a central hub for sales, accounts receivable, production and even Human Resources, making it a very convenient tool in your publisher's toolbox. They also have an app for smartphones--though the app is somewhat limited in only allowing data to be viewed, not changed. They've stepped up their customer service in the last year and it's been great! They also have a fantastic database of instructional videos on how to use the software - topics are wide ranging and thorough.

Cons

The software requires a great deal of training and education to use in order to reap the full benefit. This is not a software for the easily distracted or completely tech illiterate. Nor should you expect to simply "hit the ground running" once you have an account. Plan for lots of training, which they'll do for you. In fact, they generally wont allow you to begin using the software without a minimum # of hours of training -- so be prepared. They do require quite a bit of behind the scenes setup from your admin(s) as well. For example, setting up rate cards, templates and publication schedules is something you or your admin(s) will need to learn how to do and it can be a little overwhelming at first. Lastly, the circulation side of Magazine Manager falls a bit short. It's there if you need it, but it's very clunky and quite limited in scope, at least for now. Perhaps that will be changing in the future.

### "Magazine Manager CRM Review"

I've used many crms and in terms of usability and functionality for people who sell, this is by far the best one I've used. I am able to customize my experience to make it work very efficiently for me, so I'm not wasting my time fighting with my crm!

Pros

Magazine Manager offers excellent reporting tools for the sales team, and advanced search functions of the data allow me to get very detailed on the information I'm looking for. The company is always adding new features and refining and improving existing ones. I am amazed at how often new features roll out. It is quite impressive how much work is put into making this product better and better.

Cons

No cons that I can think of about the Magazine Manager. They will be offering a gmail integration soon that I have been wanting. And when that happens it will be awesome. I will be able to email up to 20 people at once and it will get logged into the system automatically.
