Pros The program is easy to use, mostly self-explanatory and logical. If help is needed the help is there in short order. Very comprehensive program. While the program does handle pledges, our church does not make pledges. We merely track donations in the form of cash or cheques or e-transfers. For this purpose, I HIGHLY recommend this program! Pros I tried a few programs early on in my time as treasurer (which is 17 years now), including Quickbooks and Donarius. I found Donation much easier to use than Donarius. Our needs are fairly straightforward and Donation allows for easy multiple donation entries for a given day. Also, the support has been great. Every question I've ever asked was answered usually within 24 hours. They even added features to the program at my request! Cons This program is really meant for tracking donations only. It's not meant to be a complete CRM system, so some folks may find it limited in that regard. Pros The price was the best part. It was pretty easy to learn as well and teach others the program. Cons This needs improvement in many areas. For a small nonprofit that is just starting, it works well. We have grown to a place where we needed more features that it simply does not offer. Our intended market is small to mid-sized non-profits, so we are certainly not trying to have all of the features that larger organizations, or ones that either want a full-featured church management program or major fundraising program, would have. We are happy to hear that your organization has grown sufficiently to need a larger program! Accessible from other computers if you get the appropriate version. Pros Great product, easy to use. Inexpensive but not "cheap". Great support/help. Fantastic for smaller non profits. Cons We only stopped using it because we got very large and needed to interface with Planning Center. We were smaller and didn't like the interface of planning center and the ease of use wasn't there with using QuickBooks Desktop Premier (which we were using for finances). In the end we only stopped using Donation because we needed to integrate with Planning Center and at the time that was not an option. Review Source DH Donna H. Every feature it offers is reliable, updates are smooth. Outstanding customer service and support. Pros Donation is a user friendly, intuitive DMS. I have used a variety of DMS and have never wished Donation had a feature I needed. In fact, I enjoy that it is basic without a bunch of complicated stuff I don't need. It has all the reporting features I need and comes with outstanding customer support. I have already recommended Donation to another non-profit, which they ultimately transitioned to. Cons Maybe just add some auto formatting in the Postal Code and Phone number fields but not a big deal. Reason for choosing DONATION Donation was already in place at the organization I came to work in. I have used other DMS software at other non-profits. I am very happy with the pricing, functionality and support from Donation, in fact I referred another non-profit I worked at to this product and they ultimately purchased it. There is already auto-reformatting of phone numbers when saving donors. For instance, any of "123-456-7890", "123 456 7890" or even "1234567890" are reformatted to "(123) 456-7890". SF Sue F. It will print out your receipts, thank you letters, and year-end tax statements for your donors. The learning curve is very short in all areas but one. Their tech support is quick. The cost is very reasonable. There are updates throughout the year and as long as you pay the yearly maintenance fee the problem will be always up to date. Cons Is can be difficult to set up your thank you letters. There are templates that you can edit, but it does not always follow correctly. In our experience, the only time mail-merge documents get seriously messed up is if you edit them in Microsoft Word, which can somehow make the merge fields not work. Other than that it's pretty much what you see is what you get. If you have further our outstanding problems with mail-merge letters don't hesitate to contact us for support. Produces report at end of financial year for treasurer and for tax reclaim. Able to import donations given directly to bank via editing a spreadsheet download from the bank. Cons As based in Canada and USA does not quite fit UK system, although accounting year is now possible based on UK fiscal calendar. February 4, 2020 5.0 Overall, my experience has been very positive. We have been using DONATION since 2012 and keep renewing! Pros DONATION is very easy to use, is affordable and has fantastic help files when you need them. Additionally, our administrative office houses two separate agencies and we are able to have two separate agencies in the same system for the same price. When entering a donation we simply have to choose the agency and the system does the rest. Our Fundraising Committee also uses the software to create mail merges as Donation also serves as our database. Support is excellent through the Help section and videos. Amazing how fast customer service replies to questions that I have directed to him. We don't use the Account software as I am familiar with QuickBooks. Pros Ease of use. Frequent updates. Director Used the software for: ### "Review of DONATION" October 23, 2013 5.0 We are a relatively small (150 donors), local charity working in international development. DONATION is perfect for me to track donations and donors as well as to generate useful reports, email notices and mailing labels. The whole data base is accessible for customizing reports or generating special lists. Although these take some time to create, the Help section provides abundant instructions and examples to get the job done. Updates are available frequently and individual help if necessary is available. I have found Dan to be prompt and helpful when questions have arisen. The price is right. The only "con" I can think of is the lack of ability to directly do some stats on the data base. This is not a problem because the data can be easily downloaded into Excel for analysis and graphing. Previously our Non-profit organization along with the church my friend s attends, all entries were done manually. This program has saved hours of time and because you can choose to send out official tax receipts once a year the cost savings for envelopes and stamp is amazing. The program writer, Dan Cooperstock is very helpful by email or phone if you have any questions regarding the program, he is a wonderful fellow. Deacon Used the software for: ### "A Church Treasurer's Best Friend" October 24, 2013 4.0 The program made it all very easy. Batch entries by day, deposit prep, export ability to accounting programs, this program had it all for a very small price. The free version, with limited features, assisted us in deciding that this was the program we wanted to use. We are able to get reports throughout the year, print receipts for tax purposes that meet all the requirements of Canada Revenue Agency. You even have the option of printing all the collection detail if needed as well as the type of funds received. Even past years were available if needed to reprint receipts. The only downside relates to the set up of categories (for our various cause collections) which we had to do a couple of times. Online help as there but was not clear enough. Most organizations would also have a bookkeeping / accounting program, such as my ACCOUNTS fund accounting program, QuickBooks etc. DONATION can export a bank deposit transaction for importing into ACCOUNTS or QuickBooks, so no double-entry is required. When I took on this position, I found that the donor income tax receipts, and the thank you letters to the donors were being done manually. I needed to find a software that was reasonably priced that could automate the preparation of CRA approved income tax receipts for donations to a charitable organization. I found DONATIONS software and downloaded the trial version. It is easy to use, the customer support was exceptional and not only did it prepare the donor income tax receipts but it also prepares the donor thank you letters and the bank deposit slip. October 23, 2013 4.0 I am the Treasurer of a non-profit community theatre group which has patrons, corporate donors and members, all of whom qualify for a tax receipt for their annual dues. I have used "DONATION" in one form or another for three years now and I have found that it makes the task of keeping track of these different types of donations very simple. The issue of receipts at Tax Return time is done automatically and that, for me is a great "plus". If I have any criticism, it is that one has to change the year through the "Maintenance" tab in order to list previous donations. There might be an easier way of doing that. It really improves our efficiency and able to keep proper record of each Church member. The support and service is fast and can answer our questions in very short time. The only thing I would like to see it improves is that the pledge can be carried forward to next year. Currently we can only manage pledges for the same year. It is easy to set up and use, has all the report options that I need and most importantly, issues correct official charitable tax receipts. When I did have a question, I received an email answer quickly and the help menu is extensive. When I was looking for a donation program, I discovered that many organizations only use Excel which is very time consuming and cumbersome. I have recommended this software to them.
