Overall, HIP is a great software program, especially for the money, when it works right and as long as you don't need phone support on the weekends.

Pros

HIP produced really professional and easy to read reports. The software is user friendly overall and is a good value for the money.

Cons

The programmers obviously have never been inspectors out in the field, which led to a myriad of wide ranging issues. Instead of focusing on marketing bells and whistles, there should be more focus on user-related issues like, but not limited to: - Not being able to move photos around within the 4 panel Photos Section - Photo runaway when trying to rearranging photos in the damage panel, which is especially annoying. - The discontinuation and lack of phone support on the weekends is maddening. We don't have time to spend an hour in a chat frame typing and copying and pasting trying explaining an issue that could be addressed and rectified in a five minute or less phone call. - The overall lack of response to trouble tickets on the part of the programmers is a major issue. I had six open tickets still out there when I retired in November, some of which were over a year old. There is no excuse for that. - The importance of having the programmers actually ascend from Mt. Olympus and spend time in the field with inspectors utilizing the software that they design cannot be overemphasized.

The best quality is the dependability. I can't think of one day where there was some nationwide issue with accessing your cloud stored info or logging into their website. Yes, there were some user error furstrations, but quickly realiazed the issue was with me and not with the company. I use the office suite as well and can atest to it having the same dependability.

Pros

As an inspector, coonsistency of the platform being used in the field is paramont. If I can't properly document conditions onsite due to a software issue then my workload doubles, reuiqring me to take notes and extra photos so I can recall everything when I get back to my office to write up the actual report. They also have not sent out any updates that end up causing computers to freeze up. Lastly, this platform is used more than any other software amoungst inspectors in my area so it makes it easy to share templates or comments that your inspector buddy has.

Cons

There are a lot of features that are not necessarily organized like Adobe, Office or other software therefore can make it a challenge when faced with an conflicting issue that has to do with the template overall layout, colors, borders or a specific font. The other issue I feel is the user interface when it comes to the cover page designer is very poor and frustrating at times. I've wasted hours messing with the cover page designer and trying to get fonts changed that either revert back or don't translate to the report even though the screen looks perfect. At minimum mach report requires manipulation of the photo to have it align propoerly. It would be nice to use a similar user interface to other design software on the market everyone else knows very well. Plus an override feature so you can manipulate any of the pages text, images, layout, borders, etc. Almost like you open the cover page designer and it is like opening your entier report in Microsoft Word or Adobe.

Mainly because of the amount of inspectors using the platform. When starting out I didn't want to be the odd man out using some proprietary software no one else around me was using. Now tons of people use Spectora and it realloy does make some beautiful HTML reports.

Ease of use for new and experienced home inspectors, excellent report generating features, available support almost 24/7 when needed

Overall the experience was disappointing. I signed up looking for a one-stop-shop for reporting, document handling, emails, payments, and it was buggy in all of those aspects. It's a real pain to switch platforms and Spectora is buggy as well, but much less so. Not happy with Spec, but I'm not throwing my phone in frustration like I had been with HIP.

Pros

The customer service was top notch. Any question I had those folks were there to answer day or night, even on weekends. Can't say the same about Spectora.

Cons

Gosh where to start. It was riddled with bugs. So much so that I had to switch as it was just adding more stress than it was worth. Granted this was about three years ago so I would expect some of them will have been worked through, but it was costing money and patience.

I'm still an active HIP user and hoping to refine and streamline the software to make my job faster. My team of inspectors are very motivated to create streamline ways to complete inspections in the field.

Pros

For the cost the software does all that we need. I like that we can use multiple inspectors to complete larger projects, I like that the software works with both Mac and PC users. I like that the software has added templates for our states insurance report requirements.

Cons

It is not as intuitive as some options so the reports have redundant steps that are required making the reporting more time consuming. Also we are finding that the completion of reports must be done from the desktop so we cannot finish report in the field.

With the exception of the nice looking report, my overall experience using HIP has been frustrating. The tabs are clunky and repetitive making the files extremely large. If I update one comment, it would be super helpful if all instances of that comment updated at the same time. The camera compatibility issue is the most frustrating, though.

Pros

The finished report looks really nice and lists the important findings first instead of reading through the entire document making notes along the way.

Cons

The app camera and my iPhone don’t work well together. Focusing is a big challenge and the photos never look sharp.

Auto save and manually saved items are never lost, customer service excelent, when you call or chat with support team they will fix any problem the first time.

Pros

From the beginning , I would say having the ahit template already in the hip software made the transition easy. Then learning how to build your own template was not hard at all.And I get to work on it on a regular basis. Once I got the\\nStationary and the custom cover page completed.My reports turn out so pretty and informative and mainly simple to read my clients.Love it. Value is awesome.I actually own my template, which is on my desktop.My laptop and for the mobile app and using hip office light is only a dollar a day. The inspectors now are so fast. Because now I can navigate on a small 5 inch tablet on the job site and go in and out of several different sections of the inspection report, standing in one place, catching exterior plumbing roofing issues back-and-forth very quick on the fly.. the reporting software, when it goes out to the client and the agent that's very simple\\nEasy to use program agents and clients love it . One thing recently I've seen is that people will look on their report, and they will view it on their phone, and they just don't get the full story. And in those situations, you almost have to have everything in the summary page, you can't leave it in the body, cause they'll never find it. If you have 400 pictures, you have to scroll through the Report on the phone one pick is just too slow.Nothing we can do about it.It's a phone they need to go to their computer or their laptop.\\nAnd that's true with any inspection template, hip inspection software and hip office is making my day ghost smooth.And now i've added my hip scheduling app to my spectoral website that is huge. Next thing is , get the elf site and google reviews on my website live.., The support staff is always quick to answer the phone 6 days a week. For me, on the East Coast, I can contact support between 8 AM and 10 PM Eastern standard time and actually talk to a real support person that can actually take over my screen.

Cons

Everything's fine. There is nothing that I like. Least, if you don't purchase this software and get the custom page and learn to use the hip office, you will never notice the full\\n Experience of how this program helps you.

Pros

Easy to understand and use. Helpful pre written comments to choose from. Always helpful staff to aid me with any questions!!!

Cons

The initial start up takes 20-30 seconds before I can begin using it. Some features are not necessary for my usage.

50% of the time I’ve called in for support my concerns have been completely dismissed and blame has been placed on network, computer it iOS updates. It’s very dismissive without any probing are attempted troubleshooting. It’s getting harder and harder to get answers so now I avoid calling and just live with the issues. Honestly if I had the opportunity to move or try other services I would but our franchise solely uses hip and the integration with ISN so that’s not possible.

Pros

Final product ( report) is good. There is a steep learning curve to using the app and program like anything new but generally it’s well organized

Cons

The camera. The glitches. The time to update and repair the issues. Three years ago the camera was stable. Now it has many glitches. It has improved recently but there are numerous occasions where I have to take the picture 3/4 times to get a good photo. The app is very glitchy at times. It’s very frustrating when a new version is automatically updated and there are major issues. Capturing the house conditions on site on HIP needs to be seamless 100% of the time.
