I can’t imagine working as a landscape, designer and contractor without it. Pros I love that you can customize the names of the clients and you can add as many photos as you want. The organization is really great and the payments when synced with QuickBooks is amazing. It definitely is not designed for companies that do small jobs or many jobs with one client. Be ready with questions when meeting with your BT rep during your 90 day trail time. Have them show you how things are done so you understand how it works 100%. There were a few features that were promised to us, but then when we asked more specific questions, it turned out that those things were not as promised. However, probably a great tool for a general contractor needing to stay organized and wanting to stay transparent to clients! Pros \- Time tracking with overtime automatically calculated. - Job costing with custom jobs/types. Can generate reports so you can see effectiveness of employees. - Different views for job schedule which can be nice - calendar, agenda, gantt. - Can store unlimited photos, videos, and documents. All are organized in folders and can be shared with the client easily. - Can assign multiple employees to jobs as well as subcontractors and their prices and information. - It will show your current costs, so you can see how much the job is costing the client in real time. - Most everything is customizable and template based. - You are assigned a specific rep from BT that will answer all questions and do live training with you - Very helpful. - There are a fair amount of videos available online from other users who are also using the software. - Effective for companies that deal with large jobs with many moving parts and subcontractors. - Client portal for each job that includes notes, pictures, videos, progress, invoices, etc. This all can be hidden from clients as well and customized to how much information you are wanting to share. Cons \- Calendar feature doesn't allow you to drag and drop jobs or scheduled items and also allow clients to view it. You can either drag and drop or have it be viewable to clients. This is fairly simple to switch back and forth, but it adds extra steps. - App is not user friendly for employees or technicians. There are too many buttons to press. - This software only works well for companies that handle large jobs that are long term with many elements. - To-do's are fairly simple and not well designed. Great that you can add photos, videos, docs to each checklist item. But there's only 1 checkbox per item, no title for the item, and no way to make the to-do list required for employees. - If you don't press "save" after uploading photos/videos or writing notes, they will disappear and you can easily erase notes. No window that reminds you to save work before moving on. - Extremely job-based. You must chose the job and then you can view schedule, clock in, add notes, complete checklist, etc. Not easy to view all jobs at same time. - No line items for invoices. - Client portal is set up to be job-based and not client-based. That means every job will have to have a different username for the client to log into. - Overtime that is automatically calculated doesn't automatically calculate a higher rate on the client's budget. - Learning curve is overall fairly steep. As a fast learner and pretty technically able, it took me a while to figure out how the software worked. Not super intuitive. - Not a very updated or attractive look. It takes a lot to learn and get everybody on-board but it ties all parts together in an organized system that can be shared by all on the team. The Daily reports and budget are the most important part to running the business. I know more of what is going on in each job now than when I would try to visit them daily. Great program I do not know how we managed without it Pros Daily Reports, Budgets, Owners Portal , Lead tracking and use. file management great. All information is in one place & organized. The To-do Ap is great and has a task check off sheet which is great except for one fatal flaw. Cons Messaging comes from Buildertrend and not from our own email or our name in front. Confusing clients, reducing branding opportunities for us, creating junk-mail issues with our clients. - We just do not use it. The Billing side is weird but improving. The payments to subcontractors has improved and can be done on a percentage basis but the billing to clients does not. We use an AIA billing form and use that with the Buildertrend system but the Change orders appear and add to the bill making it awkward and we have to tell clients not to ignore the amount owed on the bottom of the billing. The selections ap is a good idea and is believed in by some in our organization. It is awkward and confusing and I personally think it would work better if it was treated somewhat like a change order. I think if the change orders show up on Billing page so should selections. The To-do Ap is great except that it allows the task to be assigned to multiple people. In a way that is good but if more than one person is responsible than no one is. I think it should have a primary responsible person (this can bye done by assigning tasks but that is cumbersome and has other issues. -The To-do Ap is great and has a task check off sheet which is great except for one fatal flaw. The task check off sheet inside the to-do task is great except that the task can be marked complete by anyone though not all the sub tasks have been marked complete Review Source Julieann L. The mobile app is easy to use for our field crew and the portal is crucial to managing and tracking project costs Pros Buildertrend does a great job with organizing the portal to mirror a construction project from lead to completion. The sales tab has everything you need to effectively manage leads with sections for notes, schedule follow ups and log conversations. Other than what you would expect in the project management tab (schedule, to-dos), what we find most helpful are the daily logs and client updates. Client updates feature is very popular with our clients and the AI feature to pull photos and generate a summary for the client is gold. The cost inbox is another favorite feature of ours. It is one big container for all receipts where they can, one by one, be assigned to the correct job. Cons The reporting section is improving but still needs more robust and reliable reporting. Sometimes Buildertrend’s eagerness for constant improvement makes the portal more convoluted and makes some features redundant. For example, there is the ToDos feature and the Tasks feature. Also the cost inbox and the ability to drag or upload a receipt in the bills section is too much. I also would like to see a more robust, customizable and visually appealing Builder Dashboard as there currently isn’t one, really. Also way too expensive. Pros It has a lot of great features, and support is excellent. Cons The product user experience is absolutely awful. It's a hard product to learn how to use, and there is like 10x more clicking that there needs to be. Very frustrating to use on either desktop or mobile. Cons There is so much functionality I don't use it to it's fullest and the "college" only occurs in one place that is far from our location in Florida. Also it allows to do changes to the estimate after is done. Cons It can be a bit confusing using it for the first time. The tab "Selections" for the homeowner choose options is not very user friendly. Support was great, anytime we had a question CoConstruct staff had answers. I like how each user can have their own ID and photo. Cons The site could be simplified a bit more. There are too many ways to complete a certain task. The notification task weren't as specific as I would have liked. Sometimes I also log deliveries or check the timeline when things are moving fast. Pros It’s great that I don’t have to send a million photos. Everyone can check where things are at. Clients like it too, they don’t always get construction stuff but the pictures help. Cons Took me a while to get the calendar and schedule side working. Pros I liked the idea of having a client portal that i could setup for clients to use. Cons The bulky nature of the system, it looks initially very easy to cross contaminate information through to areas you don't want information stored. They also don't give you any time to learn the system before you have to pay the subscription, i would have been more likely to sign up longer if they gave me time to learn it properly. But the product was lacking for us. Pros It may be a good program for a builder in USA Cons It does not seem to fit the electrical field very well. Also, they assured us that their platform could handle Canadian tax. If you are from Canada, I suggest you ask some hard questions before you onboard. After training for several months, we finally realized that we were not going to be happy with BT. The one and biggest complaint was that they had a very clunky way of handling Canadian tax. It feels like there has been some effort put towards the look and feel but functionally it just feels like everything is a workaround. the financial module is too far behind the functionality of a Quickbooks or Xero so it makes using it for processing really poor. We are looking for alternatives. Pros Project management side of it works well. Support team very responsive and AI chat tool useful. Cons Its not made for UK! You have to add VAT manually to every proposal/quote and invoice! Connection to Quickbooks is very basic and locked to one user! No concept of Corporate clients with lots of contacts. Each Contact is a client. Bill input is really slow in comparison to Quickbooks. No OCR features which is standard nowadays. CRM tool is very basic Reporting is very poor. There are definitely some specific features that we would love to see implemented. But overall, CoConstruct has given us the ability to manage all our projects. Our sales team loves creating estimates using the program, and scheduling is simple and easy to use. Pros My favorite feature from CoConstruct is the messages system. Clients can read and respond directly through their personal email, which is a real bonus for older clients who are technology illiterate. It also allows us to keep all of our conversations centralized and documented. And mid conversation, we can toggle between a team-only chat within a client conversation which is such an amazing feature. Cons They are no longer updating CoConstruct. While they say that they won't sunset the program in the near future, it still feels like it is on a countdown timer before you are forced to switch to BuilderTrend. It was easy to manage the payments item by item. Cons Buildertrend slowed down the payment a little bit for the contractor, as I had to verify small payments that went into my bank. To be honest, this put me at ease, but on their end I realize it was a little slow.
