has saved our organization a lot of money by reducing the subscriptions we had into one program. Setting up the website was easy to do with the SC support team, there were a few add-ons that we didn't anticipate that cost a little bit more, but we still saved hundreds by switching to StarChapter. Our organization is super excited to enhance our online presence with our members and sponsors through StarChapter!

Pros

combines a lot of separate programs we previously used into one easy to access program. It manages email forwarders, displays sponsors logos on our website, and automatically updates based off of when the sponsor has paid through. StarChapter also allows us to setup email templates that are automatically sent to new or lapsed members which eliminates the need for our membership chair to constantly have to remember to check our rosters and compare them month to month.

Cons

The administration side of the website turned out to be a little more challenging than we originally expected. Some of the functions and website design aren't as intuitive as we would have liked and has required additional training for the less tech savvy members on our board.

It cost less for us to remove the four other subscriptions and condense into one. It also eliminated the need for four different logins, which can be hard to collect during board transitions.

My overall experience with has been excellent. The customer service truly stands out. I never have to wait long for a response to a support ticket, and the replies are always detailed and helpful. I honestly wish all of the associations I work with were on StarChapter!

Pros

I really appreciate how user-friendly is. I’ve been using it for five years now, and even when I first started, it never felt overwhelming especially compared to other platforms I’ve worked with. It’s intuitive, easy to navigate, and has made managing our chapter much more efficient.

Cons

I do wish some features offered more customization, but it's not a significant issue certainly not enough to make me consider switching platforms.

### "Some Good ... Some Not So Good"

It does some things well but costs way too much for the service and does not continue developing and fixing issues.

Pros

One stop integration of my web, email, registration and payment needs. I like the ability to send emails to non registered members.

Cons

The Cost and the fact that it keeps going up but not adding new features or fixing known issues. Several features or actions require intricate knowledge of how the site works and are buried under several clicks. The amounts deposited to my bank do not match what star chapter reports to me. The amounts often round up a penny in Star Chapter's favor and it makes me go back and edit the journal entries. This is STUPID!!!! I don't care about the penny .... I do care about your system making me do the extra work. Transaction reports do not give me all the info I need for journal entries. I can see buyer, amounts and what event they are for but can not see the details of what was purchased. For that I have to go to another page and view the order itself. Much extra effort that could very easily simply be in the one report.

We have been able to do more with than with our old system because it is easier to use and has a great Knowledgebase to use.

Pros

The membership maintenance is my favorite part. Keeping track of members is critical to our success, and does a great job at this. I also love the ease of board transition and how it will update the website automatically.

Cons

I would like to be able to click on a number on the dashboard and it drill down into what makes up the number. Especially the Revenue piece.

### "You get exactly what you pay for."

The overall experience has been ambivalent. It works on a base level and meets the needs of pre-2020 associations, but don't expect anything more out of it.

Pros

is inexpensive, and you get what you pay for. The invoicing system is easy to understand.

Cons

is rigid and barely operational when utilizing the corporate member manager, which was one of the main reasons we selected it. You can label/group members with unique tags, but none of them can be exported from the Member list. Instead, you have to pull the entire list of groups/labels and sort through the data, making the function a giant time sink. The email system has two options for deployment: send now or schedule later. However, you can only select the date to schedule. StarChapter will deploy the email at some unknown time, usually at odd hours in the morning. Most of my clients prefer using a third party for emailing for this reason, as well as the anachronistic email building tools. Scheduling recurring emails is unfriendly and just not worth it. Not to mention, the media gallery is broken more often than it is operable. My staff has found a workaround to link images in emails and webpages, but the site just hangs when trying to upload images. When this happens, you're forced to reload the page, which takes you out of whatever you were editing, only to not save any of what you've done. If this occurs while you're editing a webpage, you may also be locked out of the page for 5 minutes from a security feature. Hitting the back button on the browser while utilizing any parts of the dashboard is the kiss of death. I've never seen anything like it until using StarChapter. Utility has never been a priority for StarChapter, which is evidenced by their development of new design templates for websites that were only offered to get clients out of an old pricing structure. Lastly and I wish I could bold and underline this. StarChapter cannot process international payments in its dashboard or on its user-facing side. Any associations with international members, do not use this product unless you want to spend extra time using the virtual terminal or a third-party merchant.

I’d rate Star Chapter a 5 out of 10, primarily due to the absence of a live support desk during business hours. When an issue arises, I don’t need a solution 24 hours later—I need real-time assistance so I can resolve the problem and get on with my day.

Cons

The biggest con is that there is no immediate help available. You have to submit a ticket and wait 24 hours for someone to contact you to tell you they don't understand your ticket or to give more information. Then, the actual issue never gets solved. The actual software is not as user-friendly as expected and it would be helpful to have a helpdesk available to take calls during business hours. Additionally, I should be able to report on any field captured in my data.

We have been live for less then 2 months and I would say it has been great.

Pros

The availability of being able to do your membership and running a website at the same time. Some of the best features that I like is being able to track the income from meetings online even if they are checks or not. Being new to this site is good and working with people. The fast responses from the questions I ask are a big plus to the whole system. Also being able to see how many visitors and page clicks we have has been cool as well.

Cons

I don't have major problem yet, but the biggest Con I have is that it is a pretty vast system and coming from Nothing to this it just takes time to learn it. It isn't a knock against anything but you just need TIME to sit down and train your own people/team and be able to work through everything. Like I said we came from NOTHING to this system and we are all a group of volunteers trying to do this.

Very good overall experience. Problems have been worked out and now receive complements on how easy the site is to navigate. Only downside is that we do get spam or phishing emails from Contact Us form submissions.

Pros

Excellent set up process. Our concerns were always addressed. Support after going live has been responsive and helpful also.

Cons

Occasionally we had trouble understanding instructions given in Knowledge Base. There's been a learning curve in understanding how "Dynamic Content" works.

I've worked with Star Chapter since 2010. They have been responsive, easy to work with and great to problem solve with. I like the ease of use for my staff as well as our volunteers that want to dig in on the admin side. We have about 20 clients on the platform which allows all of our staff to work on something in . We are able to enhance other websites based on new features we see or something a client asks for on one we can implement for others. They have been a great partner.

Pros

For an affordable price, your association can host their website and manage it easily. It has all of the features needed where you don't have to have 1000 platforms and systems to manage and keep track of logins for.

Cons

The biggest complaint I hear is that the meeting registration has one to two too many pages to click through vs. being a one page sign up. That would be a great feature to enhance.

Have had a number of issues, looking at changing to something else that is more user friendly.

Pros

multi user capable. Everything handled in "one place"

Cons

difficult to maintain web pages. have to edit multiple places to update a page. Switched from accepting PayPal to their own credit card processing application. Does not accept any "foreign" card (any card from outside the US, this mean even Canada. We have a number of Canadian based members who can't be processed. Fees are high than PayPal. Can not accept (swipe or chip) cards onsite, have to manually key them in.

We like the website front and back end management. We like the calendaring. We like event management, although it can be improved. The webstore is generally good, but would be much better with financial integration and a more standard order to ship process flow and functionality; i.e., bundling. E-mail communications are good; however, e-mail address flagging and rectifying is AWFUL, and we strongly disagree with 's interpretation of the regulations.

Pros

offers good functionality and management for an affordable price. It puts our website and association management into the cloud, where it belongs, and doesn't require a high degree of tech savvy to manage the site or our day-to-day activity.

Cons

The lack of a financial interface is PAINFUL, and it has resulted in higher than usual external accounting expense to make sense of what we do.

The combination of feature functionality and price The lack of integration with Quickbooks Online almost scuttled the deal. As we flirt with 900 members, that is a lot of extra work. SMDPA is an all-volunteer managed non-profit.

Overall has been a tremendous help with our association management. It has made my job so much easier. The system is easy to manage and maintain. Our members are happy with being able to make payments easier.

Pros

set up our website with our assistance, gave us minimal training, and responds quickly to any questions I might have. They provide help to my questions about adding to, deleting, and changing the website. StarChapter is my first experience with managing a website and has been a very easy to learn and maintain.

Cons

There are certain parts of our paperwork processes that have been a bit difficult to get used to on a website. But the allows you to create support tickets to get assistance on adding or changing information. If the website does not allow certain additions, then the support area sends our suggestions to their management.

I have been using it for 8 months now. The learning curve was a little steep even though I have a lot of background in content management systems. It does take support 2-3 days to reply to a non-urgent request but they have always been very helpful once they respond or we have a zoom meeting.

Pros

Support is very helpful; the product meets our needs and the website looks good.

Cons

The back end is logical but not intuitive. Once you know where something is or how to use it, it works great but those things aren't always intuitive.

As I said, we are a volunteer driven educational organization. assists our organization with managing activities and members, which are our core competencies.

Pros

is easy to implement and use. Their support team is excellent and very responsive. Most of the applications are easy use.

Cons

We are a volunteer driven educational organization. We teach classes in person and virtual. Students are able to retain continuing education points for attending our events. lightly touches on, but does not manage well, our member's tracking of educational points.

The platform has good features and customizability.

Cons

If you aren't familiar with working with websites, then you'll have trouble with email formatting and webpage management. The help guides are somewhat useful and so is customer support, but it's not intuitive. I wish there were more integrations so that we could connect Google calendar or Zoom.

The product is mostly intuitive, but the webpage design and management features could be improved and simplified. The biggest thing that I think can improve upon is the customer/technical service access. Talking to a real person the day of the issue is paramount to modern organizations, and I would suggest investing in the human capital to accomplish better customer or technical support.

There is a learning curve associated with the program which I believe could be smoother for us old timers that have jumped from chalkboards to computers

Pros

Our organization was functioning. All of our records ended up on spreadsheets either here or there or somewhere else. I decided that we needed everything under one program. Under our old system there was a lot of incorrect and in accurate information. Since converting to start chapter we have separated the wheat from the chaff. We’re on track now but still experiencing a few bumps in the road. But I know that they will be resolved.
