### "Square Point Of Sale for my small business"

Overall, I would recommend Square for any business. Its ease of use is next level, and my customers love it!

Pros

I run a remodeling business and have used Square for all my payment processing. It is a very usefull tool! The payments process instantly 90% of the time. Even when it's a $5,000-$10,000 payment! The processing fees are a little higher than others, but me nor my customers mind at all. Its also encrypted and 100% safe for both parties.

Cons

The only issue that I have is the delivery option is unremovable. When you accept a payment, you have to go into the system and select delivered.

Cons

I didn't like the integration and confusion of tipping in regards to multi-card payments and other technical formalities of the service.

### "My Square nightmare"

My Square nightmare: I have been using Square for several years. I liked the simplicity of using it, although Square charges the same fee for debit cards as for credit cards and is a point higher if you have to manually process the charge. I have been able to accept that. But after what happened to me last week, I have to speak out. Last week I processed a charge. The correct amount of the charge was $422.57, but the amount that was processed was $42,257.33 ($422.57 plus two 3s). I can’t say with certainty that I didn’t somehow hit the 3 key a couple times by accident, but I don’t think I did and I know I didn’t intend to. When I saw the amount that was actually charged I IMMEDIATELY REVERSED THE CHARGE by issuing a refund for a “mistaken charge.” (The reversal was processed 4 minutes after the charge.) Then I went back and processed the correct amount. The next morning I got an email from Square informing me that it was taking $687.41 from my biz checking account in order to cover the processing fees from the refunded charge (my Square account had a balance that Square also took, a total of $1,098.69). At first I assumed it was just part of the process and it would be refunded to my account. When it didn’t happen I contacted customer service. It took a while to reach customer service and when I did I went through 6 levels of online CSRs rejecting my request that the charge be reversed. I was told that the processing charge was not refundable and there was nothing they could do about it. I appealed until I couldn’t appeal any more (which is why I went through 6 levels). Without exception everyone was sympathetic to my situation, without exception no one did anything to make it right. All that is left to me now is to share my horror story as far and wide as possible to warn other small businesses about this horrible, unethical business practice. I’m sure I’m not the only one this has happened to; don’t let it happen to you.

Pros

I have been using Square for several years. I liked the simplicity of using it, although Square charges the same fee for debit cards as for credit cards and is a point higher if you have to manually process the charge.

Cons

They will not refund processing fees for mistaken charges (see below). My efforts to get a reversal of the fees assessed fell on deaf ears.

Easy to use onsite and as well as in the office for reconciling. Also quick payment deposits. Makes collection of payment simple.

Pros

Ease of use. We have multiple terminals is the payments are easily identified and reporting is clear. Deposit are next day.

Cons

A little more expensive than other POS but worth the additional amount. Updates can take a long time on the terminal.

I've used this POS for over five years, and honestly, it's great. It offers a debit card tied to the account, that allows me to have instant access to funds, and if I use the transfer option, it takes one day to reach my bank account, or instant for another fee. They also offer a line of credit based on amounts processed, which is an added advantage.

Pros

It's my go to Point of Sale system for my mobile and web. I am able to use this on the go, and access it when I need to, no matter where I am. The debit card attached to the account means instant access to funds when needed.

Cons

The swipe fees are in line with other payment providers, but I wished there were different levels based on total sales. Like the more you uesd it, the lower the fees. The storefront isn't as dynamic or customizable as I'd like for it to be.

As I mentioned I liked it a lot, it was easy to learn and easier to use. Because we're a low-use donation site, it didn't get too much action

Pros

processing payments was easy to learn and use. However, I didn't keep it llong because I went to their sister firm, Stripe

Cons

nothing about it at all other than the fact it took some time to reach my home and put it into use. That's all.

Customers are familiar with using this and allows for easy tipping and receipts. Many customers don’t want receipts or want emailed receipts.

Pros

Square has a simple backend interface. There's also unlimited help online that's easy to find.

Cons

Limitation for online sales. Would like to see inventory management for food.

This point of sale has no monthly fees, it only charges when the point of sale is used. I like that.

I don't like that they charge a different rate if I insert the card details directly

Overall I really can not complain as it provides a simple to use, valuable tool for both small and larger businesses alike

Pros

As a small business owner Square is a fabulous tool to be able to take credit card payments, create invoices, and so much more. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it.

Cons

Sometimes, especially when using the desktop (I'm primarily on the app on my phone) it's harder to find things as it doesn't seem to be set up quite the same as the app.

This has allowed our PTO to quickly collect online and POS payments at events and after a slight learning curve, it is relatively easy to maintain.

Pros

Adding and modifying items for sale is very intuitive and easy to learn. Sale transaction tracking and report exports are easy to navigate. The template for sending email campaigns is helpful.

Cons

Setting item categories and subcategories can be circuitous. Differentiating hidden items vs archived items vs visible and invisible items is ambiguous.

It is easy for businesses to setup their account and terminals to collect payments from customers. Additionally, Square provides numerous kinds of terminals to suit your business needs. So if you are a restaurant or a kind of business where employees walk around to serve customers, you can use their mobile handheld terminals. Or if you are taking payments at a desk, you can use Square Register.

Cons

The terminals are a bit pricey for businesses to buy. Additionally, the service fees for credit card transactions could be lowered.

I've used Square POS for my businesses for 8 years in 8 locations. It works for our business model because we are one company with 8 subsidiaries, and it's nice to just be able to log in once and toggle between the sites.

Pros

Square is super reliable. Out of all of the SAAS services my company uses, Square is the one that never goes down, and is always accurate. Their interface is straightforward and, for the most part, intuitive.

Cons

I don't like that for some larger reports it emails you to download vs. just taking 30 seconds to run and then downloading automatically. It's a small thing, but it's annoying that I have to just wait for it to arrive.

I really like using Square POS. I think it is a pretty easy system to navigate, with the most ease in the actual sales portion.

Pros

Square is easy to use for selling merchandise at our large events. We are able to process payments even while offline. We can use pretty much any payment form with them. It also links with our website to make merch sales all-inclusive of both accounts for tracking and inventory purposes.

Cons

I think the back end can be a little challenging at times. When you are making an item with different sizes, it can be confusing at first with all of the different options.

I like that I can customize my items and organize them by category on the main screen. I also like that it shows my inventory amounts and alerts me when we are low. I can do EVERYTHING on the home screen!

Cons

I was not happy with the process of adding inventory. I found it a little complicated. However, the how to instructions are super helpful!

Overall, Square was an efficient and simple POS. Even when we switched our main POS to a different software, we continued to use Square for our food and beverage area. Unfortunately, Square just didn't have enough features and integrations to sustain our main POS.

The POS was very basic and didn't allow us to have as many options and integrations as we needed.

Pros

They offer a free version of product to use from my phone. I have a mobile ice cream truck so to use this at any location is ideal for my business. customer support has been great when needed. this also allows emails to be sent for billing and invoices to help with the payment process

Cons

Have not found anything at this time to dislike about the product. Having the option to use the attachment to my phone or to have a customer tap my phone has worked out well. Learning how to use it to weed out the bugs and issues has not been difficult to navigate through

Pros

As a single mother of 5 I live a hectic and stressful life. With Square point of sale I can focus more on my family since I know I have a software that practically runs my business for me.

I have nothing negative to say except why wasn’t this software around a lot sooner.
