Overall experience is a smoother process of spec-writing. Also appreciate that you can import similar specs from other projects (even if not originally created in SpecLink) and adjust accordingly.

Pros

Much improved spec-writing program compared to the old system. Provides a nice template for spec-writing, even offering suggestions, and makes it much less daunting and dry to go through. Also appreciate you can create projects within the program that encompass different specs, so you can keep things organized.

Cons

Headers and footers can be a challenge to edit and/or get editted to how you need them. Many of times our Clients have a specific company standard for how they want headers/footers shown (including specific colors for any revisions made) and this isn't as intuitive or smooth as I would like, but it is not a deal breaker given the many other capabilites of SpecLink elsewhere.

Speclink has worked well for us. It needs to be improved so that we can easily update our company Standard Master Spec and to be able to update all other project specs when global changes are made.

Pros

Ease of use; cloud based; formatting; codes and standards; multiple users at the same time; consistency of output; etc.

Cons

Missing search and replace; inability to import sections into multiple projects; printing of individual sections with their table of contents; unable to print the entire spec along with the table of contents so that pdf can be easily used; Tables can be very difficult to insert and utilize; etc

Incentivized review: software users are invited to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive for their time and effort. All incentivized reviews are subject to our verification process prior to publication.

Overall it is a really great product with some excellent features. I have been writing specifications for just three years and have really come to appreciate your product and all of the features it offers.

Pros

It's a great baseline to start with for a variety of projects and products. I like the fact that all of the testing and standards are updated regularly, saving me hours of research time.

Cons

I find it sometimes difficult to customize spec sections to our needs. It would also be helpful to have more notes for each section, describing the real-world applications of different product selections. The specification strategies on some sections are cumbersome and difficult to navigate, i.e. they really don't help much.

Overall, implementing SpecLink has been a timesaver. It is easy to use, powerful, and works better than its competition. Their customer service is very good, and they are very helpful with onboarding. They listen to their users, and they are actively updating and improving the platform.

Pros

It is easy to get up and running on SpecLink. The interface is fast, and editing is efficient. Content is updated regularly, and the updates can easily be applied to projects in process. It is not hard to edit their masters to create your own master. Thier content is not the same as the MasterSpec licensed from AIA, and it is less verbose. In most cases I have found that it covers the same content more efficiently.

Cons

It would be nice to have the option to license the AIA MasterSpec content and use the RIB interface, but it's not practical at this time. Importing outside master sections into SpecLink is challenging. Each section needs to be tagged and labeled just so, and it's necessary to carefully check the imported section to make sure that choices and content are showing up as intended. They are working on making the process better, but it is still challenging. Importing consultant sections for printing a project manual is also challenging, so I use a different product to assemble project manuals. As a cloud-based system, there is little capability to edit specs when offline. There is a lot of as-yet-untapped potential in this product to better leverage the tagging and crosslinking capabilities. For instance, specifying sustainability requirements, coordinating sections that are cross-referenced, and marking sections with a percentage of completion. I hope to see them develop these capabilities soon.

Very good, user friendly, very detail with what needed to be covered in the spec's, matches with the floor plan, schedules and details from the design drawings.

Pros

Easy and very user friendly, it covers all main items, so the contractor will get a least chance to raise change orders giving the lack of information's from the specs.

Cons

Few items are repetitive from different spec's, for example, the PIPING SPECIALTIES in 210500 repeats in 211300, actually the one in 211300 is correct, so we can take out the one in 210500.

Overall, I would say an 8 out of 10. Sometimes the Cloud based platform hangs or the browser has an error. This can be annoying at times, but is a small issue in the larger scope of writing specifications

Pros

The cloud based platform is much faster than the previous iteration that was server based. This makes writing specifications a much faster experience and saves us a lot of time.

Cons

I can't do a mass spec update. I need to go into each individual spec section and do updates. This can be tedious and frustrating.

When SpecLink became cloud-based, it was a game changer. SpecLink Clould enables me to work remotely as efficiently as when I'm in the office. Being able to modify office master content while retaining access to the SpecLink master text is so helpful while incorporating changes in scope on my projects.

Pros

I like that SpecLink allows users to edit by activating only the content they want, but is flexible enough to enable users to add their own content.

Cons

I wish more consultants were using it so users could take full advantage of the many collaboration features.

Much better than other options. Header/footer is much better than other options and is why we changed. The templates are nice to have available.

Pros

Global Terms, number of sections available, printing to pdf with bookmarks. Ability to have templates

Cons

Cloud version is slow, I make revisions and they don't stick, the need to update for each section is a HUGE hassle! (Desktop had the option of updating all sections at once, why was this lost?) Formatting removed between Desktop and Cloud versions. This leads to more work for door hardware schedules and drawing index. Cloud version has been a step backward!

I am satisfied with the software. I wish there were training videos for identifying what should be linked and how when writing new template specifications. Also, a training video that explains where all the specification details and assemblies originate and how they are connected to the product.

Pros

I am delighted with the concept of exclusion and inclusion in specification writing. It makes the process very adaptable to other similar projects.

Cons

When I use typical symbols such as "&," the software is confused and substitutes words that don't make sense.

Overall I am very pleased with the software, as it is a significant improvement over typical MasterSpec Word specifications.

Pros

The built-in automatic updating, choice fields, intelligent linking and overall ease of use of the interface are the main reasons we made the switch. Also, customer service and tech support is swift and responsive.

Cons

Sometimes the linking is faulty, especially for the Table of Contents. Also, we have provided a significant number of proposed enhancements, of which only a minor fraction have been implemented. Track changes need to be improved with more options. Network slowdown or browser memory limitations sometimes reduce performance. The RIB library of available sections needs to be increased to rival the MasterSpec library as there are still many scope items that do not exist in the RIB library.
