## FAQs about Revit

Overview

### What problems does Revit solve?

Revit solves fragmented building design workflows by unifying 2D drawings, 3D models, schedules, quantities, and renderings in one BIM environment. It helps architects, structural engineers, MEP teams, contractors, and estimators reduce coordination clashes, avoid manual drawing updates, speed pricing and material tracking, and communicate designs clearly to clients.

Answer based on 232 reviews

Overview

### Which roles and teams benefit most from Revit?

Revit is most used by architects, architectural designers, and BIM teams that need to build coordinated 3D models, produce documentation, and manage design changes efficiently. Civil, structural, and mechanical engineers use it for multidisciplinary collaboration, while project managers, firm leaders, and students support project oversight, standards, training, and delivery planning.

Answer based on 482 reviews

Overview

### What company size and industries is Revit built for?

Revit is built for AEC teams, especially small businesses at 68%, with Architecture & Planning the top industry at 33%.

Revit is the backbone of the architecture industry, and is the main resource for bringing architectural visions into constructable reality. I am able to effectively collaborate with both coworkers and consultants very efficiently.

Pros

You can essentially create 3D models and 2D drafting simultaneously. If you get good with creating templates, you can almost automate the drafting process while modelling the building. The interface is subdivided very well, which makes navigation very straightforward as well.

Cons

When it fatally crashes while working on a project. Thankfully, they’ve implemented a recovery option, so work doesn’t get lost the way it once did.

Pros

I like how everything is integrated together between the different disciplines when drafting. Any changes made to the mechanical systems (ie, location) will reflect also on the electrical and architectural plans.

Cons

I wish they would have more mechanical HVAC selections to choose from when doing a load calculation of the building. That way, we would not have to use another third party software to do load calculations and just do everything in Revit.

For specific projects the software has worked and BIM is a great tool. If the project is not complexed with a lot of other disciplines it may not be worth using.

Pros

The software is able to detect areas of conflict when developing the model. This will aid in eliminating expense change orders during construction.

Cons

Differently the upfront costs to implement the software into the design process. New powerful computers are a must along with competent staff.

Very good. It's a staple of my drafting. It can be frustrating but there's good communities that have workarounds

Pros

It's compatibility with all the disciplines, mechanical, architectural, civil, landscaping etc. also the functionality to help with designs

Cons

The model has to be built perfectly to allow all the designs to run smoothly. When using it to design you really need a lot of experience

It is by far the smartest software that an Architecture student can use. Especially when you are a beginner, the sheer knowledge that it gives for visualization is so clear. The pros easily outweigh the cons.

Pros

It is extremely dynamic and smart. It is the combination of AutoCAD and Sketchup in one. We can visualize the 3D while doing 2D. It's that smart and easy to work with. Proper value for Money.

Cons

For whatever reason, I disliked Revit while doing interior design. It felt too complicated while doing interior while doing exterior it is completely opposite.

It is a powerful industry standard that is accepted as a True BIM Tool and not just a drafting program. It has allowed me to enable coordination, automate documentation and integrate data the way other tools cannot.

Pros

I enjoy it's function ability of how every aspect works as one model. Plans, Sections and Schedules all work together and change together as modifications are made. Visualization and documentation also work in the same way.

Cons

Very steep learning curve along with it's Performance and Stability issues can make it difficult to operate by someone that is not sufficiently trained and has experience.
