May 24, 2022 5.0 We are extremely pleased with Weebly. After using Wordpress for many years previously and dealing with the broken code (quite often) it is definitely a blessing to be able to not have to worry about our site having a meltdown with a forced update. Pros It's a very intuitive product. But the ease of setup and the fact that you don't have to manage the site from a server standpoint is great. We love how easy it is to work with and how professional and elegant a website it has been for us. We like to keep our website up-to-date and current (sometimes by season) and Weebly allows us to do that without a huge outlay of cost. Cons There is really no way to recover deleted content. You can recover a page if it has been deleted but if text or images have been deleted you can not undo that. It hasn't been a huge issue for us at our church but for some other churches that we've assisted in building for them they have had issues with an editor "accidentally" deleting all of the content from a page and not being able to recover it. I literally built Weebly websites when I was about 10 years old, before I knew a lick of HTML. I've since used it to build several unused sites and a couple of active ones. I have one up now that's for a liquor store my parents own, and since they didn't need anything fancy they were able to save hundreds if not thousands on making their website by simply having me do it easily on Weebly. Cons I would recommend sticking with Weebly as your webhosting service if you're going to build the site here because they really don't make it easy to integrate with a separate web hosting service. I also question the dynamic capabilities of Weebly's site builder without usage of manual JS code. I haven't looked much into the paid plug-ins, though, so if that's what people are using then it may be possible. The SSL certification for the site is no longer recognized by my web host and all the fixes put forth by Weebly do not work. This has forced me to build my site on a different platform. As previously stated, there are a couple of glitchy features that don't work properly, but there is plenty of good to overrule those problematic areas. Pros As an experienced web developer, I was concerned that Weebly would be too generic for our needs and wouldn't allow us to build more detailed web pages in the cases where we would need them. But they proved me wrong. Weebly makes building and maintaining your site easy to do when it comes to the ho-hum aspects of web development, and then it lets you ramp things up when you need to with it's Embed Code feature. Overall, we are extremely pleased with Weebly. There are a few things that are glitchy or don't work reliably, but those items are minor compared to the overall skillset this software has. Cons The ability to create links to other web sites is glitchy. It doesn't work reliably and may take 2-3 tries before I can get it to work properly. The other feature that doesn't work is their Search component. It's supposed to allow users of our site to be able to search our entire side for keywords, but currently, this feature does not work. I've contacted customer support about it and they did not really give me a satisfactory response. They have no idea when or if that Search element will be fixed. Review Source Gilmer S. I was then able to easily scale by upgrading my site with more pages, advanced eCommerce features, and a custom domain by upgrading to a paid plan. The support and documentation were also excellent in resolving any issues or concerns. Sometimes up to a week. Replies are usually canned messages or written as if the CSR doesn't really care about helping you or not. Customization to our site theme from one of their on-site-listed 3rd party customizers made our checkout page un-usable after Weebly did some updates. I had to contact Weebly support twice (over more than a week's time) before they told me they couldn't help us due to our custom theme (which I don't think carries over into the check out pages). The customizer ended up fixing it for us. The only reason we haven't gone to another e-commerce hosting company is we don't have the time to invest in setting up all of our products again in another platform. When we do have time, we'll be moving on to a better platform. Pros No much. It seemed to be what we needed after ditching a prior hosting company/shopping cart. The price was in-line or maybe a bit lower than some competitors. Cons After importing our item list we began to see how cumbersome using the back-end is. There's a huge learning curve. To this day, years after signing up, it's still difficult to navigate around. Lots of standard features are lacking, and they don't seem to be in a hurry to implement anything that their client base requests. Every time there is an update, it only gets better. I have used it for my insurance business, my wedding planning business, some blogging, and I plan on opening an ecommerce site soon. It all pairs with the billing software I use now, Square, which is just bonus points. Pros When I first started using Weebly I had little to no web design knowledge and yet I was able to design a professional looking site from the ground up and publish it that first day...and this was with the free version! It is so easy to understand, there are plenty of templates and those templates are super customizable (again, with no design or coding experience), and there are just so many features and options. I love that it connects to Square also. Cons I am honestly trying to think of cons but for me, I don't have any. I suppose if you were more of designer or had a larger need than I do there might be some issues, but for me, it ticks all the boxes.
