" October 21, 2021 4.0 After the latest version of Zorin OS 16 available just months ago and reading several reviews and positive opinions, I decided to test it. Previously I tested the release 2.0 of this distribution and wrote a review back in 2009, published on the Brazilian site Viva o Linux (https://www.vivaolinux.com.br/artigo/Zorin-OS-interessante-distro-lancada-no-ano-novo-primeiras-impressoes/ ). Among the strong points listed recently about this distribution and perhaps one of the more important points is the possibility of reviving old and outdated hardware, being it desktops or notebooks that no longer get support for their original OS neither can get updated to the newer releases due to its absolute physical limitations in terms of hardware. Considering it, my choice was to use the Core version instead of the Zorin OS 16 Pro more complete and therefore supposed to be heavier for limited hardware capability. It is running well and showing a decent performance on an Intelbras Model i680 Notebook purchased in 2010 equipped with H-34 Motherboard, sporting Intel Core i5 – First-generation – M340 processor @2.27GHz – 64bit – with 4Gb DDR3 @1.067 MHz RAM. At this very same Notebook, I have installed and running also with a decent performance version 19.3 of Linux Mint (32 bits). Knowing the characteristics and design criteria of the Zorin distribution, well covered and described in several reputable publications, I wanted to confirm reviving old hardware. Pros Besides being able to run on unquestionably old and outdated hardware with reasonable performance, the Core version includes a complete set of applications enabling the user to perform the majority if not all the daily business and personal tasks. The list includes the LibreOffice complete suite (write, calc, draw, impress, etc), accessories, system configuration tools, internet browsers, games, multimedia, plus a broad list of utilities, and a wide variety of additional software to be easily installed just about after a couple of clicks. Aiming to make an easy migration from the windows environment, WINE is installed by default and allows to run a great number of windows (.exe/.com type) files and games. If not possible to run with the help of WINE, there are additional options available from the list of applications to be installed. Menus and GUI (Graphical User Interface) are clean and easy to understand and locate the applications needed enabling an easy process of transition from windows. Zorin OS is indeed among the best and easiest to use Linux distributions. Even its simplest version CORE which is free of charge is very complete. According to the site, the price for the complete version (Zorin OS 16 Pro) is just $39 for an even more complete OS and additional software. Another great advantage is that anti-virus and anti-malware applications if users may desire to run, are also available free. Cons With the above list o Pros, I could not honestly find any contrary items to list, other than the usual support based on forums and user associations which is perfectly easy to understand considering that the OS is available free of cost. Pros Como muchas otras distribuciones actuales de Linux, está basada en Ubuntu, lo que ya de por si trae muchas ventajas como la compatibilidad con la mayoría del hardware actual, seguridad, estabilidad, ritmo de actualizaciones, etc.Su punto fuerte por encima de otras distribuciones... tiene una apariencia muy similar a Windows, lo que facilita la transición de un OS a otro.
