### "Strongly Recommend Instinct"

April 3, 2023

5.0

We were Beta testers for the Treatment Plan, and then jumped onto the Electronic Medical Record when it came out. The Instinct team feels like part of our hospital, and truly has been our partner. Instinct is responsive to suggestions for improvement and works directly with team members on the floor in real time through the 24/7 chat feature, which is very helpful when running a 24 hour emergency facility!

Pros

At our veterinary emergency facility, having our team use Instinct both for treatment plan and for electronic medical records has helped maintain our clear and thorough medical records, and those records are very easy for our referring veterinarians to read. The financial impact was immediately felt as missed charges virtually disappeared as the treatments automatically log into the invoice when completed. The 24/7 chat feature allows team members to get help or make suggestions in real time, and the response is virtually immediate. Our team would not give up the efficiencies of Instinct now without a fight, despite initial trepidation at switching from what they previously had used.

Cons

The inventory management is lacking, but they are working on a fix for that...

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

The Instinct features such as integration with Plumb's and the focus on the needs of emergency and specialty hospitals, plus the ease of use and attractive displays sold us on Instinct. Doctors who had used other cloud-based programs were not fans of those systems as being hard to learn and use.

### "I have been really enjoying this program for our emergency services"

April 27, 2024

5.0

I have really enjoyed that this program is colorful and not just black and white. Extremely user friendly. And the staff have been extremely helpful with the learning curve. The program has little touches like during vet week they made a very adorable banner, just adds that extra touch that many other software programs don't have.

Pros

I thoroughly enjoy there is someone to help you 24/7, especially being in an emergency practice where sometimes we have questions or concerns at 3 or 4am that need to be answered. They are extremely friendly and you can send GIFs to one another. In a field where days can become long and exhausting, Instinct even gives you cute little quotes or jokes when you log on. It's the little things that will put a smile on your face

Cons

I am hoping Instinct can make the Rx prescription labels separated by visits so that no labels are filled by accident. For a visual person it would be nice if there was a bold line in-between or highlight the current visits prescriptions that have been made, especially when we have our chronic patients here.

### "Wonderful & easy to use system!"

October 26, 2023

4.0

It has always been very easy to use, the many features & options available have been amazing as well. I also have highly appreciated all of the updates I have seen since I started using this in 2019/2020

Pros

I like how user friendly it is & how it is easy to go back on what has been done on a patient & also see what is coming up in the future. I also enjoy how easy it is to add one-off's and view the history of a single item (i.e. what a pet has been eating in the vitals section of instinct). I also like all the different tabs/sections available on instinct for viewing exactly what you would like to see.

Cons

I would like there to be an easier way to view the last comment left on the previous treatment, this is super helpful & saves time which is much needed in the ER/ICU. I also am not sure if there is an "instinct training video" out there but I know that our hospital would benefit from one as I learn new things on here all the time. Otherwise I love Instinct

Hi Christa, Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct and for your positive feedback! For an easy way to view the last comment left on a treatment, you can use the 3 dot menu next to that treatment on the Tx Sheet and click “Order History”. This will show you all completed treatments for that order and any notes made. Here’s an example of how this would look if you selected the 3 dot menu next to Progress Notes and then “Order History”: https://capture.dropbox.com/abCSKM1Zv1Rcl7Md In terms of further training videos - these can be found on our Careville website! We also offer Instinct Office hours every Monday at 2pm EST and Wednesdays at 11am EST. This is an open forum for users to ask questions or dive deeper into topics of their choice. https://careville.instinct.vet/ Let me know if you have further questions or feel free to reach out to us on support chat (chat bubble icon in the Instinct bottom left navy sidebar) and we are happy to help. ### "Wonderful"

March 23, 2023

5.0

Instinct is a very straight-forward platform that makes it easy for everyone!

Pros

We use Instinct daily at my practice, and the ease of function is fantastic. Everything is very straight forward, and documents are easily uploaded.

Cons

I do not enjoy that a patient has to be checked in to print name labels or fill medications for them.

Hi Kendall, Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct Science and for your positive feedback. With regards to your concerns about filling prescriptions and printing labels, this should be resolved with our standalone invoicing! A new invoice can be started on the invoice tab and a prescription can be filled without checking a patient into the hospital. Patient labels can be printed by selecting the “Print Patient Label” button at the bottom of the Chart screen. https://capture.dropbox.com/pIFG0KgBfX7nUWCl If you need further help with this, please reach out to us via support chat (chat bubble in the bottom left navy sidebar) or via e-mail (support@instinct.vet). ### "Overall great, has a few kinks to work out. "

April 29, 2024

5.0

Pros

I enjoy that I can find everything that I need with ease the majority of the time. There are very clear ways to do tasks vs having multiple ways to do them. Keeping up with communication is easy and concise so long as everything is documented appropriately.

Cons

There are some features that could be a bit better. For example, I think that the texting/ client chat feature is great, but when a client responds we have no way of knowing since it does not notify you. 2nd is a new change, I do not like that you cannot "pin" or "upload" a document to stay that the TOP of the chart of the reminded of the pet's record. Things such as client/patient registration sheets are vital to the clinic, and we now have to go hunting for them in the record. I have already put in a feature/ticket request to have this done.

### "Instinct is 10/10"

January 13, 2023

5.0

Pros

Instinct is the easiest veterinary software I have ever used. I enjoy making my own patient board.

Cons

The only feature I do not like about instinct is being unable to put a treatment in progress. I have used a very similar software that will allow you to put a treatment in progress so that another nurse knows that you have prepared to start this treatment.

Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct and for your positive feedback! This would be a wonderful feature request that we can bring back to our team! You can also use the “assign to me” function. https://capture.dropbox.com/52qpGCSomHlvoobr This assigns the patient to you and other nurses can see that you are actively working on that patient. It doesn’t assign a specific treatment or make it show up as in progress, but it does make it known that the patient is currently being worked on. Best, DJ

I like it, wish students would enter treatments after they perform them

Pros

Love the ease of entering Instict data, really like the RER, helps student better understand how much the should offer a pt to eat

Cons

when a pt is discharged, I can no longer add treatments I just completed and have to add an adendum to an earlier treatment to record treatments

### "Highly recommend"

January 26, 2022

5.0

We can be much more detail oriented. Less treatments get missed. More charges are captured. Very user friendly if you are taught properly and use the program consistently.

Pros

I love that you can customize this to each hospital. I appreciate the customer service and how friendly they always are. You can create new products or warnings that help staff with more information and less mistakes to be made. We currently use this software with cornerstone, but I did get to use the demo for the full program and its amazing. I'm hoping we get to have it at our hospital soon.

Cons

I would like to see admin staff be able to adjust the vitals instead of just the instinct staff. We have IV fluid bags linked to our IVF rate line and every time we input a new rate through the vitals section, it will input that bag of fluids. It didnt do this when we first got the program but it started like 3 months later. I would like a way to assign technicians to the patient for the day vs just for that moment. I know we can assign ourselves to the patient, but if we could color code them so 1 of the 2 ICU nurses could tag that patient as theirs for the day and then assign themselves when they're working on them like we already do. Hope this made sense.

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

I wasn't part of this process

Hi Chrystina, Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct and for your positive feedback! We would love to hear more about your current issues with the vitals section and charges. In terms of the patient care team, you can add the name of the nurse in charge of the patient within the patient info bar, but putting this information under the signalment & reason for visit and also listing them in the Care Team. It is also a good idea to have the nurse in charge of a patient pin the patient to their My Board to filter out other patients and only see those they are responsible for. Feel free to reach out to me at caroline@instinct.vet or via support chat (chat bubble icon in the bottom left navy sidebar) so we can help figure out your current concerns. Best, Caroline

### "Love this for treatments"

October 26, 2023

5.0

It has been very positive overall. We have caught charges we may have missed, prevented patients form being double dosed on meds and improved patient care since utilizing Instinct.

Pros

I like being able to see what treatments are coming due, who is assigned to the patient to complete those treatments and when they have been completed. I like the safety features for drug dosages and the abiltiy to customize treatment plans. I also love the alerts! From disease warnings to patients attitude - everyone is easily informed at a glance. We also catch charges that we may have missed before.

Cons

There are some issues with double charging with Cornerstone.

### "Overall, very organized and efficient"

April 26, 2024

5.0

Pros

Instinct offers an organized grid layout for treatment sheets allowing for easy viewing and easy to monitor values for hospitalized patients. My hospital does not use all functions of Instinct but the portions that we do use function very well with minimal errors.

Cons

When a patient is accidentally checked out, once they are checked back in, a separate Instinct sheet is opened for them. Even though you can re-open the original sheet, it creates another sheet which can generate confusion. So far that has been the only minor drawback that I have experienced.

### "The future is now!"

January 19, 2023

5.0

I love this program. After writing out and highlighting paper treatment sheets for years, this has been a breath of fresh air.

Pros

I love the ability to generate and edit treatment sheets quickly. It makes things so much easier than simply rewriting an entire treatment sheet depending on the patient's needs. Generating templates for diseases is also really nice to ensure nothing is missed. Integrated Plumb's has been wonderful as well.

Cons

The software's integration with our EMR (Ezyvet) has not been the smoothest which is not necessarily a fault on Instinct specifically but something of note. Some of the drop down menu options are a bit sparse and need additional notes which can lead to less information left in the record. It's also difficult for my nursing staff to get all meds ready for a given treatment time since opening multiple treatment sheets at once isn't a possibility. With paper records, they had that ability to spread all sheets out on a table, prep the patients treatments, then systemically get them all set up which was a bit faster for them.

### "We love this EMR and treatment sheet software!"

April 29, 2024

5.0

We were the 2nd or 3rd hospital to use Instinct for patient flow sheets when they first came out. We were ver happy to switch t their EMR software

Pros

It was initially developed by a veterinarian, so it meets all our needs.

Cons

I wish that the patient ID numbers were more logical (ie numerical order) but they seem somewhat random. Also, some of the charge capture features seem challenging to our assistants who manage charges (the way charges are grouped, I am guessing it is in the order that things are completed) they wish that it was by category. Unable to make canned estimates (I have been told, this isn't something I personally do).

### "The best vet software i've ever used"

Pros

The easy to follow interface, where you can see hourly what is overdue or what's next to be done and plan. The easy way that it's possible to see all patients at once and prioritize who needs most attention. The automatic billing puts Instinct above any other software I've ever used.

### "A Game-Changer for Veterinary Practices!"

October 2, 2023

Pros

It has truly revolutionized the way we operate, making our lives so much easier. This software is incredibly user-friendly, and the intuitive interface has streamlined our workflow. We can now easily access patient records, lab results, and treatment plans with just a few clicks, saving us valuable time. If you're looking to modernize your practice and enhance the veterinary experience for both your team and your clients, this software is a must-have. Highly recommended!

Cons

They've made a commitment to roll out new features and updates every month, which gives us hope that the few gaps we've identified will be filled in the near future, such as inventory management and more third party integrations.

### "Streamlined Patient Care"

January 14, 2023

5.0

My life as a veterinary resident has been improved by leaps and bounds since UT started using Instinct. I'm happy to be able to check up on my patients remotely, add treatments and diagnostics easily, and watch trends over time without having to pull out multiple paper sheets.

Pros

\- Able to customize treatment and diagnostic plans for patients with ease- Love being able to see patient trends for vitals, weights, etc- Can schedule treatments and diagnostic tests in advance so that you don't forget to add them later (previous paper-based system could only order 24h ahead of time)- Easy to use interface that is also pleasant to look at and navigate- Easy to look up treatment sheets and vitals for patients that have been checked out- Most functions are intuitive even with minimal or no training

Cons

If I'm really reaching here, scheduling diagnostic tests for outpatients is time-consuming in that it requires lots of clicks. If I just want to perform bloodwork, urine, imaging, and specialty tests on a patient, I have to schedule each diagnostic, even if I don't necessarily care what time these tests get done. I wish I could just order them and have a nurse check them off when done, rather than schedule a specific time/frequency.

Response from Instinct Science

November 15, 2023

Mariola, Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct and for your positive feedback! In terms of your concerns regarding scheduling diagnostic tests for a patient being time-consuming, there should be a way around this! If you are finding that there are certain tests that you perform on a regular basis for types of outpatients, you can create product groups in Admin so that you can easily order the product group to the Tx Sheet and bulk edit the time for all as “now” or whatever time is appropriate. For example, you could create a new group - IM Outpatient Urinary - and add all relevant diagnostics and bloodwork to this product group. Accountability for treatments and easier record keeping made possible by this software is invaluable. Especially because all medical records are legal documents.

Pros

I love the layout and how clean the software is. I specifically like the Tx Sheet (and all its cool options) and Ax mode.

Cons

It refreshes constantly due to the internet connectivity issues. We have many devices logged into the program and may be due to our wifi strength and not the software itself.

Jenessa, Thank you for taking the time to review Instinct and for your positive feedback. We wanted to offer a solution to your desire to have both a client and patient location listed! Typically the patient location should be listed under Ward. New locations/wards can be added into Instinct by any of your admins within the Admin section of Instinct. For client locations, many hospitals utilize the patient info bar to enter this information. That way it will be visible on the patient info bar when you are in the patient’s Treatment Sheet, but also will be easily seen when looking at the Status Board as a whole.
