Fantastic interface and a useful workplace tool!

Pros

It is user friendly, easy to navigate, and promotes clear communication. The game is also fun!

Cons

Sometimes there are errors transferring over charges, but that usually tends to be based in user error, not the program itself.

### "It's the new EMR for our veterinary hospital. Better than our old EMR."

July 1, 2024

4.0

It's the EMR that we use for our veterinary hospital. Better than our old EMR.

Pros

I like how one can duplicate rechecks and then pop-in the necessary snippets into the required fields without having to re-type everything out. It saves time. The support staff has been friendly, professional and quick to respond. Also, when the internet is down, using emergency cell phone hotspots has been interesting.

Cons

Having to click several times (vitals history, etc.) to look for the previous weight during an active appointment. The owners always ask for comparison, and I have to be the one to say, "One moment; I've got to check on the computer." The previous weight needs to be on the printout for the intake of the appointment.

### "My favorite electronic medical record system"

May 18, 2024

5.0

I've used Instinct in 4 hospitals over the last 10 years and feel it has positively impacted the quality of medicine, the quality of medical records, and ease of writing records in all locations after it was brought in.

Pros

I love the ease of adjusting medications and the at-a-glance summary of vitals, fluids, medications/doses/timing across a 24-hour period. No need to interpret other people's handwriting. Easy to adjust to your hospital's specific needs with customer service.

Cons

That not every hospital I go to uses it. It's occasionally annoying to try to match up units on new drugs entered into the system, but generally easy to figure out/work around.

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

Ease of use, ease of learning, simplicity of design, efficiency, ability to customize for your hospital

### "I highly recommend Instinct"

October 9, 2023

5.0

Pros

The support from friendly and prompt representatives, and their openness to adding features based on recommendations. Integration was easy and our staff picked everything up without any problems. The support center at careville.instinct.com is an excellent resource.

Cons

Integration with our diagnostic equipment and Cubex has been slow, but Instinct is still far superior to other PIMS I have used.

### "This software is making my life a lot easier!"

November 7, 2023

5.0

Excellent - see above. I have really only positive things to say.

Pros

I consider myself somewhat of a power user so I tend to be very critical of software but I have been really pleasantly surprised with the functionality and well-thought out nature of the program. I feel that I have already gained quite a bit of efficiency in my charting since making the transition a few weeks ago from our old platform (Impromed Infinity). Unlike other software that I have used or demo'd, Instinct feels fresh and modern whereas most others have a very Windows 95 or DOS vibe. They are constantly adding new features and seem genuinely receptive to feedback and to be striving to make the product better all the time. The platform is very responsive, works well on mobile devices and both mac/PC, and I love the cloud aspect of it. It's been a huge benefit to not have to maintain a local server and backup. It is highly customizable and generally intuitive and even fun to use. Switching EMRs is usually a highly stressful event for a veterinary staff (I have experienced this a few times in the past) and I feel like this transition has been super smooth and relatively painless. The reason that we switched to Instinct in the first place is the excellent functionality of their digital treatment board. Really this part of the software is unique in the market and no other company is even close. It allowed us, even in a 24/7 ER setting, to go completely paperless with our treatment/flow sheets and the staff finds it very easy to use. The thing that I am most excited about as a business owner is the ability to capture/recapture missed charges now that we have full integration of the treatment board and invoicing. I have also been thrilled with the responsiveness and availability of the support - this is probably among my favorite features. You get nearly immediate chat support 24/7! I'm excited to see the new features that lay ahead!

Cons

Like any program, there are a few minor bugs but the team is generally quite responsive to these. There are also a few fairly standard features that are missing from the charting section but I am confident that these will be fixed/added in the near future. I have some worries about what happens if we lose internet connection since there is no local copy but with fiber and battery backup, this is mostly a theoretical concern.

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

Much better functionality and the potential to add full EMR in the future. I also like they they are an independent company and seem hungry.

The digital treatment board was the primary motivation but we were tired of using a software platform that basically stopped improving a decade ago and with terrible customer support.

### "Innovative, easy, and evolving "

July 25, 2023

Outstanding

Pros

From the beginning, Instinct was built by and for the 24/7 veterinary hospital. It readily adapts and improves all functionality as well as expands functionality to ensure the highest level of care for the patients all while keeping the best interest of the veterinary professionals using the software in mind as well. Automating and putting in safety measures and improving efficiency for them.

Cons

Automated txt reminders for appts for specialty services, ability to send different reminder messages based on service respectively. Inability to filter on current txt system and/or task these for reply Lack of Client portal for documents

Alternatives considered

b/c smartflow had been around for decades and was exactly the same as it always had been. Instinct was new and evolving based on feedback on speedbumps and gaps from the jump.

Built for the 24/7/specialty practice vs adapting a software primarily for GP to our type of hospital as well as moving to a cloud based option vs server dependent.

### "Instinct review"

April 27, 2024

5.0

Pros

provides a platform that allows for the comprehensive management of patient records. This includes everything from medical histories and treatment plans to diagnostic results and billing information. Having all this information centralized and easily accessible streamlines workflows and improves patient care. The customer support is also UNMATCHED! Fantastic customer support team.

Cons

One significant frustration with lies in its lack of flexibility regarding document management, particularly the inability to edit document names once they're uploaded. This limitation can be especially problematic in fast-paced emergency room settings, where accuracy and efficiency are paramount. Typos or inaccuracies in document titles are not uncommon, and the absence of a simple editing feature means that veterinary staff must resort to cumbersome workarounds, such as downloading and re-uploading files, just to make minor corrections. This process is time-consuming and counterproductive, detracting from the goal of maintaining organized and professional patient records. The frustration extends beyond document titles to other features, such as vaccine uploads, highlighting a broader issue with the platform's lack of editability post-upload. Addressing this limitation could greatly enhance usability and streamline record-keeping processes for veterinary professionals.

### "Improve efficiency and decrease medication errors"

March 25, 2023

5.0

Able to treat my veterinary patients more efficiently, safely, and it is super easy to use.

Pros

The warning if doses for a medication are out of published range, able to remote in from my house to change the treatment sheet or visualize what is happening with my patient in ICU, easy to use, can remote in to evaluate my patients and make changes if needed.

Cons

The weight graph on the left side of the patient sheet dramatically increases with very little increase in weight, making it seem like a huge change when it may not be. Would like it to be a little less dramatic with small changes in weight. For legal reasons, all treatment sheets need to be reviewed and signed by a veterinarian. In our hospital, the technicians develop the Instinct treatment sheet based on a written plan in Cornerstone. Sometimes, because the ER gets busy, this is not reviewed, and the "doctor to confirm treatment sheet" may not get checked off, or one of the technicians will check it off. I would like to see this be MANDATORY, and ONLY the primary DVM on the treatment sheet is able to check it off. I have seen numerous (at least 3) very detrimental mistakes in transcribing from the planned list to Instinct. I develop my own treatment sheets and cannot change the way things are done on my own, even though I have recommended it many times to administration.

### "The future of veterinary medicine"

April 30, 2024

5.0

From start to finish, the team behind Instinct has been wonderful to work with. The rollout of Instinct was incredibly smooth and is a testament to the user-friendliness and intuitiveness of the product. Instinct makes our hospital run more efficiently and promotes better patient care.

Pros

Intuitive, user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, continuously improving and frequent updates, incredibly responsive customer service.

Cons

difficult to use for monitoring things that are more frequent than hourly such as transfusion monitoring (q15 min), pressor titration (q5-30min), etc.

### "Feels Instinct-ual!"

April 26, 2024

5.0

Overall, it has been a great experience working with Instinct. I love that they are constantly working to make the platform better and they are very receptive to our feedback about what is working and what products/features we'd love to see developed.

Pros

The ease of use! It takes almost no time at all to learn the various parts of Instinct. From the treatment sheets, to the charting, to the Rx module- each piece seems to just make sense.

Cons

The more integration with other software, the better. For example: we have Instinct integrated with Idexx, and the more platforms that all communicate easily, the better! I know this has been a huge priority for Instinct, and their product development team is extremely receptive to requests for new integrations.

### "So easy to use, helps simplify my job!"

April 28, 2024

5.0

Instinct has been a positive change for our hospital. From the ease of use, the efficiency of communication and billing, the efficiency of data entry and record-keeping of patient information, to the design and fun little graphics and quotes! I am grateful to be using Instinct for my day to day duties and would recommend it to anyone.

Pros

I love how user friendly Instinct is. I was delighted when my company decided to fully switch over to Instinct from a different system, I remember thinking to myself "about time!" Instinct makes viewing and managing patient information and billing so simple and efficient. One of my favorite features is the "rapid registration" option which allows me to quickly check in new patients with ease (which helps me greatly when dealing with emergent cases). I can also easily chat with my teammates and even with clients which I love! Communication is a must in our hospital and using Instinct has made it so much more convenient. Also, as a somewhat of a user design nerd, I enjoy the design of Instinct.

Cons

There have been small bugs here and there, such as every now and then there may be a delay in documents being generated, or the program suddenly runs slowly, etc. But these instances are not common at all and when they occur, the Instinct team are quick and very communicative about the issues and get everything handled quickly while keeping us thoroughly updated.

### "A great program. A few things I might tweak, but the best i've found so far. "

January 14, 2023

5.0

Pros

You can tell that this program has been created BY ER WORKERS FOR ER WORKERS! That's huge! The intuitive nature of the software and the obvious forward thinking nature of the way the program is written makes learning and maneuvering within the program a snap. A great example is having Plumbs drug manual available with a calculator right at your fingertips. Brilliant and high time. It's also great for visual learners as well as readers. The golden touch though, is the ability to get help from a human via the help center. The people have always been fast and great at helping me. It has been an absolute pleasure.

Cons

I'd like for some changes to be made. The spell check is TERRIBLE and doesn't know medical terminology. Also, when I click on an individual treatment which has been performed already, it takes me to another screen in which I again have to sift through a bunch of previously accomplished treatments. Just take me to the treatment I clicked on to begin with. (This ones a big time waster.)
