### "Huge fan of Instinct, intuitive use, great customer service!"

September 6, 2025

4.0

Very happy with this EMR system. The program is easy to use and even new functions tend to be very intuitive (millennial over here). Very responsive customer support. They seem to really care about the clinic's experience in using the program.

Pros

Very intuitive to use. Very adaptive, responsive to requests for changes within program. Ability to have preloaded templates for specific procedures or conditions to load into estimate and/or treatment plan. Love the ability to generate drug doses based on patient weight, flag doses that may be inappropriate, and ability to pull up plumbs page for a given drug in plumbs.

Cons

Suspect most of my frustrations are with our personal setup vs. inherently in Instinct. Same list of line items for treatment sheets and invoice. Sometimes we have multiple similarly named line items because we have different item names for the treatment sheet (e.g. ECG hourly) that we don't want to have charged to the invoice as 12 separate items each hour during the shift, so then we have an ECG hourly per 12 hour charge. Wish that some treatments completed in treatment sheet would auto populate in initial exam document so that dose, route, time was logged without having to be manually typed in.

Already using Instinct for inpatient treatment plans, goal was to integrate this with full patient record system.

### "Instinct is really a step above others"

September 6, 2025

5.0

I love it, it is easy to use and constantly changing. If there is anything I need help with. I can jump on the chat and the team is always ready to help.

Pros

Its payment capture utility makes it easy to audit transactions for any errors during our end of day process.

Cons

The initial set up was rough, but there were facilitators the whole way through. Support is always helpful too.

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

Bad reviews from colleagues. I was able to preview Instinct multiple times.

### "SHOULD be the industry standard"

April 28, 2025

5.0

When we opened, almost none of our staff (including myself, the practice manager) had worked in veterinary care before or used any other practice management system. There was a lot of training before opening, but training and actual usage are different. The first weekend we were open, they were available the entire time we were open (10 hours a day) in case we needed any help. By that I mean we had a dedicated person on a video call for the entire time we were open, 40 hours total, that first weekend. I understand that, often, they will actually send someone TO the clinic for transitions. That level of service has never abated.

Pros

Instinct is simple, easy to learn and easy to use. They're constantly adapting to improve a service that was already excellent. The vet who opened the clinic had practiced for 15 years in urgent and emergency care prior to opening the clinic. She hadn't encountered Instinct until working as a relief vet. With no training, she was immediately able to use Instinct in the clinics that had it. When she did open her own clinic, there was no other practice management system she even considered. Tech support is top tier. I cannot praise it enough.

Cons

They have a new AI assistant that is kind of the gatekeeper for tech support. It's not unhelpful, but I am old and generally untrustworthy of AI. I'm one of those guys who adds profanity into my Google search terms to bypass any AI answers. However, it's not terribly difficult to bypass it and talk to a person. Also, some new services are subscription based, but they're optional and unnecessary if you don't want them.

### "Instinct is the way to go!"

September 5, 2025

Excellent and honestly one of a kind. Customer support has always been exceptional and they are always willing to listen and hear the suggestions the hospitals have and make the improvements!!

Pros

The ease of the software, it is very user friendly and visually appealing. The workflow has improved and communication in patient treatments.

Cons

Some features were not available that the previous PIMS software had, but the bonus is Instinct is always willing to make changes and support is one of a kind!

### "I love Instinct"

September 5, 2025

5.0

Overall- I love that our practice moved to using Instinct. As someone who has used many vet software programs, it is the one that is actually useful for the vet staff. As a technician, I love the treatment sheet use and the anesthesia record. As a teacher, it is user-intuitative, so it is easy to teach to new staff, and easy to find resolutions to any questions

Pros

love the customer support and the ease of use- it is user intuative. Even if you have a question, they are quick to answer or come up with a solution. Even people who are new to vet med find the program easy to use!

Cons

integration with some of our blood machines- although it is being worked on. Specifically Lytes and iStat

### "Challenging but Pretty"

September 5, 2025

3.0

There has been a big learning curve even though I've used at least 3 other records programs in the past.

Pros

Clean Interface & Pretty User Friendly/Intuitive. Fun Paws & Play game for team members & nice scheduling interface.

Cons

Hard to Incoorperate Old Records, Merge Systems, & Sometimes Find Records. Treatment Sheets can be tricky if you are trying to put in treatments after the fact/back timed (ER setting).

### "Best EMR Ever "

September 6, 2025

5.0

Easy! Intuitive!!!! I’ve used it now for 4-5 years (vet school into my first two ER jobs) and it is the easiest, most user friendly program.

Pros

It is the easiest and move intuitive EMR and treatment sheet ever! I began using Instinct in veterinary school and now am on my second hospital. It is literally like an iPhone in terms of ease of use/how intuitive it is to use. At this point in my career, I don’t know that I would work at a hospital not using Instinct. If you’re still using cornerstone for a treatment sheet - PLEASE consider trying Instinct! I believe in this EMR so much I dream of working for them one day - LOL!

Cons

None. Sometimes they make interface changes I don’t love but they are always open to feedback and they will quickly edit things for userability as needed.

### "Instinct is the best"

September 6, 2025

5.0

Amazing. The customer support is so friendly and that time I emailed the company just to say that I liked the little hedgehog on the sleep screen got such a friendly email back.

Pros

It's the most user friendly, intuitive, and helpful program I've ever used. The integrated Plumb's function makes medication orders so easy. The EMR and charge capture integration with the terminals is great. The anesthesia monitoring form is so much smoother than the paper and I've never come across another program that uses anything else.

Cons

I like everything it is my absolute favorite program as a technician, especially in a busy ER and when it comes to the treatment sheet

### "HAEC Loves Instinct "

September 5, 2025

5.0

Amazing! I love everything overall and love that the feedback I give is often followed later! Instinct is easy to use and great overall for all levels of technology users.

Pros

Easy to use even for those who struggle with technology. I love how easy everything integrates. My favorite is the live help at any time! Everything is amazing!

Cons

When updates make visual changes. I appreciate the updates that are always being made but I wish the visual aspect would stay more similar. It slows us down each time there is an update. I would love the option to opt in or out of some feature updates also.

### "LOVE this platform"

July 2, 2025

5.0

I love it, tell people that I love it and convinced my surgeon friend who opened his own practice to use it as his main practice management software.

Pros

Being able to easily send feedback and request app updates and features through the app itself in instant-messaging fashion. Makes it easy to ask for things when I think of them so I don't forget, and so I don't avoid doing it just so I can skip a phone call.

Cons

The anesthesia sheet print-outs (or computer-generated attachments) print out VERYA long, like 15-30 pages depending on how long the procedure was. But then again I focus on anesthesia, and only have used it for ax mode and inpatient mode so far.

Much easier and very well done. Printouts for owners are neat and easily read. Plumbs is very helpful for my newer DVMs.

Pros

### "5 stars. Brand new ER happy with choice of instinct. "

September 6, 2025

5.0

I am very happy we went with instinct and commonly tell others our positive experiences. It was a lot to get it set up but overall easy now that set up.

Pros

The ease of use. We can just through relief vets into it with minimal training and very intuitive. That it is very intuitive overall. That it is really good to not miss charges. The improvements that occur fairly quickly based on user suggestions.

Cons

Having to ask team to make vitals. Waiting for them to be made. That it doesn't prompt you when client chat occurs. Improved search now but before it was search. The inability to search patients based on things like diagnoses.

### "Efficient EMR"

Overall I have a great experience with Instinct, the least favorite part would be the internet service sometimes but not really related to program itself

Pros

Cons

Instinct has exceeded my expectations as both a practicing veterinarian and practice owner! Hands down the best EMR system I have used, and I know it is only going to improve as the industry advances.

Pros

Cloud feature User friendliness Snippets Plumbs access Oh and the staff loves the triva! I really have nothing bad to say about this system!

Cons

### "Streamlines 24/7 Veterinary Workflow—with Responsive Support & Room to Grow"

April 28, 2025

4.0

Instinct has kept pace with our round-the-clock workflow. Day-to-day tasks—from triage to lab integration—are smooth, and the support team is responsive and open to feedback. A few features (cash handling, patient photos, integration with IDEXX Web PACS, deeper provider analytics) would make it perfect, but the current product is robust and clearly evolving in the right direction.

Pros

Intuitive triage flows and whiteboard that suit a 24/7 GP + ER clinic Medical records are quick for doctors and techs to update on the fly Same-day support ticket responses Smooth integrations pull IDEXX and in-house lab results straight into the chart

Cons

No built-in cash window: we must add manual notes for “amount tendered / change given” Lacks patient-photo capture/display for quick ID on the whiteboard Voiding a cash payment skips a journal entry; staff must remember to use “Return” instead Provider-summary reports need deeper drill-downs despite the much-improved Dashboard

### "Great overall"

September 6, 2025

5.0

I've had a great experience with Instinct whiteboard and with Standards. I love the client handouts in Standards and literally use it everytime I work.

Pros

It is very easy to use and shows everything very clearly. I also love that the formulary is built right in and easy to access.

Cons

The way my practice has it set up. We didn't think everything through when implementing it. I do wish the team helping with the set up worked with our management more on better ways to implement it.

### "Kristina Johns- Partner Frederick Review"

September 5, 2025

5.0

Its better than some software options I have used. I would like there to be a notification option on the client chat on the left side like task list options notify. Our instinct rep is AMAZING and very helpful

Pros

I like that plumbs is built in and that discontinued items are still on the treatment sheet to review if needed.

Cons

I would like the automatic charging options to be simpler to add new treatments. i.e. when you attach an auto charge it can be difficult to capture the charge appropriately if the treatment is marked off sooner or later than scheduled

### "Treatment sheets make it all worth it"

August 17, 2025

4.0

Overall, Instinct is a solid choice for a 24 hour ER as the treatment sheets make everything else worth it.

Pros

The treatment sheets are above and beyond anyone else's. This is by far the best part of this software.

Cons

The rest of the PIMs is a little more clunky and the medical records sent to other hospitals are cluttered and a bit harder to interpret.

I love this software. Best system I’ve used in 12 years of practicing. The learning curve was much shorter than other systems.

Pros

Very user friendly and intuitive. I really like that we can use as a complete EMR not just a whiteboard.

Cons

It seems like the visual interface changes a lot. The latest version is difficult to visualize current visit and what has been completed vs pending documents

### "As if Cornerstone and EzyVet had a love child"

December 19, 2024

5.0

Overall, it is a very user friendly, time efficient medical record with a solid treatment sheet. Built in access to drug calculator and Plumbs are extremely helpful.

Pros

I've only used this in the clinical setting- not for data capture or billing purposes. This is my second favorite veterinary medical records platform, after EzyVet. I've used everything from DVMaxx, VMACS, a literal typewriter, Impromed, AIS, and the much hated Cornerstone. Instinct's medical record and treatment sheet interfaces work well, even in the hectic ER. We are able to set up templates for data entry and bundled treatments which are great help with efficiency. The medication calculator is a literal lifesaver. So many medical errors have avoided with this one feature. Ease of e mailing, and the ability to copy/paste, and use snippets are excellent.

Cons

Seriously, though. What is with the breed abbreviations? So confusing.... I'd love the thumbnail feature that EzyVet has, linking rad and US images to the medical record. I'd also like a cat or dog icon (or bearded dragon, we don't judge) to help quickly help identify species.

Pros

I love that this product had built in safety features. I utilized it with students and training doctors alike. This product was aesthetically pleasing and made it easy to determine how to prioritize patient treatments. This product is surpassed any other electronic treatment plan system that I’ve worked with.

Cons

I wish that I was able to take pictures of patients lab work in the system to have an electronically upload to be viewed outside the clinic.

### "Great choice"

September 5, 2025

5.0

Excellent use in a busy hospital with multiple patients, doctors, and nurses all working towards the same goal.

Pros

What I like most about Instinct is how easy it is to use. Multiple staff personel can use at the same time to help with treatments.

Cons

Toggling back and forth can cause some time delay when toggling between treatments to fill out discharges.
