Sales and Marketing Chemicals Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "My $1322 rental balooned to $1926 at checkout " November 16, 2025 1.0 When I saw pricing labeled “Total, all fees included,” I reasonably assumed the amount shown was final. Instead, my $1,322 rental ballooned to $1,926.60—a 40% increase—after hidden charges like a cleaning fee, damage waiver, service fee, and taxes were added. The claim of “all fees included” was directly contradicted by these add-ons. Taxes were especially misleading. VRBO claimed they couldn’t calculate them until checkout, which is simply false. My Marriott Bonvoy app has consistently included accurate tax estimates for over 300 bookings. These properties don’t move, and taxes are a predictable percentage. I was deeply put off by the experience and have committed never to use VRBO again. I now consider it a personal mission to warn others and advocate for transparent pricing. There was also an offer of a $200 discount if I opened a charge card account, this disappered in the billing statement, but a very similar amount was charged as a service fee. What service? It was an electronic transaction, and I did the entry. Service fee is BS, it is just a fee added on to a price that supposedly was all fees included. Pros Wide Selection of propereties and since I had used VRBO successfully and repeatedly in the past I did not shop and compare. Cons Misleading pricing, the ad stated clearly two specific statements that would lead me to believe the cost was much lower. These are Total Price (indicating total), all fees added (yet I had $368.00 in charges labeled as fees). There were popup banners boasting total all fee included pricing. Review Source MJ Mathew J. CEO President Health, Wellness and Fitness Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Booked but NOT Booked Nightmare" October 27, 2025 1.0 So I booked a home for our extended family of 8 for a wedding. My sister-in-law from out of state came with her family for this joyous occasion. A week before our rental I continued to receive emails about my rental, including the door code and instructions. Yet when we arrived, the door code was not working. We texted the host via the app but no response. I finally called and someone answered. I explained that the door code was not working. After a pause, he stated that he sold that property 6 MONTHS ago. I then was left to contact Vrbo support. After a half hour support via chat stated that the home was not available for rental since the owner sold the property. Mind you, I booked this property 2 months prior. I was then told by Vrbo that I would receive a refund and that I would be called to help make alternative arrangements. I never received a call, even after the whole weekend trip was finished I never received a call to help with accommodations. I ended up finding 2 rooms last minute for 5 of our party while my wife and daughter stayed at a friends home. The additional cost of the hotel rooms ended up being over $1100. Long story short, after contacting Vrbo support and literally going back and forth for a few weeks, they offered to reimburse me $500 and $250 in One Key cash. I asked for $500 in One Key Cash but they refused. What good is Vrbo if you can't trust the process. Our wedding family gathering turned into us being separated and put a damper on our weekend. We will never again being booking on Vrbo and I suggest everyone the same or you may experience what we did. Thank God we were not out of the country or that would have been a total nightmare. Pros Easy to use via the App. I was able to communicate with customer service via the app. You can also communicate to the host via the app Cons Horrible Customer Service. I was promised a call to help me make alternative arrangments after the Vrbo we reserved was 'not available' because the home was sold. The system is so buggy, the quality of their software is bad, the interphase is not intuitive and is old. Their customer support most of the time have no clue how to help you because they run into the same issue you do, and they have to escalate to development. Pros Honestly not much, but it does a little bit of extra revenue which honestly for the hassle and effort of dealing with them, it is not worth it. VRBO brings less then 10% of our total bookings. Cons Nothing, The software is not intuitive, performance is bad, it always has a lot of bugs, and customer support is not very well trained (most of the time they have to escalate because software doesn't work) Review Source AM Alice M. A house I rented in Oregon was a duplex, not a house. It didn’t have air conditioning and it was uncomfortable. All the other homes we rented were excellent Pros Being able to put in an area and see houses available for short term rentals. Nice homes that are reasonably priced. Cons Additional fees , the quoted price should include all charges. One house in Oregon looked much better in the pictures than when we got there it was a duplex, not a separate house. March 21, 2025 3.0 If Vrbo wasn't one of two or three major companies to list rentals on, I probably wouldn't use them. However, they are so popular it's impossible to not use them. The guest quality is usually great, but Vrbo charges the hosts a lot more than competitor platforms, their website is slow/laggy, and their mobile app is next to useless. Luckily it integrates with property management software, so I can use it as a third party tool. Pros It's easy to find good guests to rent my properties for vacation rental. Cons Their website and mobile app are not very user-friendly, it's glitchy and slow, and their customer support is slow to respond. Review Source TH Tommy H. Pros The filter options are very good and the ability to favourite options you are considering makes it easy to return to them Cons If you view listing by 'map' then it can sometimes be a bit difficult to use and select the ones you want to bring up on mobile. Pros Easy to use, especially with the connection to Lodgify. Able to manage all my reservations, guest communications, and bookings easily through my PMS (Lodgify) with seamless connectivity. Easy to rate guests via the platform. Cons The interface maybe isn't as nice as other OTAs. It would be nice of lodging taxes were paid directly as with AirBnB, instead of me manually reporting quarterly to my county, however this is a minor inconvenience. Review Source HE Heathere E. Hoping they'll change things and offer more areas and options, but it's a waste of. Time and space. Cons There's never anything available in the areas I'm looking for. Pros I am able to view all the properties in one area to get ideas for our family vacation. I am able to compare and sort based on what we are looking for at that time. August 3, 2025 5.0 A great way to travel and quickly see lots of available properties when planning a trip! I think there could be a better way to search for specific accommodations that arn’t in the precurated list. Pros Easy to search properties at any location for any time. I also like that it displays the price with ‘all fees included’ so you’re not bombarded with a higher price than you’re expecting at checkout. It’s also helpful to see reviews from other people who stayed at the property. Cons I know it’s probably a safety measure, however it can be hard to know exactly the location you’re booking without having the address or street number. Property’s can also be misleading and appear better in the listing than in real life. I would also like to be able to search for properties based on key words that are not included in the ‘filters’. Specifically, I feel like you get more distinguished or upscale properties and reviews from VRBO than other sources. Pros As an avid traveler, VRBO is my "go to" for finding quality vacation rental properties that live up to the online presentations and reviews. You get the real deal...KNOW before you GO with VRBO!! Cons Hmmm...I really like everything about this platform from volume of offerings to ability to select preferences, contact the owner, etc. The only thing i dislike is NOT seeing the total price without selecting this option. The worst one was a very unclean home and i had no support from vrbo in the situation or in the review i wrote. Pros The multitude of options. The ability to filter to specific needs, number of beds, etc. The ease of transactions. Cons The variability in pricing. The multitude of fees. I've been able to use it to compare with other like providers. In fact, I found the same site on both providers and discovered some differences in pricing. Pros Availability of whole-house rentals. When I go on vacation, most of the time I don't want to share breakfast with strangers. Cons The pricing seems to be exagerated a bit. I realize all parties need a cut of the pie, but the price encourages people to "go off grid" and pay directly to the owner. I'm sure there's a policy, but it would be hard to police. Pros It's unbelievable how easy Vrbo is to use. We just booked our 15th house using Vrbo and have had nothing but success with our vacation rentals. Cons The only thing I would change. They told me to cancel after I asked them why they had not responded knowing that I would not get a refund. Then they stopped answering again.
