I just give my parameters and it does the searches for me. It has saved me time which in turn has saved us money. The new updates have made it even more useful by adding other parameters I can use like LOI and reporting deadlines. Pros Intrumentl is very user friendly, it is always looking for grant opportunities for us, it keeps me on track of deadlines. Additionally, it is easy to pull reports. Cons Ideally, I would love if Intrumentl could integrate with our CRM, Bloomerang. Pros Instead of grant prospecting being a somewhat random activity of going through emails, doing endless hours of research in the Foundation Directory or on websites, Instrumentl is a "one-stop-shop." The software is easy to navigate, the webinars are very helpful, and the staff is super upbeat and responsive. I feel very organized and on task managing all of my grant-related work. Pros Love the ability to setup multiple projects that search for grant opportunities using detailed categories and keywords. Especially appreciate the software continually searching for opportunities and alerting me when new opportunities are available. Cons So far, all of my concerns have been addressed by the Instrumentl team. I recently ran into an issue with the reporting feature and contacted the team for help. While the system could not currently report by user, the service team member provided me with an alternate document and let me know that this was something that they planned to change moving forward. Very satisfied with the attention to customer feedback for improvements. Grant Manager Design Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Best grant software out there" December 3, 2022 5.0 I love instrumentl and would recommend it to anyone who searches for grant prospects Pros The best part about this software is the opportunity matches vs just the funder matches. Not other software that I have used has done that and it has saved me so much time because I'm only looking at options that are actually open for applications. Cons I wish I could hide the applications that I ended up abandoning. I want to be able to save the fact that I made that decision but I don't want it on my tracker anymore. That's the only thing I would change Reason for choosing Instrumentl The opportunity match feature! That is the most impressive feature and sets it apart from other search engines I have used. I can't emphasize enough how much time it has saved me. I used to hate doing research for prospects because I would find several prospects that seemed like a good match and then I'd finally find those words "not accepting unsolicited applications." Instrumentl saves me from that happening. Almost every opportunity match is a match I can apply for. It has totally built my grant calendar. It has cut down on my grant prospecting and research time by hours and hours. I've discovered funding opportunities and foundations who know support my organization's mission that I would not have ever come across otherwise. It basically pays for itself! They are very helpful and responsive to questions and problems. The webinars and meetings are very well presented and informative. I have found multiple new funders through instrumentl, all out of state. I pay for the basic package but having trialed the Plus package (which I think is called Standard?) I would recommend going with that. It has a lot of great features. Pros I love the grant tracker, it is very intuitive and easy to use. I use it every day. The calendar feature is also excellent and very useful. Researching potential funders is easy. It is fast and efficient. I have a busy role and I have to use my time effectively - Instrumentl helps me to do that. Cons I would like to be able to add weblinks to the notes section. We find folks save 3 hours a week per team member and increase their grant applications 78% within a year of use because of their ability to now bring their grant work to one place! I understand your perspective regarding new features; that's why we leave the choice for our existing customers to stay on their plan as long as they'd like, and to upgrade to different plans when their needs change. These different plans allow for existing customers to get the same core value they signed up for (along with improvements we still add to every plan), while also allowing us as an organization to continue to invest further in making Instrumentl the definitive one-stop shop for grants. With instrumentl I can search for small, quicker turn around grants that can help fund some of our smaller projects. I really appreciate that and like that. Pros That I can create different categories that match each of my non profits programs. That way I can separate prospective grants by program rather than just having on long list. Cons It did take me a while to get a feel for the program, but I also recognize to have a tool so powerful its going to have a lot of moving pieces that will take time to get familiar with. With the ability to set up several projects, we can organize our current and upcoming grants. We are also able to filter through the different stages of a grant, from researching to planned to submitted to awarded with the click of a button. Cons Some features aren't available in the basic subscription and cost more to have access to them. Reason for choosing Instrumentl Instrumentl provided access for multiple users on our account at a lesser rate. I have access to other grant search vehicles, but Instrumentl includes everything. Local, state, and federal grants, corporations and private foundations, all on one site. Pros The program makes it easy to set parameters to search for grants. There is detailed information on each grant which further helps to filter down to the best matches. I can take my own notes for each grant, which becomes a shortcut if I see a grant again. Instrumentl keeps track of my selected grants and informs me as due dates are coming near. Cons At first I had difficulty setting up new searches, but the customer service team was very helpful and explained the process to me. Reason for choosing Instrumentl Instrumentl picks up grants from all sources, plus I have a way of filtering grants that apply more specifically to the parameters I am looking for. Having the 990 information included is invaluable as it helps me better determine the potential for my grants to be considered for funding. The system updates more frequently than other prospecting systems and has more targeted keywords, allowing me to identify more prospects for which to apply. I also appreciate the email updates the system sends out about new opportunities that have been generated for my various projects and updates to due dates. I love the "Funder Summary" tabs the most because they summarize lengthy 990 forms into easy to read highlights to find great matches for our clients. Cons It can be costly for consultants like me to pay for the software monthly, if I am working on writing the grants, as opposed to researching the grants.
