We were charged for a full $2,500 annual Hearth Pro subscription that we never used — not once. No financing, no transactions, no benefit. When we reached out, the response was essentially: “It auto-renewed. Policy says no refunds.” That was it. No real conversation. No escalation. No attempt to resolve anything. What really doesn’t sit right: The auto-renewal was buried in seven pages of fine print, and they have the nerve to call this their “standard contract,” as if quietly auto-renewing a $2,500 yearly subscription is a normal or reasonable business practice We never received the renewal notice they claim was sent There was no clear or meaningful warning before the charge hit Requests to speak with a manager went nowhere We even acted in good faith earlier and didn’t push for a refund during their guarantee period, and that apparently counted for nothing. For a company that markets itself as a partner to contractors, this felt more like a gotcha charge than a fair or transparent business practice. Especially frustrating as a New York customer, where auto-renewals are supposed to be clearly disclosed and communicated. If you use Hearth, set calendar reminders and watch your card closely. If you miss the renewal window, don’t expect flexibility — just copy-and-paste policy emails. Not a good experience.

Pros

There's nothing to like about a company that is looking for a cash grab. unethical business practices. stop calling yourself partners

Cons

The auto-renewal was buried in seven pages of fine print, and they have the nerve to call this their “standard contract,” as if quietly auto-renewing a $2,500 yearly subscription is a normal or reasonable business practice

Hearth/PayEngine constantly delays or holds my business payments, sometimes for days or weeks. They repeatedly ask for documents I’ve already submitted, give contradictory answers, and fail to respond while they hold thousands of dollars of my money. I was approved for next-day ACH, but payments often take a week or more. This has caused major cash-flow issues for my construction business. Very unreliable payment processor.

I wanted a better platform that would be more streamlined, and I thought hearth was going to deliver.

My overall experience with Hearth was extremely frustrating and disappointing. As a contractor, I depend on financing partners to help close deals and support my clients. Hearth completely failed to deliver. Their communication was terrible—no returned calls, no follow-ups, and no urgency. I had two clients ready to go, both prequalified, and they ended up walking away because Hearth never reached out to them. I reached out multiple times and was given excuses instead of solutions. To make matters worse, they refused to refund me. This company cost me business, time, and trust. I will never use them again.

Pros

I’m required to write why I liked the company, but truthfully, I didn’t. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a financing provider. Hearth’s team was completely unresponsive, which led to me losing not just one but two signed deals. My clients never got a call back despite being prequalified. When I contacted customer service, I was told I wouldn’t get a refund. There was zero accountability. Poor communication, no support, and no results. I would strongly advise anyone—especially contractors—to stay away. I won’t be using Hearth again.

Cons

This has been the worst financing company I’ve ever worked with. I lost two confirmed projects because Hearth never answered their phones or followed up with my clients — even after they were prequalified and had already signed contracts with me. My clients ended up going with another company that offered on-the-spot financing because Hearth failed to call them back, despite multiple attempts. I reached out to Hearth’s customer service for help, and instead of resolving the issue, they refused to refund my money. I’m beyond disappointed. The reps were unresponsive, unhelpful, and the entire process was a disaster from start to finish. If you’re a contractor or a homeowner looking for reliable financing support, look elsewhere. Hearth has the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered and does not stand behind their platform. Avoid them at all costs.

We ended up leaving hearth for another product.

Pros

Helped us digitize our estimates/contracts. Offered financing for our clients.

Cons

The cost for financing. It was pretty high no matter if someone didn't get financing for the year from us.

Title: Disappointing Experience with Hearth I had high hopes for Hearth, but my recent experience has left me utterly frustrated. Their lack of flexibility in business dealings is shocking. I submitted a fair and reasonable refund request, only to be met with resistance and a dismissive attitude. The end of the conversation was a curt "sorry \[sensitive content hidden\], too bad," which felt incredibly unprofessional and disheartening. This inflexibility has greatly impacted my small woman-owned business’s financial operations. It's disheartening to see a company so unwilling to accommodate or support their customers. I cannot recommend Hearth based on this experience. Look elsewhere if you value customer service and support!

Pros

Do not use will take advantage of small companies

Cons

Will take your money and run. Deeply impacted financially a small WOSB here in Az.

Hearth is not a good financing broker, and an even worse company. They have a business model that requires you to subscribe and pay an annual fee for services upfront even though they don’t perform. Well-qualified customers who applied for financing were essentially disgusted with the rates that were being offered to them. I didn’t have a single customer actually move forward with an offer. And the icing on the cake? They auto-renewed my +$2,000 annual subscription after I hadn’t used the service for over 6 months. I forgot I even had the service because I had abandoned hope for it so thoroughly after the first few months. And they refused to even give a partial refund after multiple attempts. Terrible business practice. I am surprised that a large company would take such a poor, short-term view on customer service. I wouldn’t even know how bad Hearth was if I hadn’t had such an opposite experience with Wisetack, one of Hearth’s competitors. I would highly recommend anyone look into them as an alternative to Hearth.

Pros

Easy to set up and onboard. They do make it easy to start, even if they don’t make it easy to be successful.

Cons

Terrible business model (pay them regardless of performance), terrible customer service, terrible business ethics, and terrible financing rates for our customers.

Reasons for choosing Hearth

Hearth is not a credit card, which is a plus. But the rates people get offered are worse than CCs. Had I known about Wisetack before, I certainly would have used them instead of Hearth.

Half and half. For the money that we have spent on Hearth (over $2,000 pre-paid for the year) I was hoping to be confident using Hearth for invoicing and online payments, but I cannot use due to our two banks not connected.

Pros

This program came highly recommended and the online reviews are good. We use it to offer our customers financing for roof replacements. The financing portion of this service is a definite pro. Works well, no issues so far. Also a major Pro: the customer service is phenomenal!

Cons

Hearth also offers invoicing and online payment options for our customers, whether the customer is a finance customer or not. I loved this feature at first thinking it would make my life a lot easier but turned into a major fiasco when I tried to have a customer pay us via ACH. On the customer's end it was no problem, but on my end I was not able to transfer the money from our Hearth account into our business account. Both myself and the customer service team found out the hard way for me that our bank does not "work" with their bank. In other words, the two are not connected. Horrified. I had to transfer the money to a personal account then to our bank account causing a lot of confusion and tax repercussions. In the midst of all this happening, I received, through Hearth portal, notification that a quote that I had not sent was accepted by a customer. Fine except that the customer was in Arizona (I am in Mass) and the work was to replace central air conditioning units, something we do not do. Wehn I contacted Hearth, they had no idea how this could have happened and they still cannot figure it out after more than a week and a half.

Only good for customers with bad credit. However, they get offered really high interest rates. Not very successful for our customers so far. We have another option which works way better

Pros

Ease of use for customers. Sometimes they get multiple offers

Cons

It is weird that customers with 700+ credit rating do not get good interest rates while other companies are cheaper. Customers can use any other company for work while we do all the hard work
