April 6, 2018 4.0 We are able to manage our website in house without having to hire too many outside contractors. We can personalize and update as things come up. It's nice to be able to have this control at our finger tips. Pros There are SO many options for personalizing the look of our website. Also, creating associated SKUs from a configurable SKU speed the process along, especially considering we are multiple clothing lines that we produce and release each year. Cons A lot of things that seem "normal" on website we visit cost extra to add to our platform. There is no simple way to bulk price change or discontinue products. We use simple SKUs and configurable SKUs and would think that the information would trickle down from the configurable to the simple SKUs that are associated to it, but they don't. Our Company came from the Yahoo platform and that was just a 4 wall padded cell compared to Magento which is beyond anything we can fully utilize to its maximum potential for our E-Commerce business. The migration process was smooth although we needed outside developers help to do so but we got a much better, stable and faster platform with built in Full Page Cache. Pros 1\. Community edition is completely free. 2. The latest Magento2 is way much faster, secure and stable. 3. One can start a store with just the vanilla installation. 4. Readily available hundreds of plugins. 5. Easy interface to manage orders and products. Cons 1\. The latest magneto2 needs good server infrastructure to run smoothly which can be a little bit costly. 2. To change something minute in theme one needs developers help. Community is open, easy to get help for obscure questions that you occasionally stumble upon. I like the flow transactional emails, you can tell they worked hard to make it so configurable and well done. Cons Expect issues when updates come out, because things can and will break. They could improve the reporting tools, add more segments. Lacks a simple blog option, where you could publish newsletters etc. Wordpress+Woocommerce could be better if this option is important.
