### "Perfect for online sales management"

August 6, 2019

4.0

We've been using Magento to develop and manage several websites for the past few years. While my team was not the one to create the website, we were given a lot of access to manage and customize it as needed. Including running ads, using widgets like location finders, etc. I also appreciated the places where you could instantly change a product value everywhere on the site.

Pros

• Ease of use for new users • Options to restrict and permit users to have certain features • Visual Set up • Universal information implementation

Cons

• If your admin set you up incorrectly, you may be limited in your actions. • Older versions are a little more confusing

### "Magento eCommerce"

July 7, 2021

One of the best open source CMS to build robust, flexible and scalable website. You have control over its design lots of management tools.

Pros

Great management tool, SEO feature is top notch. Very mobile friendly and has capabilities for testing. Easy to configure with third party integration. With single install you can manage multiple stores. High support from community.

Cons

Bit expensive if you compare it with the other platforms in the market and if you want the ownership it cost a lot.

### "Working with Magento"

September 30, 2020

1.0

Overall, being on Magento was hard but it did help up scale to be able to move off the platform to a more friendly user platform. Magento has a lot of great features but overall, too complex.

Pros

What I liked about Magento was the unlimited development possibilities on the platform for a site.

Cons

Magento is very complex to use and does not have an easy admin panel. There was always issues happening and this happened on a daily basis. Must have some development skill in order to work with Magento.

### " Magento is #1 for any large business!"

March 14, 2018

5.0

Pros

Amazing program for any large business needing a solid shopping cart system that is also highly controllable on the backend. Our team created an exception website using it, product addition and editing is easy once trained, and the SEO spike helped us tremendously.

Cons

It isn't easy to use for just anyone, you need some training but that isn't difficult to pick up in classes. The only criticism that I have since I do think it is the best out there

It needs a great team to set it up, and also to maintain it's functionality on a daily bases. But in order to achieve great performanses you need a good start

### "Magento Community V.1.9.3.6"

January 20, 2018

4.0

Both our website consultant and one of the third-party module developers have recommended against upgrading to the newer Magento platform, advising that it wouldn't reduce any of the problems we have experienced.

Pros

As a small nonprofit, we couldn't afford most ecommerce platforms, and Magento has worked reasonably well for us over the past 3-1/2 years. Our website looks nice, and is relatively straightforward to update after a moderately steep learning curve for people with very limited prior website management experience.

Cons

It isn't set up for membership organizations, which we are in addition to selling products. Third-party modules have significant limitations. We have a membership module that our local web consultant has been able to reprogram to work better for us as problems became apparent (at extra expense, of course). Another module connecting Magento to Square POS sends only the total amount paid to Square, requiring us to do a lot of record-keeping in a separate spreadsheet for sales tax, member dues and donations, etc.

### "Incredibly powerful platform for big e-commerce, but takes significant hosting resources to run"

January 28, 2019

5.0

Pros

Magento is very functional, with ever possible iteration and variation on an e-commerce style you can imagine. Bundled products, individual products linked and recommended together, alternative sizes / colors / options, etc. No problem. Setting sales up in advance with dates and times set for the sale to start and stop. Bulk editing / uploading of products or product images. Customize the checkout process. Anything you can think to modify or do differently, Magento can do that.

Cons

It's a bit of a learning curve to find your way around and understand how things work, but that's to be expected with something so powerful. The worst part is probably not with Magento directly, but with the hosting companies available. It takes a ton of hosting resources and a lot of hosting sites out there will tout themselves as being capable or even excellent for Magento hosting, but most are not. They are relying on the customer to use Magento for a small-ish store, in which case it might work. But once you start uploading hundreds or thousands of products, it slows to a crawl and is completely unworkable.

### "Informing yet hinder-some to navigate. "

July 25, 2018

4.0

I benefited from the software by being able to access data at will without fears of inaccuracies or missing data. It allowed for me to pull data relatively easy for sales reporting in excel and other formats.

Pros

I am a big advocate for detailed date without historical limitations and Magento does a good job at capturing accurate data and listing it in a way that is moderately accessible to its user.

Cons

I am not a fan of the functionality of the product however, I feel the navigations tools are very dated and I am hoping Magento 2 has fixed some of these issues and made the program more modern and less dull.

### "Used daily by our ecom team to manage our site"

March 27, 2018

5.0

Very powerful tool for managing our product catalog. Easy to edit and manage product information and very flexible for our needs.

Pros

For what I need, Magento makes it very easy to navigate through our product catalog and get and edit info on any products, categories, etc.

Cons

Magento can be fairly confusing to use for the first time if you do not have someone help you through it. Some sort of on boarding process could be very helpful

### "Magento a Good Starting Place for an Online Store"

February 14, 2017

4.0

Initially Magento was implemented by a website design company to create a website to sell a bespoke service and products for us. Set up as a website that we can maintain and develop in house, which we have done for the past 4 years. We do not use the shop and buy basket element of Magento. But I can see it would be a beneficial website use for companies selling off the shelf products. It is fairly easy to use but basic HTML5 knowledge is beneficial. Multiple users is helpful, that has required training in house. Magento role out security patches that need to be applied; we have these applied by an external company. As a B2C company, we do not actually use payments online so I unable to comment on that element of Magento. For the version of Magento that we use, we do not have access to their customer support however on the occasion I contacted them and they informed me this; they were helpful and at least put me in the right direction. The entire set up is good for a ecommerce; it is especially good for maintaining SEO well and updating it regularly.

Pros

Multiple users and ease to update website data and information.

Cons

Some elements can not be updated in house and require a developer/programmer.

### "Difficult to navigate and has issues"

July 3, 2022

3.0

We did benefit from Adobe commerce and it is an effective product with adequate features for business. The price is high but it's worth it even with the issues it has.

Pros

This product has some great features and really helps you grow the e-commerce aspect of your business. Our organization has used this product for a while but I only used it for a month or two until I switched to foster marketing. We boosted sales tremendously with this product and created a professional and effective online shop. The shopping cart feature was great and our customers loved it as well.

Cons

This is a very expensive product and it has a lot of difficulties with updating and syncing information. It's difficult to navigate and learn how to use. Overall it was just slow and confusing for me.

### "Magento is one of the top eCommerce software packages"

November 12, 2017

Lots of orders on our site that are processed successfully without much interaction on our end.

Pros

Implementing Magento into our website (and Wordpress site) has allowed us to easily take payments, submit license codes, and send receipts to our users.

Cons

It's complex. VERY complex. If you want to customize it, you need to know programming or be willing to spend lots of money in add-ons that can do what you need.

### "Magenta: The best CMS platform for e-commerce sites"

February 26, 2021

5.0

MAgento CMS has many flaws, which must be corrected as quickly as possible. Another software like prestashop is much better than it. You can easily interact with customers, and you can also send automatic e-mails to customers. The customer positioning feature allows you to configure the relevant product set for each customer group. You can integrate fraud detection tools to minimize the risk of fraud from customers or suppliers. It allows administrators to easily customize its management interface. If you can avoid Magento, it's very good for you or your company.

Pros

The best CMS platform for e-commerce sites. It contains huge functions. Although I don't know all its features yet, I use it often. If you want to do something on an e-commerce website, Magento can deliver it to you. There are many free and paid extensions to extend the features. It is very easy to write code, so you don't need to hire a programmer to use this CMS for a great customization job.

Cons

It is a frequently used platform and always vulnerable to attacks. As a result, both in-house and outsourced IT teams must perform regular security updates. I think there is a version of Magento that has been discontinued, but for small businesses, you almost need something that can give them complex community publishing features, but it can be exploited by Magento. In the next few years we have to decide whether to stay in Magento or move, Shopify offers a very attractive hosted version.

Switched from

[PrestaShop](https://www.capterra.com/p/134005/PrestaShop/)[WordPress](https://www.capterra.com/p/131687/WordPress/)

Prestashop is also one of the very good e-commerce platforms, but PrestaShop has almost no free plug-ins, most of its plug-ins and themes are paid for. PrestaShop is simpler and easier to adapt than Magento.

### "Open Source Ecommerce Software Great for Flexibility"

September 21, 2019

5.0

Great platform worth considering- many brands are just fine on the open source "community" edition that doesn't have any license fees.

Pros

If you have to customize any part of your ecommerce operation, such as a tricky ERP integration, Magento is hands down the best solution.

Cons

The enterprise edition, aka Adobe Commerce, isn't cheap and monthly hosting costs can add up for merchants- but it's still worth it.

### "Awesome Platform"

September 10, 2019

5.0

Overall Magento has been great to work with. They offer an open source version of their software all the way up to enterprise. The software is flexible, easy to use and fits multiple form factors easily.

Pros

I love that its mobile friendly, flexible, scalable and has a lot of options for site developers that we can work with.

Cons

I love using Magento and working with their team, but one of the drawbacks is that it's not easy to change things without the use of a site developer who is very familiar with Magento. Sometimes simple changes can cost money because of this.

### "Robust Platform with Issues"

September 23, 2019

3.0

Magento isn't the best option for simple ecommerce but as a robust platform there are a lot worse out there.

Pros

There are so many add-ons and options available that it is one of the most comprehensive options. It is also great for our 10,000+ product catalog.

Cons

Very choppy sometimes, not sure if it was our developer however but weird things happen when trying to duplicate or delete products.

Very time consuming, I would not recommend.

Pros

Cons

The constant need for updates, makes this software unsuitable for a small business. You need a dedicated IT department to keep everything up to date and secure.

### "Comprehensive and powerful e-commerce software"

June 18, 2019

5.0

We've been using Magento for our company website for over 4 years. It allows us to easily showcase hundreds of products, while making it easy to update and maintain.

Pros

It is packed with features. I have used it for years and I still don't know all of it's capabilities. If you're looking to do anything with an ecommerce site, then magento can deliver. There are numerous free and paid extensions to expand the capabilities. It's very easy to code, so hiring a programmer for custom work is cheap and easy as well.

Cons

The learning curve is moderately steep, but it's nothing insurmountable. It just takes some practice and patience.

Great platform.

Pros

It allowed my small business to get to the next step as an e-commerce platform. It had multiple integrations between my accounting and shipping systems, which stream-lined my business, leading to saved time and money.

Cons

Some functionality and modifications were limited, or required significantly more time investment than seemed necessary.
