### "Good for e-commerce websites"

June 3, 2019

4.0

Pros

This was a good platform for our global e-commerce website. We did use a developer to build it out but was easy to dive into and help build out some pages to help the project stay on track with launch. You do have to have some background in websites and coding for some parts but most sections it is easy to plug in in the information. They allow you to handle your SEO easily and create up-selling, cross selling and promotions easily.

Cons

I didn't like that there are some glitches but I think that is common for any platform. The glitches do require you to have a developer who is familiar or certified to build websites in Magento.

### "Depending on your needs, Magento can be great, but it will cost you."

July 18, 2019

2.0

It's a hard platform to use with lots of bugs and frequent updates. If your organization needs Magento, it needs Magento - but managing a Magento site will result in a lot of headaches and a lot of development expense.

Pros

Magento is fully open source and very powerful. No matter how many products or orders you receive, Magento is strong enough to handle it and manage them. It's the perfect tool if you're selling products with many variations and/or customization options. The sky is the limit as far as web customization goes because it is open source.

Cons

Magento development is very expensive and absolutely required if you have a Magento platform. In House development can be very time consuming and strangle IT departments for web optimization. Site updates can get caught in caching loops as well. All integration projects to Magento are also time consuming and expensive. The free version of Magento might start out free, but you will be paying heavily in the end no matter what. Customization can get really complicated and often can cause problems down the line.

### "E-commerce platform with good functionality"

December 25, 2022

5.0

An e-commerce platform that is full of many useful tools but a little hard to integrate and manage them.

Pros

There is a very big variety of different tools and can make many integrations with other softwares that other similar platforms cant manage

Cons

It is hard to use for beginners. It takes time to learn how everything is working there. I would say that this platform requires an extra software developer who can manage everything thru this platform since many things can be done only with coding skills.

### "Great software, but needs a lot of effort to make it work well"

August 1, 2018

4.0

A good working e-commerce website based on open source code.

Pros

There is an opens source version that may work all right. I am not a developer and neither a technician and I could set it up by myself. Even when it takes hard work. There are plany of extensions to give your site the look and feel you want. And works well with multi language sites.

Cons

It is recommended for shops that has more than 1 million dollars of yearly revenue. After using it for some years, I see why. I think it can be fine for shops that sell more than 200.000 dollars per year. But it may need to have a developer working on at least some hours per week.

### "Definitely the best ecommerce platform"

August 12, 2018

5.0

It's a really advanced platform so for this reason it might be a bit difficult to use for some, but besides that it's just fantastic. Magento has anything you'd ever need in a ecommerce platform, so that's why I recommend it 9/10 times. That one other time is usually for beginners - maybe they should try something else or at least prepare to learn a lot.

Pros

It definitely has the most extensive feature list, that's for sure! Catalog management, SEO, gift registries, customer service, order management and dozens more! If you want a really advance e-shop, Magento is your #1 choice, that's for sure. Advanced, really customizable, safe, always supported, that's why I love it.

Cons

If you're just a beginner, it might be a little bit difficult for you at first. But once you get used to it, you'll definitely love it. It cannot get better for ecommerce.

### "Robust, but SO Much Work to Use"

February 22, 2018

4.0

Honestly, very few. I suppose it's good to have gained a little experience with Magento to add to my repertoire, but that's about it.

Pros

There are a plethora of installed features: search term synonyms, built-in marketing tools, detailed shipping/packaging settings, separate catalog and cart price rules, etc. It's a monster of a platform, one that serves many companies very well. Not having to install a hundred plugins (like on WP) to do what Magento does out of the box is a plus, for sure, not to mention having to worry about the compatibility, support, and updates on WP plugins.

Cons

Go away for 5 minutes, you're signed out. Also, literally every website I download Magento to has to have everything reindexed. I get this message immediately after installing Magento: "One or more indexers are invalid. Make sure your Magento cron job is running." Very little info out there on how to fix this, so the first go around was a bit tricky. Not impossible or difficult now, but it's not a good feeling when you install software and immediately it appears broken. It is simply not easy to make a site look good with Magento. You can, for sure, but it requires SO much more work than other platforms, and there's not an easy way to view the front end without going live. The idea of not having plugins seemed appealing, but after using Magento, I only use WP with WooCommerce unless a client near-demands that I use Magento. It just takes way to long to create anything. The time I would have spent installing, updating, or researching plugins in WP, I wasted just trying to find my way around Magento. There should be a way to create a quick menu or admin favorites bar or something, so it doesn't take 3 clicks/pages just to get to where you want to be.

### "Solid eCommerce platform with a quirks"

May 23, 2018

4.0

Pros

I'm a Magento 2 Enterprise Cloud user, and I find the bundled services (CDN, Caching, Reporting, etc) to be of great value. They are also PCI compliant and support a wide range of payment methods, shipping, and integrations. The platform is just booming right now and seems to have a great future.

Cons

Magento 2 Cloud Edition comes with a few restrictions for the sake of security. Those restrictions are a problem with extensions that aren't optimized for the cloud version. Cloud is a new product so developers are catching up with the specs. The installation of new features via extensions could also be a problem for non-developers. You will find WooCommerce, Shopify, and Prestashop click based approach more efficient in this aspect.

### "Online Business Made Easy"

October 8, 2020

5.0

Pros

We use this Magento as our primary machine for our online website where we sell products. The interface is very user friendly, and even without training I would be able to navigate and comfortably. We are able to integrate with Celigo and NetSuite which makes all of our most important systems able to function as one. Easily able to review purchases, adjust product price levels, even change tax rules, etc.. The customer service is always good.

Cons

I have been using Magento the entire time I have been at La Sportiva which has been about three and a half years. This is the only website back end I have known, and I have never had issues before. We had a strange tax problem earlier in the year and it turns out that we had specific tax rules set on different "store types" so this was causing customers to pay wrong tax amounts. This was super frustrating but we were able to fix it after a few months. That was probably the worst thing we've experienced.

### "Not for the beginner or for most users!"

February 13, 2019

4.0

I wouldn't recommend unless you have a lot of money and the right team in place. Don't try to figure it out yourself.

Pros

This is such a robust software. you can run many websites and share the same cart. If you know what you are doing magento is super powerful. It's great if you are doing millions of sales per month on your website.

Cons

This is not for most people and even if you have a big company, there are other tools that are easier and just as good. Also for google ranking, it's much better to use a wordpress site. It's very difficult to use and the developers tend to be more expensive.

### "The right e-commerce platform for a mid-size business"

March 17, 2023

3.0

We've used to run a Business-to-Employee project and it has worked quite well.We did not have big business requirements: we just needed a platform who could take orders and manage payments.

Pros

It's the right platform when you need to manage a mid-size business, with not more than 3.000 orders/month.It's well structured, it allows you to manage your catalog without and headache.

Cons

It's not like Salesforce Commerce Cloud. It's not that ease to use, and its user experience has to be improved...a lot.

### "Expensive, There Are Better Options Out There"

March 20, 2019

4.0

This platform is not for first-timers. You have to be very detailed on what you want, and be very aware of the costs involved. It's not a good platform for a small ecomm team to manage on a day to day basis.

Pros

This platform is super customizable, which is a big deal for a fashion brand who is very stringent on their look and feel.

Cons

The time and money it takes to make changes is much more than, say, Shopify. You also have to factor in costs of server performance, which is difficult if you are trying to grow a business and need to forecast traffic in order to make sure your site does not crash during a rush.

### "eCommerce Simplified"

January 9, 2019

5.0

Having worked with numerous eCommerce solutions, both free and paid, I would say Magento comes on top as the best ever. It is the best solution for small to large businesses.

Pros

Magento is an easy to use ecommerce solution. It does not require a lot of technical knowledge to manage. It has all the necessary feature required for an eCommerce platform; from Search Engine Optimization to Catalog management. It has a large community thus easy to get support.

Cons

It may require purchasing a few more extensions so as to achieve specific objectives e.g. In case you need a multi-vendor platform, you will have to add another third party extension as Magento itself does not offer that. It may need an experienced developer to customize.

### "Adobe Commerce is good for big businesses"

May 5, 2023

5.0

I used this software at my old job as it was a bigger corporation but now at a smaller organization, it just isn't worth it for the amount of revenue.

Pros

It has a lot of great functions and features given it's being powered by Magento layout. This really allows for creativity to enhance to look and performance of your store.

Cons

is just way to expensive for the little guy. It can be slow at times too and it also requires quite a bit of skill to master.

### "Great For Larger Businesses"

November 27, 2019

4.0

Mostly positive. Any obstacle can be overcome but still if I didn't need the bells and whistles I would go somewhere else.

Pros

Magento is open source. You can add anything you want there are an unlimited number of developers and extensions available and with Magento 2 the code is more regulated. It is very easy to scale.

Cons

Time intensive. For anyone who doesn't need frills Magento is a hassle. It requires constant care, constantly has performance issues and you always need to work on those. It's a highly used platform that is always open to attacks and so security updates need to be done regularly by your in-house or outsourced IT team. It's a lot of work.

### "Almost Perfect ECommerce CMS for Mega Stores"

October 2, 2018

4.0

If you are a megastore and want to add over 1k SKUs for your store, Magento can be Solution for you. If SKU's are below 1k, I would strongly recommend using WooCommerce or Shopify. It 'll be a much cheaper option. Extensions, Themes are quite expensive and plus the developers cost for customization is quite expensive as well. But it's all totally worth it if you are running a store with good earnings and good traffic. Small CMS like WP has always had scaling problems. But not Magento, it is totally built for scaling stores. Not recommended for small business or Startups.

Pros

For Store that has over 500 or 1000 products, Magento is perfect from them. Adding bulk products is quite easy. So many customizations and classes available for generation coupon cases or sale cases. Can easily handle big traffic.

Cons

Have to have basic knowledge of PHP and html. Server has to be good. Atleast VPS or Dedicated. Very complex user interface. Extensions and Themes are extremely expensive.

### "Super powerful, but can be cumbersome"

April 11, 2019

5.0

Pros

Magento is clearly one of the most powerful and robust ecommerce tools out there. The Shopify approach, while great, takes a lot of the tools out your hands—tools you may need to make important technical changes to your store. Magento is very flexible, fast, and able to suit stores from small level to enterprise billion dollar retailers.

Cons

Where Shopify hides or locks certain technical settings from you, Magento gives you more access. But this can also leave your store open to being accidentally messed up by an employee that hits the wrong button. I've often said that while Magento can be fine for small start up ecommerce stores, it is best suited for bigtime enterprise level retailers with a team dedicated to fully utilize the tools Magento makes available to you. For the average employee for a small boutique, for instance, Shopify seems to make things a bit easier.

### "Magento has been an ecommerce powerhouse for a decade but it's struggled of late"

June 22, 2018

3.0

Pros

Incredibly powerful ecommerce software which has meant it dominates the ecommerce market and has proven itself for enterprise and B2B businesses, arguably the hardest position to get it right!

Cons

It's complexity means that it's not (or no longer) suitable for small businesses as upkeep and maintenance will be too expensive. There are still a large amount of bugs & issues in the core platform that even the communitry contributions are struggling to keep up with.

### "Very powerful software, with some complications"

April 5, 2018

4.0

A very functional website that caters for complex product scenarios

Pros

Magento is a very powerful piece of software that allows web developers to create almost any possibility. We have developed some very complex products on our website that require formulas to calculate live pricing.

Cons

For admin entry and non-developers Magento can be very clunky and hard to work with. Unlike some rivals that are set up for ease of use. Magento needs developer background and knowledge of coding.
