### "Designed to meet the needs of a job shop environment"

April 14, 2025

4.0

Pros

I liked the fact JobBOSS² allows me to follow the job status in real-time from the work center update. I can easily tell which workstation is behind or ahead of the schedule and mobilize resources to ensure timely deliveries which there was no way I could do in the past.

Cons

The reporting tool lacks flexibility in a way that allows me to go through multiple jobs with similar material or customer group. For instance, when I wanted to run a profitability report per each of the related customers, I had to export and then combining outside.

### "Offered accurate job costing which helped in increasing our margins"

April 11, 2025

4.0

Pros

I believe it was a significant upgrade in terms of the job costing accuracy for our company. It also allows for the tracking of materials and hours in order by order to find which orders are consuming the most time. I have been able to assess which jobs are inimical to margins and make correct estimations in that respect.

Cons

I noticed that it was somewhat limited on the part variation when it came to vendors. We are often unable to distinguish new revisions of parts from the same supplier unless we enter new part numbers for them, which only increases the amount of data we enter on our end.

### "10/10 Would Recommend JobBOSS²"

October 15, 2024

5.0

JobBOSS² very much helps us with inventory and keeps that cost effective for us. The job traveler and going out into the shop is very handy to put any information we want on there. For all of our users, everyone is bought in and likes using this system a lot.

Pros

#1 - We really like how robust JobBOSS² is and how much it covers for us. Also, with so many features and capabilities, it is also very customizable and allows us to change just about anything we want. I used to use JobBOSS and am really enjoying the improved experience with JobBOSS². Next, the regular updates are fantastic, keeping us up to date with the newest features and enhancements of JobBOSS². Lastly, we love that we can run the system on either Windows or Mac computers.

Cons

With order processing and looking at our order list, when we want to order by job or order number, the saving remains at a default setting. When we customize this, it does not save over time. When we leave the system, it goes back to the default settings. Also, it does not allow other users to see my work, still resetting to the default every time.

### "5 Stars for JobBOSS²"

October 16, 2024

5.0

Overall, the system is reliable and doesn't go down - I don't lose important things that I keep in the system very often. It works for what I need it to do.

Pros

We really like the structural layout of JobBOSS². It is repetitive in how it's laid out, so the logic and flow of the system is very intuitive.

Cons

While the system worked very well for us as our one single company, we have had some complications with bringing newly acquired businesses onto the system. We had some custom code written to accommodate this, but is still not functioning properly for us. We cannot easily combine multiple companies into the system.

### "We Love JobBOSS²"

October 16, 2024

4.0

Overall, JobBOSS² works very good for us. The capability of this ERP is awesome.

Pros

JobBOSS² is easy to use. It's very flexible and user friendly. Also, it is easy to bring new employees onto the system, teach them how to use it, and quickly get them using the system effectively.

Cons

One of our integrations is not syncing up properly - we're struggling to get the data points over from Paperless Parts into the system. Also, there seems to be a ceiling on scalability with the number of parts of our products, as some have 600 or 700 components - this can be difficult to manage.

### "JobBOSS² - 10 Out of 10 Recommendation"

October 15, 2024

4.0

JobBOSS² is easy to use. Overall, we would like more tech support if we have an issue, and to work through the issue right away. We want to move fast and solve problems. However, sometimes it takes longer than we would like. Luckily, we can troubleshoot a lot of issues and figure it out ourselves.

Pros

JobBOSS² is very easy to navigate. Overall, it is a very simple system and feels natural to learn and get familiar with the interface.

Cons

It is quite expensive for us. Also, we would like to see a more easily viewable dashboard for scheduling and job status - where a job is currently at, and having easy access to this information. More graphs and charts would be useful.

### "7 yrs of use - just could not get it to deliver "

September 9, 2024

2.0

Disappointing. In 2017, we went in excited about all its features and how easy it was to use from sales demos. In reality, that was not our experience. It took over a year to get working, then the next year, trying to get the QB integration to work. In the end, QB integration never worked, forcing us to move all inventory/ordering, etc., back to QB. This was yr 3 now. Project scheduling was difficult to deal with changes and led to consent managing the software, which took just too much time. We moved to a stand-alone project, MGT software, for much better results in yr 3-4. Payroll reports took our bookkeeper an extra 1-2 hours each payroll to compile the information; this added cost just made us move to a stand-alone payroll software in yr 2. When we realized the only use was to hold our legacy job travelers, it was time to extract that information and discontinue the software. However, they have no provisions or support to extract your data in bulk. We had to do one job at a time: extract/download. When we gave the 30-day notice to discontinue our month-to-month service, we were told we missed the cut-off to cancel and would have to pay ten more months.

Pros

Bar code time tracking on jobs. Really help with shop metrics for individual performance.

Cons

It isn't easy to learn and train new users. Even after well over a year of working with them, we could never get the QuickBooks integration to work correctly. (The QuickBooks integration for Enterprize just does not work.) We flew in their 1:1 trainer at $1200 per day, and even he could not get the QuickBooks integration to download correctly. He handed it back to their support team, who, in the end, quietly quit the project. The time clock for doing payroll requires much manual work to finalize the payroll hours. It's not a refined process; yes, it has reports for payroll, but it is more of an afterthought.

### "Inventory Control - Spot On"

August 14, 2024

4.0

In the 8 months of using JobBoss, there was a certain learning curve as with all new software, learning how tasks are stacked to certain functionalities. Once that is learned, you can easily find what it is you are looking for.

Pros

The detailed control of purchases based on past purchases/cost/vendor to have it flow back into the job bidding process to insure we are keeping on top of making sure we properly bid on work. Making purchases based on specific job requirements/needs is paramount to minimizing overhead that might get stuck in "stock" and left as an unknown costing thousands in underutilized inventory dollars.

Cons

The difficulty in finding and/or tagging documents to certain jobs that might help the manufacturing process. This might be based on how your company uses related drawings or details for bids that might be won.

### "Buyer Beware"

September 17, 2021

1.0

To anyone that is thinking about purchasing E2, now known as Shop Tech....BUYER BEWARE Our company made the decision to purchase E2 in 2018 at a machine show. The sales associates that were demonstrating the software did an amazing job showing off it's operational talents and expertise. The company paid for two of us top management specialists to travel to a training sight where we worked out of a step by step workbook, which began the wasting of monies....But then 1/1/2019 the nightmare began. The program was not the same as the one purchased by the President of the company. They supplied a brand new version of E2 and told us that it had been a replacement for the one we purchased and the prior was no longer available.. For two years to follow we were nothing but guinea pigs. Our company suffered computer glitches, accounting problems, data loss and production interruption, due to the unready malfunctioning computer software supplied. Numerous hours spent with E2 support, could still not rectify the continuing accounting issues and glitches within the software. Weekly we received updates from E2 tech support to fix problems in their new system. These updates regularly had thousands of changes. Goodbye Shop Tech... and good riddance!

Pros

The customer service was terrible and we do not have any pros to say about this software.

Cons

We hired a representative from their company to fly out for some help with direct training and accounting fixes. We had to prepay for his services. Upon arrival he informed us that he too was unfamiliar with the accounting portion and couldn't help us much. His services totaled over $6000.00 We finally resorted to paying our CPA office several hours to go through the process with us and balance the books. In short, $37,000.00 later, not only we would NEVER recommend this product to any sized businesses, but if you're thinking of viewing this product, don't waste your time. They will show you a demo of software that's already setup and operating smoothly, which is NOT what will happen when you implement. As of January 2021 we have since, happily moved on to new software, but recently been forced to pay for the last six months of (non) tech support or risk being sent to Collections from Shop Tech. Classy Shop Tech....very classy.

We are a custom fabricator of precision metal parts and assemblies. We are very diverse in our customer market base, each of which has their particular needs and associated challenges. We started out several years ago using Excel spreadsheets for quoting that became increasingly complex and customized. The maintenance aspect of the quotes and quoting process became very convoluted and messy. The biggest problem with a Microsoft product system was the ability for any user to accidentally make changes to the quoting sheet for one particular customer and that calculation would carry over to other quotes. We knew that we needed to improve the process of quoting and tracking time associated with each project. In addition, we wanted to add BOM and stock tracking capabilities, so we began to look at all of the options available. We researched JobBoss, Citrux, Syspro, Intuit and Microsoft Dynamics. Each of the software platforms had pros and cons. For us, the determining factors were price per function and the feature set offerings that were specifically designed for manufacturing. We did not want to custom tailor a software package for our shop. We wanted a software that was already set up for the way we do business, all we had to do was populate the fields and learn the basic functions. Overall, E2 has been a good decision for our company. It has allowed us to scale up and spend much less time tracking order status, employee and machine utilization and keeping track of BOMs without the use of Excel spreadsheets, which we used to use for everything. Excel was a good starting tool for us, but was not sustainable as we have grown. We are much leaner now than before and I feel that we are able to generate and evaluate useful BI data for evaluation. We like having the ability to know the time it takes us to process a particular job through the shop, and the ability for administrative employees to be able to check the status of a job. We have recommended E2 to two of our supply chain partners since inception. One of the companies uses it and does well with it. The other company never embraced it and made the commitment to fully transition over to it. The moral of the story: It is a good tool, but it is not a five minute process to transition into it. It requires a champion within your organization that will learn it and be willing to get the data transfer set up so that your company can make a hard-stop transition over to using the system and not look back to your current system. Human nature is to resist change and you will have to manage your staff’s desire to keep using your current system because it’s comfortable and quicker, due to their knowledge of the current system. We have had a few issues along the way that have been frustrating (probably 5 times in 6 years). On a few occasions we have lost some data and had employees that were unable to input data into the system. We believe that the root cause was the system failing in some way while an employee was logging data. For example, If I am inputting data into an order and there is a fault (for any reason: power dip, hardware on my computer, etc) the E2 system sees this a problem because I was in the main database and when the network connection is re-established. We back up our data daily and can always revert to the previous day’s data. This was a fairly easy fix, but the primary frustration was the lost time determining that the system is no longer recording the data that we put in. Ratings: Initial Install and data transfer, 7 (The tool to do this has gotten better since we migrated our data) Training and support, 9 (Support has been good) Ease of use and how easy to work with, ( Initially, 7. Now that we are comfortable with it, 9) Any hiccoughs or glitches, (Yes, but minor, and probably in line with industry standard.) Accuracy of info generated, 9 (You must ensure that employees are logging into and out of jobs accurately. This takes time, but will become a learned behavior. We have a lady in our office view the employee's log twice per day to ensure that they are logged into a job. If not, then they have to explain why) We would purchase E2 again.

### "Archaic & Tedious"

December 30, 2016

1.0

Archaic and Tedious is exactly how I would describe Exact JobBoss. There are significant limitations in the software to consider up front. Part numbers are limited to 30 Characters. Drawing numbers are limited to 16 characters. General Description field is limited to 30 characters. Their answer to this is to provide an extended description dialog box. But you can not see the value of extended description in any sort of list view, therefore you can not see the complete description of your materials or parts anyplace until you generate quote document, or purchase order document, or a report. The general Description field will clip your description. It will let you enter more than 30 characters. But if you save and exit, then open the same quote it will have clipped the description to 30 characters. The UI is not user-friendly despite other reviews. I seriously doubt they have conducted usability and ergonomics studies with actual customers. It is very easy to get off track and be very disorganized with materials. Where it should have a good predefined material structure. The reporting side is very limited unless you are familiar with programming Crystal reports yourself. If you are building a product structure where multiple components use the same material, there is no way to add the same material to multiple components at once. You can copy material from one component to another, however, you cannot copy just a single material. For example, the component that I am copying from may have 5 materials in it. I have to copy all 5 materials into the target component then delete the materials I don't want in it. Same way with copying routings. A tech support rep argued this with me via email. To convince him I was correct and it was not possible I had to take a video of my screen attempting to copy one material and send that to him. Only then did he come off his position that it was possible. I can not see both the routings of a component and the materials of a component at the same time. They are two separate view windows you have to click back and forth in. Likewise, you cannot see the materials in multiple components at once. You have to click back and forth between the components you are interested in. If they rearranged their UI you could do some of these things, because there is plenty of room on your average size monitor screen. I have a 24" monitor and at a comfortable resolution, JobBoss is really only utilizing about 50% of my display space with actual pertinent information and controls. It's very easy to accidentally delete things and there are not many places where you can Undo, so if you accidentally delete something you are SOL. There is no way to add additional custom properties to a component. For example, I can not have Customer Part # and Our Part#. There are unforeseen nuances as well with formatting as well. If you enter a value in Vendor Reference field or Detail Number, then it overwrites the space for Extended Description on our Purchase Orders with Vendor Reference or Detail Number instead. You can not delete a material that has been used in a job. Unfortunately, we have a terrible material database with poorly named materials. We would like to replace the badly named materials with new materials that make more sense. But there is no good way to do this. Once a material has been used, closed, or scheduled it can not be deleted. It can only be inactivated. But what I want to do is replace it completely. Now they will say that they have a replace functionality, but it is really a rename functionality. But you can only rename one material at a time. So it's not really a replace function. Lastly, if you have limited seats you can set a user sign out after a period of time. However, I have found that if you walk away and have not saved your quote or job and it auto signs you out, it DOES NOT always save it for you. So you may lose work that you have done since last save.

Pros

It has quoting, materials, costing, and scheduling, and job status capabilities.

Cons

Sadly the UI is severely lacking. And it seems not much thought is given to usability and efficiency.

### "JobBOSS2 is a very user friendly product."

November 16, 2022

5.0

We have been using JobBOSS2 (and its predecessor ShopTech E2) for 16+ years. It has served our needs extremely weel and for job shop software that is on the market today, it does its job very well.

Pros

Modules that flow together easily. Also the ability to track clock in/clock out times and amount of time spent on jobs is so simple even someone that does not posses basic computer skills can use the product.

Cons

In some areas it is very rigid and does not allow flexibility you would expect from a mid-teir package.

Reason for choosing JobBOSS²

Other products, while on the surface appeared to fit our needs, when put to the test, fell short by a wide margin from allowing us to run our business as we needed to.

### ""Functions as designed!""

January 30, 2024

1.0

It has been the worst implementation in my 45 years of implementing manufacturing software systems. Our customer service rep is late or non responsive to our inquiries about the software. Software is very limited on flexibility adapting to a company's industry needs.

Pros

Not much so far, functionality is very minimal and rigid.

Cons

Lack of product development. Haven't seen a single meaningful software improvement in over 5 years. Constantly being told the software is working as it was designed.

Reason for choosing JobBOSS²

Sales oversold their product and we feel stuck now.

### "We think this is the perfect software!"

September 26, 2019

5.0

We can't say enough about the outstanding support and customer service from the folks at Shoptech. They have always been an absolute pleasure to work with - extremely responsive and knowledgeable!

Pros

We are a 20 person precision machining and sheet metal fabrication shop. We do everything from prototype to large quantity production runs, and E2 Shop System does everything we need it to! This software follows a part from cradle to grave; from establishing raw material part numbers all the way thru to cash receipts, it ties every aspect of a job together, and is extremely user friendly! I love that we can collect real time information on the progress of a job, and when all is said and done, we know EXACTLY how much it cost us to produce a part. It allows us to give our customers the best possible price without any guess work on our end. We have been able to keep our accounting bills to a minimum, as the software allows you to produce balance sheets, income statements, 1099's - EVERYTHING! In 2017 we decided to convert to the Web Based version, and it was an absolutely seemless transition. I LOVE that we can do quoting, bookkeeping, analysis, etc. remotely. No longer needing to maintain a huge server has been great too!

Cons

I can honestly say that I don't feel like there's anything "missing" with this software. Of course, there are the occasional "glitches", but Shoptech is very responsive and quick to come up with a fix! If I HAD to find something to complain about, it would be that the "maintenance fees" are a bit high for the web based version. However, not needing to maintain a server and the expense associated therewith, it's probably close to a wash!

Reason for choosing JobBOSS²

When making the decision of which software to purchase, I decided to "use" each one for a week, without any input from outside. I wanted to see which would be the most user friendly and intuitive, and I ended up choosing E2. It was just easy to use, and it did everything that we needed it to do - and more!

### "Everything you ever NEEDED to know"

August 28, 2019

4.0

E2 manages ALL your data from your shop floor through your bookkeeping. The reports have always been the best selling point. Even sorting data becomes easy with the various export methods. You can quickly transfer the report dat to say excell and then again manipulate and massage as need for even more insight. I have always (and will continue to) recommend this sofware to other owners.

Pros

This software has the ability to organize your business workings into manageable reports. Reports that you can tailor to you specific needs. The more you follow the simple rules of E2, the more benefits it can deliver. In my own business no two jobs are alike and no procedures for the jobs are identical yet E2 understands this principle and manages to sort data in such a clear manner as to help you with decisions going forward on all future work. I cannot give a higher recommendation on any other similar system.

Cons

1.) I wish I could control the "Markup Pct." column in the General Tab when entering parts. I feel this item should have strict control - administrator only! Any of my people entering a part has the ability to change this percentage at will. Many an argument has resulted from my becoming aware of someone making an adjustment to this column, I wish I could lock it! 2.) When processing a return, it writes back to the original Order and amends it. Now the "Order Total" changes. It should not change. The order total should still match the customer P.O. total. The simple code should be that the (Qty Ordered) X (Unit Price) goes to make up the (Order Total) UNLESS there is something in the 'Master Job Number' column. In this manner the customers P.O. amount would still match up to the Order Total

Reason for choosing JobBOSS²

Very good saleman. Their abilty to demonstrate with much clarilty the data use was a deciding factor.

### "10 year user of the product"

June 17, 2024

5.0

We have had an excellent experience with E2 / JobBOSS from 2015 until now. It has given us a lot more consistency and visibility into the business.

Pros

It does a great job of capturing all of the work flow in a manufacturing business. We use it from estimating all the way through shipping.

Cons

I do not believe you are able to upload a csv file as a user or admin. You have to have the company do it for you. It should be able to take a properly formatted csv like most software application will allow.

Reason for choosing JobBOSS²

It has a lot more capabilities than expanded accounting software.

### "The Perfect Manufacturing Software "

October 25, 2018

5.0

We have been using E2 for well over 16 years and so far we love it. We have used other systems and this one just seed to get it right. In that time we have only had a handful of issues of which most were fixed in minutes and all we had to do was call Tech Support and explain what was not working. The customer and technical support staff are extremely knowledgeable in what their software can do and how they can customize it to fit your every need. They have even extra fields set aside for all most every function to carry different data types just in case you have found a data point that they haven't thought of.

Pros

E2 creates a clutter free work space with a simple layout and design. Shop Tech has broken down the manufacturing process to get a true understanding of how our company really operates. The bolt on modules allow for greater control of specific functions in particular departments. We specifically use the Scheduling and Custom Order Import Automation functions. Scheduling give us a top level view, department view, work center view, and all the way down to a view of sub parts that make up a single part. This tells us exactly where an order is as well as if we are under or over loaded at the work center and department level. All I have to do is pull up the schedule, click a button for the level of detail I want to display and away it goes. The Custom Order Import Function has allowed us to automate the order entry process by simply downloading a file from our customer, pointing where I saved the file, and clicking "Import". This function creates the order and based off our custom company settings which we have setup to automatically pull from stock jobs, inventory, post a quantity to make or a combination of all of the above. We can then run a requirement report to see what we need to make to fulfill open orders or to make stock for inventory. It really doesn't get easier than that.

Cons

The extra modules do have a cost but they are well worth it. On the plus side of that, E2 will demo the modules with full functionality and if it doesn't incorporate everything that you need you don't have to purchase it.

### "Solid Product with good flexability"

February 16, 2017

4.0

Our company has now used JobBOSS for around 4 years. We have found that the user interface is quite intuitive and straightforward to use. This is a plus when training new people on the system. Functionally, it has met most of the needs that we purchased it for. We loved the idea behind the scheduling module, but have found it to not be a good fit with our shop. We are primarily a custom high mix, low volume shop. This leads to many jobs that have potential to run in more than one pathway on the floor and most jobs are first run where we do not have a history of expected production run times to fall back on. We also have split our shop floor into three self directed production cells that have a fair amount of cross work. The self direction means many production decisions are made at the cell level and not at a command level. Because of these factors, we found that matching our shop floor to the scheduling module was exceptionally difficult unless we were willing to dedicate a full time person to keeping it accurate. In the end, we believe that the scheduling module would work better in a higher volume production environment with more of a top down command structure than how we operate. The reports that come with JobBOSS are reasonable, however, we have found that digging deeper into the data (at least the directions we looked) required special reporting. It is handy to have someone on staff who is comfortable working with SQL tables, data mining and creating custom reports. Exact does offer custom report creating. Just remember, it come at additional cost.

Pros

As someone who does look behind the scenes and works to dig data out of the system, I am impressed with the amount of information that JobBOSS does capture. Additionally, it is quite well organized in its structure. On the front end, the user interface is intuitive and lends itself to easy training.

Cons

Reporting. The stock reports are reasonable for a company that does not need to dig into its data very deeply. But the analysis at deeper levels would either require purchasing many custom reports or have someone on staff that can dig into the data and create custom reports. The scheduling module works best in an environment with minimal chance of perturbation. Systems that have a high degree of variation become hard to model accurately.

### "Room for Improvement and Poor Onboarding support"

October 14, 2022

3.0

Dissatisfied and disappointed.

Pros

Interface is user friendly and visually appealing. A lot of potential.

Cons

Limitations on customizing views, terrible implementation support, tremendous lack of technical support. Editing an order "freezes" it so if a PO is cut for material on that order, it causes a glitch. Customizing reports is not the easiest, and could be easier. Worst part so far has been trying to get technical assistance with the system. You will have to invest a lot of your own time to figure it out without help.
