It does what it promises gives us visibility into our network and infrastructure with reliable alerting. We've been using it for about 2 years now, and while it has some rough edges on the UI side and the costs add up, it's become an essential tool for our ops team. Pros The real game changer for me has been the intuitive dashboard. I can spot network issues at a glance without drowning in data. What I appreciate most is how easy it was to set up monitoring for our infrastructure without needing a PhD in networking. I am just a fan of the networking monitoring and alerts. Pros The Free version gives you 100 sensors to start with. That is more than enough to test the software out and can give you the full dive of the product. Cons A bit of a learning cursive at first form what I remember, but they do have the auto discovery for a device. That can help you figure out what you want to be monitoring. The fact they still provide a free version for smaller networks is great. Pros It's ease of you and ability to support almost any network device. Lots of customisation to suit most devices. The alerting feature is the standard for network monitoring. Cons It can look a bit dated at times and miss the flashy, impressiveness of Grafana. May 12, 2025 3.0 To be fair, this app was setup by my predecessor and some of the problems may have just been configuration choices he made. But the complexity of it, the number of probes was overwhelming. It does a good job of alerting, but when there is so much, it tends to overwhelm to the point of ignoring it. So trying to go thru and pare it down is not easy. Might be worth scrapping it and starting over. Pros It is a comprehensive solution. Monitoring, alerting, scheduling, it has most everything needed in a monitoring solution. Cons The complexity. So many probes all for the same machine. December 10, 2025 5.0 Highly recommend it if you are looking for something cost efficient and something easy to build and maintain. Pros We been using PRTG for almost a year now. We enjoy that it is real-time monitoring and it alerts us using via SMS and email. We also implement the software in a cluster, so that there is no downtime. It offers the service for free to 100 sensors, which also makes this a great product if you are in a small-medium business company. It is easy to setup and use and within a few minutes you would have a functional alerting system. Cons I don't think I have anything to complain about if they are offering this for free. Creating maps takes some time, if they offer some built-in templates, I believe it would make it even better. But besides that, this is free - I can't complain about it. I'm sure there are templates and possibly scripting that I haven't explored or discovered, but what I have used for monitoring remote events has worked really well. May 28, 2023 4.0 Over the years we have experienced failures in our network which have allowed us to learn details that we could correct over time, usually our technical support function was corrective, that is, when a failure occurred our team worked and corrected the anomaly presented, with PRTG we could proactively turn the work into preventive, with the possibility of preconfiguring thresholds on nodes and other specific equipment we could detect failures such as traffic jams, loops and even in some BRAS servers failures such as lack of IPv4 addresses; All this allowed us to improve the network's operability, reducing downtime. Pros Honestly I have used several tools that allow us to perform the analysis of our IT infrastructure and I can say that PRTG has given us a hand in relation to monitoring, remote management and fault detection in equipment such as switches and other transport network equipment, in addition to them and based on the previous configuration where we parameterize the nominal values to determine their normal operation which gives us timely alerts to take corrective actions on the spot, the tool is very complete and customizable to our need. Cons The implementation of the tool is the point where you have to be more careful to make good use of this and in turn PRTG perform the functions for which it was designed, in the initial configuration thresholds are determined which are not the same in all organizations therefore requires that the staff implementing the application has extensive knowledge in network administration and the learning curve is steep despite being intuitive tool. Once you get everything done in terms of configurations and custom settings, you basically need to keep watching the dashboard and your email for the notifications. Pros I like the interface, which is very versatile and allows you to customize the views that are more important to you. I also like to receive notifications when something happens so we can quickly react and fix. Cons Some of the sensors require very complex configurations and that sometimes prevents us to get the most from PRTG. The system is so complete that it also has too much settings for each sensor which sometimes makes the work of configuring them very exausting. The 24/7 monitoring, the vast array of sensors available, the maps that can be made available without need for a login, and along with the historical data that is available make this a must use piece of software. It's worth the time even if all you can use is the free 100 sensor version. Pros I can monitor just about everything I need to monitor. Most are via the built in sensors but the options for custom sensors takes it to the next level. Cons The price is hard to get past. Smaller shops would have a hard time validating the cost. The interface is can be overwhelming (not sure how to avoid that) and it's frustrating that it's not possible to multi-select objects on a map and move them all at the same time. Instead you have to move them one at a time which can become very tedious. Pros The large number of monitoring operations on the servers and the availability of options to monitor and clarify cloud services in detail It is an integrated control panel and you can control the number of seconds and services of the machine And it divides them for you into categories such as the machines that are hosted on the ESXI and puts them in a separate group and so on. The interface is excellent, clear and fast, unlike some other programs It is characterized by its work on the local server without the need for a separate machine. Cons A little slow in the hardware check process Guidance messages cover some important buttons, which prevents them from being noticed. Some errors are not clear, such as when I ask to monitor the Memory and Hardisk, the error is not clear if it is in the Port or the Authentication process or even the Firewall, so I hope to detail the errors to facilitate their solution. There is no monitoring of Ping in the form of a list and the form of a tree, it is difficult to monitor all devices on one page.
