Pros I want to start by saying that I am using this to record and edit voiceover recordings and I am very much a beginner. I had been using Garage Band and this is so much easier to use! Editing tracks is so much more intuitive and I would have saved myself so much time if I had been using this software all along. Cons The interface definitely feels a little dated but for a free program, I can't complain. I've had a few hiccups with audio channels disappearing but I fully admit that this could be user error. Pros We loaded audacity on our laptop and connected the laptop to our stereo audio set. We are working with vinyl and cd's and we digitalize them via audacity. Pros Been using Audacity forever, mainly to edit audio files; amplifying audio files, censoring parts of audio files, fade in and fade out, adding sound effects. Audacity has been my go to audio recorder well. Audio is crystal clear (you can choose the sample rate/quality of the audio). It's free. Pros Audacity works across all the media types that I needed. With Audacity I was able to reconstruct audio recordings based on multiple takes that I had on old cassettes for a music project. The ability to edit with extreme precision to capture outtakes and re-assemble them into a fluid final cut was amazing. Cons The UI isn't as pretty as other solutions and it take time with the manual to understand how to use the software. Not a show stopper, but given how much this software can do, it was worth the extra effort to understand the basics. Needless to say, I am happy with its simplicity. Pros Audacity is a free program for editing audio files. Not only can you cut a song shorter for your favorite part, but you may also copy audios from certain tracks and paste them onto others, mixing and mashing them. There are other functionalities like increasing the overall volume of an audio file, accelerating or slowing its speed, as well as recording your own audio. Cons Since it is a simpler tool and thus relatively easy to utilize, even for starters, it does lack a specific number of additional functionalities which other audio editing apps possess.
