I wound up switching to Descript. Pros I like the fact that its a free software and it's great for beginners that are deciding if they even enjoy editing audio. It's everyone's first audio editing software but people always move on to better things when they have the money to do so. Cons After 6 hours of editing and episode for my podcast, the files corrupted. I was devastated and so stressed out and frustrated I laid on my floor and cried. It is also useful for any audio editing in general, including editing audio to use in video projects. It is a fairly good convertor as well, able to handle most audio types. Pros Audacity is easy to use for the first user, but contains a depth of options for the advanced user. It can be used be novice and expert alike. It should be the first editor one uses when you start podcasting and for many, it can be the only one as well. Cons Audio export tends to freeze up the computer until the file is completed, it would have been ideal if there were settings to determine % of PC use and modification of the export window. It would also help if there was a visual undo button rather than just the keyword that undos an action. While I do play them, for some that I like to hear often, I prefer to use Audacity to restore/enhance the sound, and then export them to listen to on my phone. I find this software is invaluable for anything audio related. In fact, so far, I haven't found anything it CAN'T do! Pros This software does so much. I have been able to record very old, acoustically recorded 78 rpm records, and restore and enhance the sound. I can then export them as mp3s. I have also used it to mix tracks together. It takes a bit of learning, but nothing most people can't handle. Overall experience with small works on audio was good. It's not useful for producing music or using it as a DAW though. Pros Audacity is the most known free audio editor in the world. Some people call it a "DAW", but I feel like it's not. I used Audacity a lot in the past only for converting files to .mp3 or compressing them, it's perfect for it. There are some EQ and filter tools that works great too. In my opinion, it's a perfect companion to make some tweaks, cut and fix small details on an audio while you work on another software. Cons If you want to produce music with it, prepare for some stressful hours. The user experience is not too good, tools are useful but limited, slow processing and not intuitive at all. I needed some time to learn how to use the software at all, but after that I just do all of my recordings in Audacity and I never had any stability and functionality problems. Recording audio and cutting it is really easy to learn. Very important to say is that this software is free to download what’s really great from developers and they are still working on the software ( Audacity is regularly updated) Cons Audacity would be even better if a user could record multiple channels in the same time ( like in Cubase) I personally don’t like the look of the program. Pros Recording software is extremely expensive. Other brands can make it big impact on your financial situation. For a long time I have been a user of a very popular software editing program. My job requires me to have several computers. Many times I have faced the inability to install software on many machines. So I went with the next best thing. I looked for free stuff. I was so surprised when I started using Audacity. Not only did it have all the same functions, but it produced great sounding audio. Editing was simple, and I didn't have to go through complicated setups just to get the job done. It was like it worked right out of the box. Cons I really don't have anything to complain about Audacity. I would even recommend that this is the go-to software for anybody on a budget.
