February 19, 2022 4.0 Software with many features, from basic to advanced (at least for me), and best of all, it's still free. In the beginning I depended a lot on tutorials to learn how to use it, to be able to understand the panel and use it correctly, and then I got better. I've had it and have been using it for over 10 years, and I've been able to see its progress. Pros I liked the ease of being able to edit my audios, with cuts, make divisions, join with other audios. Cons For my needs, I didn't find any difficulties, but what I didn't like was the changes in the terms of use of the software and the privacy policy, through which my personal data can be shared in other countries such as the United States, Russia, and some countries in Europe. April 13, 2022 5.0 I have been very pleased with the capabilities of this program. It suits our needs to a tee. Pros Audacity is an affordable, feature-packed, editor that allows you to easily record, change, and enhance audio files. I love being able to take old audio tapes and record them directly into Audacity. Once in the program, it is simply a couple of clicks to eliminate background hiss. Easily import midi files directly from the source. Exports files in a wide range of common formats. Cons I would like a little more control over equalization while editing songs. Filtering out extraneous noise would be much easier. For example, I was trying to edit a background track for our church choir. The original recording had two beeps at one spot on the track. I have recorded many a voice over on it before. But when you want to go deeper into audio production, you'll need something a bit beefier. Pros Audacity is the baseline for what audio software should be. If you're looking to do some basic audio editing, it works wonderfully. Things like shorting audio clips, putting music under speaking, recording some voice over for a video. Some of the built in effects can provide a bit of fun too. And the base version is free! Perfect to dip your toe into the world of audio editing and mixing. Cons There isn't a ton that can be done when it comes to more advance audio editing. The interface also isn't the most user friendly. When trying to match timing (such as singing over an instrumental track), Audacity would scoot the vocal recording ahead a few factions of a second. It does what I need it to do when it comes to audio splicing, audio recording, and audio volume normalization. I highly recommend to anyone looking to work with audio files where a single track or multiple tracks. Pros I have used Audacity since the early versions. Since the beginning the app was easy to use for audio splicing and audio recording. Cons It is not necessarily the prettiest app. The app is functional and reliable. The ability to add various effects to the sounds. The possibility of recording in multiple tracks Cons The UI in Audacity is unattractive, and may seem complicated to beginners. Pros I love that a novice like me can go in and utilize Audacity for basic needs. I am not a music pro by any means, just the director of a dance and theatre program where we often need to cut or splice music for our programs. Occasionally, I will need to layer in other sounds, but even that is getting a little fancy for me! :) Cons Since this program can be utilized by the pros, sometimes there are items and tools that can feel overwhelming, but they also allow the noobs an opportunity to utilize this to "feel" like a pro. The first feature that stood out to me was it is free to download. The next great thing about Audacity is the drag and drop features of adding new tracks. And lastly , the thing I liked the best about Audacity was how easy it was to edit sound levels to make it what it's supposed to be. Cons The things I liked least about Audacity were its moderate learning curve if you've never used this before and how there aren't many built in tutorials for the interface. It does import sounds hassle-free, provides a good waves diagram system to check pieces of sounds and handle music samples effortlessly. Cons I don't find particular cons about this free and easy to use software. It might be a little more capable in terms of the features, but it does provide a solution for simple audio tasks, and it does deliver. July 28, 2022 3.0 I will use Audacity occasionally, as it's ease of use, being free, and uses little processing power is difficult to beat. It has some flaws and can use some improvements, but I would recommend it for most people. Pros What's great is Audacity launches quick and runs smooth on older computers as well as modern setups with no performance hit. It's a great piece of software for basic audio editing needs and in particular great for making sound effects, cutting audio clips, and adding some basic effects such as fade in, fade out, etc. The simplicity of of the interface is very clear cut and easy for beginners to the software to understand. Audacity also has a quick way of adding multiple layers, which is useful as it allows you to duplicate something you're working on, make changes to the new version and go back to the original layer and copy over made changes if any mistakes were made during the process. If you want to record a bit of audio with a microphone plugged in, Audacity also allows you to do that with relative ease. Cons What's not so great is no built-in mp3 export and finding out about it the first time after installing the program and you've been working on a project for some time. This really stinks and should really be integrated when first installing the program. Instead the user needs to download a separate plugin and just seems unnecessary. There should also be a more intuitive and cleaner way to search for effects, as currently it's just a massive drop-down menu with too many options displayed in one place, we could really use a menu with different categories or sections, would be easier to find an effect and save some productivity in the long run! Best of all: it's free and easy to use, not to mention loaded with features. It also supports plugins of all kinds, including user-made ones that one can write at home. Pros I love this app for its ease of usage, it is lightweight, has a portable version that can be easily saved to a thumb drive, has comparable functionalities compared to Fruity Loops, Sony Vegas and Wave Pad. These are just the ones I used and can compare it with but I can say it is a very excellent app in comparison with the ones I mentioned. Cons The lame.dll file is just sometimes not detected and you have to download it to export the audio to an mp3 file. Although you can still export it as a .wav file. The available files online are sometimes not compatible to the version and nothing else is available. I think it's great for beginners or people who want to give voice-over a try. Audacity makes it super easy to learn and gives you everything you need to start your voiceover career or just for fun! Pros First off I love that it's free and one of the easiest voice-over softwares I've used. Of course, you still need to have some base understanding but it's very user-friendly. The ability to convert files to fit specific formats is great and super useful Cons Obviously, because it's free there are many features that aren't available but for someone just starting out you really don't need those extra features. They can also seem overwhelming at first when there are so many so keeping it simple is great but later on after some experience, you may find yourself wanting more and inclined to find other ssoftware and pay for those extra features.
