### "It works better when you take a class"

December 2, 2025

5.0

I opened my own business and had to learn to classify all my expenses and categorize them into taxable or non taxable transactions. I had to set everything up as I had a custom business model and there were no presets which was difficult until I decided to go take a class. After the class I was more informed but there was a large chunk of learning left. After my first year everything pops into place with the things I have set up.

Pros

The learning curve was not to bad for a first time user. I would highly recommend taking a class yearly so you can keep up to date on all of its functions and features.

Cons

I’m just not as happy with the mobile device functions as I could be. All functions on a desktop should be available on the application of a mobile device whether it be a tablet or a phone.

### "A great solution for Small Business"

December 16, 2025

5.0

So far so good! It's been helping me safely secure payments and manage my business finances well. There's plenty of articles online for assistance when needed too.

Pros

Being self-employed having this software helps tremendously in streamlining my business operations from invoice to accounting.

Cons

There's a bit of a learning curve if you've never utilized software like this but it's relatively easy to use once you get the hang of it.

### "QB Solopreneur: Cheapest software to manage small business finances"

March 9, 2026

4.0

Since I am looking for the cheapest way to send invoices, receive payments, and track LLC spending, this is the best option for me.

Pros

I like the price of the software and how I can send invoices easily to clients. It's also easy to sign in without issues.

Cons

I do not like how it requires certain accounts from my bank to be linked to the software. This creates inaccurate money tracking.

Switched from

### "Quickbooks"

April 14, 2026

3.0

My overall experience has been good, aside from pricing. Once I have familiarized myself with the new layout, I thing it will be a much better experience.

Pros

I like that there have been so many upgrades recently to make it more user-friendly. The new dashboard is nice.

Cons

I feel that the cost of running payroll is extremely high. I am looking for a different payroll provider. I also find it difficult to find past reports.

### "QuickBooks has Helped us"

February 18, 2026

4.0

Very little personal experience. I am familiar with connecting the system to my bank but i am not good with General ledger entries

Pros

We use this for our bookkeeping and accounting needs for our small business, it helps us to maintain security of our transactions and to keep up to date with payments and receivables. It is still a learning curve for us but it seems easy to use for our accountant

Cons

I am not great at navigating it but after all i don't do the books or bookkeeping at my business. I would like to learn more

### "Great, simple and does the job."

August 16, 2025

5.0

Generally no problems at all and a very smooth experience. Seems to be the best accounting software out there for my needs!

Pros

It's great value and has everything I need as a sole trader starting up a new business. It's easy to get your head around and creating products, services and invoices is super straight forward. I love how I can link my bank account to it.

Cons

I wish there were more features to tailor to my needs and to integrate other apps/services like GoCardless. However that's quite a big ask considering how cheap the subscription is.

Switched from

[Zoho Books](https://www.capterra.com/p/163115/Zoho-Books/)

Zoho Books was more expensive and a lot more complicated to figure out. It did have more features, but simplicity is key for a small business.

### "Must Have as a Single Business Owner"

February 4, 2026

5.0

It really helped me run my business. I was able to send invoices and estimate, organize my finances, and track business expenses. It's a must have if you run a single person business or are a freelancer.

Pros

It is extremely user friendly. It has an amazing all in one platform that helped me manage all my payments, finances, taxes and more. The user interface is simple. Perfect for my small business.

Cons

I did not have any issues with it so I wouldn't say there are any cons. It obviously had to be something to learn but it was easy to do so.

### "Strong learning curve but very useful"

March 27, 2026

4.0

Very positive but I needed help working the book keeping consistently. I was getting conflicts where it double counted things. I now have a book keeper who helps me.

Pros

In general it’s very effective and does everything I need. (Book keeping, 1099s, invoices, recurring payments, mileage tracking, etc)

Cons

It has a really strong learning curve and the platform rolls out too many updates in layout and structure.

### "Solopreneur Reivew"

January 16, 2026

4.0

it's good for simplifying tax prep (Schedule C), expense tracking (receipt capture), invoicing, and separating finances, easy user interface, but it's too basic, missing features like full transaction search or custom categories, and struggle with customer service, while others see it as an easy-to-use tool perfect for simple needs but potentially insufficient for growing businesses needing deeper accounting features

Pros

Excellent for Schedule C prep, estimating quarterly taxes, and identifying deductions. Easy expense tracking with receipt capture and bank linking. Good enough for early learners.

Cons

Lacks advanced features like custom categories, tags, or deep transaction searching found in other QuickBooks versions.

### "Easy to Use and Set-Up "

February 26, 2026

5.0

Overall I give it an 8/10 rating but it is easy enough to use that I cannot see myself changing to a different software.

Pros

QuickBooks connects directly to my business account making it accurate and easy to use. I can create invoices in real time and email those to buyers and buyer agents. Customers can pay me directly through the electronic invoice. I’m about to track vehicle mileage with in-app tracking as well as create specific trips for my Home Inspection business. My business accountant has direct access to assist with categorizing expenses. I’m able to create reports and track expenses easily. The reporting process is educational and easy to follow for a small business. I feel secure using QuickBooks.

Cons

I’m not a fan of having some of the pre-set expense categories. When i use my business bank card the software guesses the expense category and I have to go back in and change them.

### "A business life saver"

June 14, 2023

5.0

I started using QuickBooks Self-Employed because it was offered for free if I used TurboTax to file my taxes. It was a great deal, and it kicked my accounting up to a new level. I have been using it ever since, and have been, for the most part, very pleased with it. My clients seem to appreciate many features about it as well. When Intuit began some restructuring and informed us that we would no longer receive Self-Employed for free, I did think about switching. I am a very small business, and while the expense can be written off, I wasn't sure that I was ready to add another monthly expense to my business. However the ease of importing business accounting info into TurboTax each year was too compelling for me to stop using QuickBooks, so I stayed on. It has been a great help to my business over the years, even with that hiccup of having to begin paying for it after using it for just the cost of filing my taxes through TurboTax for nearly three years.

Pros

I am a creative person. While I am intelligent and understand the basics of accounting, it is not where my strengths lie. I appreciate that QuickBooks Self-Employed makes things like invoicing and tracking expenses so easy. The fact that it will dump all of the pertinent information into TurboTax come tax time is icing on the cake. It makes managing the finances side of my business so much easier, giving me more time to create for my clients. Reporting is easy, which really came in handy when I bought a house and needed to provide the bank with records of my income and expenses to show I could afford the house. I also really like the fact that I can keep track of personal income and expenses alongside my business accounts. It is really easy to use, and if I ever need help with something I am not familiar with, I have options with their tech support (which has been really helpful when I've called) or providing limited access to an actual accountant. While it's not perfect (nothing is), it has been a great help to me in running my small business.

Cons

While there's nothing glaring that stands out to me, I do wish I could create custom categories for expenses. There are times when I'm not sure how to classify something, as it doesn't fit into the provided categories. I know for some people, that could make the accounting really messy (too many categories could be problematic), but there are a couple of categories for which I make regular purchases, and it would be nice to have the option to make a new category. One other thing I find odd is that sometimes the "rules" for transactions don't apply to new transaction even though the name and amount are exactly the same. I'm sure there is a reason for that, but I can't imagine what it would be. It's a little frustrating to recreate rules that had been working for some time. There is also another small issue that when I am presented with just unclassified transactions, it disappears as soon as I select "personal" or "business" not also allowing me to assign the category. So I have to return to the full transaction list, find the transaction again and then assign the category. Perhaps some people only need to mark with a transaction is business or personal, but for me, I would like to be able to finish classifying the transaction on the same screen.

### "This program is an absolute nightmare"

July 13, 2022

1.0

Truly hate it

Pros

There is nothing to like about INCONSISTENT software that can delay/hurt your business at any random moment.

Cons

The software is barely supported. Talking to a live technical agent is virtually impossible. Some minor glitches are constant and go on unfixed, but the major glitches come without warning and can literally bankrupt a small business, costing thousands of dollars in hassle. One glitch last year would deduct the GST amount owing from ONLY the customer's end of the invoice. It's not hard to imagine how quickly that damage adds up. This year I cannot send receipts. All receipts show up in the form of an invoice, an obvious disaster. Today, I can't even send invoices. They simply aren't getting to the clients. So today I'm left having to reach out to every client, troubleshooting. My business needs me to operate so that is an entire day's revenue lost. These are only a few examples, I could write a book on why to avoid this software. All I can do is hope a day will come when I have the time to transfer every single piece of customer data manually into different, more reliable software, because that's literally the only option this piece of trash software has once your already in.

### "Has made tax returns so much easier"

April 28, 2023

5.0

Overall I’m pleased with the progress and support received

Pros

After 2 years of last minute panic in January to get all expenses and income pulled together from a million sources, this tool has made things so much easier with everything being tracked real-time from accounts (banks, cards and paypal) and I add receipts as I go along where I can so all I have to do after year end is some categorisation and reconciliation / gap filling work

Cons

I have 2 businesses and am unable to list them separately but within the same account at present. As I use the same bank account and credit cards for both accounts I would like to be able to easily tag expenses to each business as I believe you can do with Xero

### "Crippled Software"

June 17, 2022

1.0

See above. It’s designed only to frustrate you into upgrading. But I’m going to a spreadsheet rather than pay them anymore. The Quickbooks I used 25 years ago was excellent.

Pros

Terrible software. Nothing good to say.

Cons

1\. Once you have entered a billing item you can’t change the price or remove an item from your catalog. 2. You can not reorder the rows in your invoice. 3. You can not insert a new item in the middle of your invoice. 4. You can not include images of receipts for reimbursement. 5. You can not give your invoice a job title. I enter a title as the first billing item so my client has some way of knowing what job but that appears nowhere in my invoice list so I can see which job is which. 6. There’s more but to think any self employed professional could use this is absurd. 7. Customer support doesn’t welcome feedback, they just say you’ll have to pay more money than what I pay now. I am not on a free plan, this costs real money.

Response from Intuit

We want to thank you for trying QuickBooks Self-Employed, Alexander. We'd be happy to pass this feedback on to the Engineers. They do look at this to add or update existing features. Keep an eye out for anything new on the QuickBooks Blog (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/whats-new/). Wishing you all the best! -Kristina, The QuickBooks Team

### "It was great, and then they made it terrible"

June 22, 2022

2.0

I used to tell everyone how great it was and then they made the self employed app no longer functional. Invoices can't be organized by date, it is riddled with errors that have prevented me from being able to update my business address for over 8 months now (in spite of them promising a fix every time) and to top it off discounts can no longer be added to an invoice. It is really remarkable how they took something so great and have managed to make is so dysfunctional .

Pros

One of the best things about QB self employed was that I had everything organized at my fingertips all the time.

Cons

Unfortunately, the customer service on the product is abysmal. Everything has to be "escalated" to engineering and then they somehow not only fail to fix the problem but actually oftentimes manage to make it worse.

Reason for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

Because I was an idiot apparently.

February 21, 2019

It took me time, but I was able to use the program. I had to start over fresh 2 times before I could get my info in correctly to start working

Pros

The product allows you to be completely self sufficient, cut down costs and customize based upon your business. You can use preloaded categories or create your own.

Cons

If you are not familiar with using this type of software you may run into issues. There is help, but you can get very confused. Research is best before using the program for actually use.

### "Intuitive User Interface"

September 16, 2020

4.0

Overall, definitely worth using when it comes free with TurboTax.

Pros

This comes free when filing with TurboTax Self Employed, so it did not cost anything to set up. It's pretty intuitive and makes it easy to categorize transactions and spending.

Cons

Invoicing is not the greatest. It's difficult to configure it and make any changes. Customizing your invoices can be a real pain.
