Love Foundation Soft for the job costing abilities, the PM module is wonderful and of course PR, AR and AP. The way everything works together is perfect.

Pros

The customer service availability, training and education.

Cons

It can be a bit persnickety when it comes to connectivity. Seems to time out quickly if I am not consistently working in Foundation. That can be annoying.

Love the product, and the knowledgeable technical support team. Responses are quick and professional.

Pros

Foundation is designed for job costing in the construction industry. It also allows for all documents relating to a job to be stored in one place, making it easy to find everything related to a project in one place. Easily integrates with AIA invoicing and A/R management. Reports are professional and customizable and present a professional appearance to any who review them.

Cons

Some areas require a dual entry process. And some of the additional modules that are supposed to sync with Foundation tend to be a bit glitchy.

Cons

It's a little out dated. It looks and feels like a 40 year old program. It seems to require a lot of "clicks" and "okays"

Overall, I value Foundation for its accurate job costing, user-friendly interface, solid reporting tools, and the visibility it gives us into budgets, commitments, and project performance.

What I like the most is the ease of use, the ability to create customized reports with Data Genie, and the efficiency of customer support.

Cons

What I find challenging is that when we use custom formats, uploading them into the system and managing them is not as straightforward as using our standard lien releases or change order forms.

### "Accounting Software that needs an update"

Overall it has been a decent experience, many things left to be desired but does enough to keep our business going smoothly.

Pros

We like that Foundation offers an Equipment module that allows us to track items at the EQ level and by service code. Tracking fuel purchases against equipment is very important for grading companies and it appears most places like to do it at the GL level instead of equipment level so it is nice that it works directly in the system.

Cons

There is a large amount of inflexibility with Foundation. Custom reports are very limited and even though you capture a lot of information at all levels of operation there is not an easy to way to get the information you want. We also haven't seen a quality of life Software improvement in 7 years and it has largely stayed the same. Seems their preferred method of updates is to buy another software and try to bolt it on but still doesn't fix the underlying problem that the accounting system could use some updates.

Overall, it is a pretty good system and ultimately does the job that we need it to. We do have to manage a lot outside of our accounting system such as changes to employees' benefits.

Pros

I like that we can pull certified payrolls directly from the system. The customer service is mostly very good and helpful.

Cons

It is a bit clunky and hard to see the details without digging in further. Finding the information, you need can be difficult. I cannot pull cash basis reports. Certified payrolls are slow to print and save. They system doesn't keep historical information well.

Overall, what stood out most was that FOUNDATION clearly understands how construction companies actually operate, and it’s built more for financial accuracy and job control than surface‑level simplicity—which is often exactly what construction accounting teams need.

Pros

Excellent job costing depth FOUNDATION gives very strong visibility into budget vs. actuals, committed costs, change orders, and job profitability. It feels designed for people who live inside job cost reports every day.

Cons

Many users say the system is powerful but hard to learn, especially for new staff or non-accounting users. Basic tasks can require multiple screens and steps, which hurts efficiency early on.

I have used it for about 4 years (at a previous employer also) and it works well but definitely could be some necessary updates.

Pros

I like how well it works with the construction industry. It is very good as far as tracking hours in payroll.

Cons

The scrolling on reports is difficult. One of my biggest complaints is the length of time it takes to get a call from support. We recently started using document imaging and have run into several hurdles to prevent us from moving forward and have to wait a couple days for a call once logging a call.

Overall, our experience has been VERY positive! Foundation was the perfect, affordable solution to our growing pains.

Pros

I love the SUPPORT! Anytime I get stuck help is always just a phone call away! We have been able to utilize custom reports to get the data out exactly how we want it and the set up wasn't too bad (since we had great help!)

Cons

It doesn't do \*everything\* we want but it does so much more than Sage and it has shaved a huge burden off of our accounting department. On-boarding was really hard work - but it helped us get down into what we really needed and helped us get familiar with Foundation at the same time. We LOVED our onboarding specialist - \[sensitive content hidden\] She was the best teacher and we always looked forward to our time with her.

I have been using Foundation for the past 31 years. The software is very user friendly. The ease of running reports.

Pros

The ease at inputting info and viewing the reports. Keeping the software up to date. Customer Service is the best, they call back in a timely manner.

Cons

Not really a con - but it is a vast software and it can do so much - I am only use a fraction of its capability.

### "Pass if your business is heavy coding with accounting needs"

We originally wanted a construction coding and accounting software. This falls short on both. Once you have gotten through the initial training it can be pretty easy to use but the reporting side is absolute trash. I also have to say for the amount of money, you would think the overall look of the reports, checks, lists anything you print out would look a little more refined and professional...alas, not this software. Rudimentary.

Pros

Customer support is usually same day and specifically the backend support is amazing. They have a ton of videos for the basic troubleshooting.

Cons

This is a template structured software. You cannot specifically build it to your needs. Reports are super limited. Support to build reports is also limited. For a specialty construction software, I was so disappointed with details. This industry is structured to specifications; I feel the reporting from Foundation is not.

Overall, I've had a positive experience with Foundations. The software does take some getting used to, especially as an accountant and coming from a software such as quickbooks but once you get the hang of it it comes along pretty easily.

Pros

I like a lot of the integrated products that it offers. Customer Support is fantastic and great for when you need help doing things in the software.

Cons

The accounting software is difficult to use if you make mistakes and there are a lot of steps to undo and re-do transactions.

Foundations is so superior to what we had been using in quick books. QB was fine when our company was small but now that we have grown Foundations is what we need.

Pros

Once you get the hang of it, it is smooth sailing. The more you use the easier it is to remember all the steps you have to do.

Cons

Our training was really not up to par. We did talk to management and they helped us out alot. \[sensitive content hidden\] was fantastic with all our questions.

Foundation has great support and internal consultants which is a big plus. Core accounting functionality works as expected and is a huge leap forward for someone coming off of QuickBooks and looking for a construction specific accounting software

Pros

Foundation handles Multi-union and multi-state payroll processing very well and has the ability to do corrections which is huge. Most electronic reporting needs are met as well so certified reports can be uploaded.

Cons

Lack of an open and public API limits 3rd party apps. Foundation need to prioritize this as it has been promised for some time but now appears to be a closed API release "coming soon" with only their select vendors.

Overall good been using Foundation software since 2015 alot has changed, Used it with three contractors that i worked for. Fringe reports are helpful. I like the software overall, but adjust AR and AP invoices can be difficult sometimes because of the posting periods being closed. Job cost reports are helpfull. Payroll is time consuming with all the steps but i understand the process. Do not want to outsource payroll. i will be nice to be able to scan ap invoices in and not have to enter all the information.

Pros

Easy to navigate, real time reports for job costs and financials, billing is simple and can be emailed.

Cons

price has gone up, positive payreport can't be used, have to manually edit the report to upload to the bank. Quicker Ap entry or credit card use entry

My overall experience has been good. The support received when I have an issue is great. There was an issue with Payroll4Construction that took much longer than I felt necessary a couple of years ago but they have since sent out a more realistic timeline when it comes to correcting W2s.

Pros

Seamless transition with Payroll4Construction. This has made my job much easier and payroll takes way less time.

Cons

I would like more seamless transitions with modules like project management and estimating so we do not have to purchase separate products that work with Foundation. It would be nice to have 1 system that could handle all of the requirements a construction company needs. There was also a change made where if you have to do a back charge commitment instead of putting a negative number you have to put a negative one (-1) for the change order line and that is hard to remember when it has been awhile. I don't know why that makes more sense to some but it doesn't to me. Also sometimes when applying the commitment to invoices it says I am exceeding the PO amount when I am not. That makes it hard to tie everything back to the PO when the system is not recognizing that there is still money left. I have tripled checked that all my line items match the PO and it still says I am going over.

From my experience, Foundation Software is one of the strongest accounting systems out there for construction companies—especially those that depend on accurate job cost reporting, complex payroll, and tight cost tracking. It’s incredibly powerful and truly built with contractors in mind, but you do have to commit to solid processes and proper user training to get the most out of it. When your team understands job-cost accounting and stays consistent with workflows, Foundation really shines. But if you’re looking for something ultra-modern, cloud-native, and “effortless” to use, it can sometimes feel a bit rigid or dated.

Pros

Foundation has several great features-one of my favorites includes the ability to generate very detailed reports with drill down features. The software is easy to use and learn, plus it comes with helpful links to research the topics I need help with.

Cons

There are not many features I do not like about Foundation; if I had to pick one, it would be the view of the interface. Although it has a simple and straightforward design, it does tend to feel outdated.

Customer service is 99% of the time pleasant and helpful. Have always assisted and usually walk away with more information than I expected to assist with utilizing Foundation more easily.

Pros

Foundation is a useful tool. As a newer user, with 1 year history, I find that the basic AP and AR functions are easy to learn. The payroll is still an aspect of the program that I find has lots and lots of steps to process payroll. I like all the options or additional functions that are available, but the added costs of each function prohibits our company from reviewing or even adding the additional functions.

Cons

Payroll processing has a lot of steps. Would like to see a more informative how to for setting up the payroll and processing payroll. Wish the reports(Genie) would be more simple to produce.

I would rate our experience as a 10 out of 10. Having looked into 4 other construction softwares, I've never regretted selecting Foundation.

Pros

The support team is outstanding! Always so incredibly patient and helpful! I'm very impressed with the level of expertise they have. Very much appreciate that payroll calls for assistance are given priority.

Cons

Waiting for a call-back, while knowing how busy you are at times. I realize that it would be impossible to estimate how long it would take for a response.

### "Honest Foundation Review! "

Pros

I like the functionality of Foundation. The Document Management is really helpful - especially with the volume of payables and documents we're housing. I really like the layout of the windows itself. Working in and out of other software makes me realize how nicely laid out Foundation is.

Cons

I wish there was a support chat feature or a way to schedule a support call at a specific time. It's frustrating sometimes needing to wait on support to call you back which can take up to a day - especially when it's something urgent.

### "Excellent Customer Service"

My experience with Foundation has been great. I have had to call them on several occasions for help correcting an error or questions about the software. Their customer service is top-notch! They walked me through everything I needed to do!

Pros

Foundation has the best customer service by far that I have ever dealt with. Everyone is very knowledgeable and helpful!

Cons

There is nothing about Foundation Software that I don't like. I can't think of anything that they need to improve on.
