The way everything works together is perfect. Pros The customer service availability, training and education. Cons It can be a bit persnickety when it comes to connectivity. Seems to time out quickly if I am not consistently working in Foundation. That can be annoying. The customer service is by far the best I have encountered in a long time. These two points make Foundation worth the cost for the efficiencies it has brought. As a site development and underground utility contractor, we rely on accurate job costing, payroll tracking, equipment management, AP/AR, and project reporting, and Foundations helps keep everything organized in one place. One of the biggest benefits is the ability to track labor, equipment, and job costs in real time, giving management better visibility into project performance and profitability. The reporting features are robust, and the software is designed with the construction industry in mind rather than trying to force a generic accounting system to fit our needs. The field logs, payroll integration, project management tools, and accounting modules help streamline operations and improve communication between the office and field teams. We have found that the more data we consistently enter, the more valuable the reporting becomes for estimating future projects and monitoring current ones. It seems like anything we want to do is a custom report or an add on. Pros The support team is amazing and they are quisk to respond. The software is easy to navigate and user friendly. Cons The Executive Dashboard is not robust or customizable. I don't like that PR is geared towards Unions. I don't like that you can't edit an invoice's basic information like description or accounting date without having to void the entire transaction. It was expensive and we felt Foundation was easier to use. Switched from [Sage Intacct](https://www.capterra.com/p/76/Intacct/) Integration. The Sage Project Management module was seperate and they had invoicing going from the PM module to Accounting. It was a mess and you couldn't get a decent report. We also struggled to set up payroll. With prevailing wage, there were so many layers that had to be built and it was extreemly confusing and I have been doing payroll for 20 years. Our training was thorough and the team was wonderful. The customer service is the best!! I like that I don't have to have all the modules offered but can add them at anytime. We also use other FOUNDATION products like Vendrix for credit cards, WorkMax for time tracking, and HRHQ. Having everything connected makes a big difference. Credit card transactions flow into the system, field time from WorkMax ties into payroll and job costs, and HRHQ helps keep employee information organized. The cost of the software is a great value for the capabilities of the software and it room for growth that has allowed us to scale up in our business. Cons We are opting in to new products/add Ons as Foundation has been offering them such HRHQ, Foundation Pay, Safety HQ. There have been growing pains and sometime these have been clunky or down. I would hope that Foundation allocates more resources to these new products to help ensure that they are successful and we can continue to utilize them. It has saved hours of entry and reporting, especially at month and year end! Pros Foundation is a great fit for a small to midsized business that needs more than a Quickbooks type program can offer, but not as much as the expensive and big ERP systems. In Foundation you have several billing types to choose from depending on the needs of your customers. The drill down feature from reports easily give you the detail you need. Document imaging let's you scan and store documents so that they are at your fingertips. No more huge filing cabinets. Great customer service. Cons There is not a function that I've found yet that I dislike. We have been using Foundation since 2018 and still find ways to tweak our operating processes. We have been able to utilize custom reports to get the data out exactly how we want it and the set up wasn't too bad (since we had great help!) Cons It doesn't do \*everything\* we want but it does so much more than Sage and it has shaved a huge burden off of our accounting department. On-boarding was really hard work - but it helped us get down into what we really needed and helped us get familiar with Foundation at the same time. There are several things I would change from an accounting perspective but it is a good system for construction if you use it correctly. Pros Customer support, Certified Payroll, Union Reporting, Data Genie reports, Overall it is a very integrated system. Cons \-Lack of ability to pay subs based on pay-when-paid. UPB has some good bones set up but it does not tie to AP to pay vendors well. Payments have to be tracked outside the system. -UPB does not allow retainage paid to be applied so the Project Status Paid Report at the end of a project always shows an unpaid balance. If you have an issue and seek guidance from their customer service representative chances are you will have to figure it out yourself. Pros Foundations makes Payroll corrections easy to accomplish and I also that you can create and customize your own reports. Cons Their customer service takes a long time to respond and their representatives are not very knowledgeable about all aspects of the program. Monthly/Quarterly and Year End are made easier with Foundation. Pros I really liked the easiness of learning the basics to run our accounting for construction. The customer support is very quick to respond and answer any of my questions. The software allows me to easily manage our AIA invoicing with general contractors which makes billing and receiving in payments easy. Cons I haven't really found any cons - only that there is so much more the software can do then I am aware of this time without taking on some actual training courses. Chief Accountant Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "K&R Review" June 17, 2026 5.0 Day to day operation works great and we have no complaints on our daily operations working out of Foundaiton. We are able to train any new hires quickly on how to use the major modules like accounts payable. We can also make Foundation work in a way and customize aspects of it that works for our company. Pros Modules are easy to use and flow in a way that makes sense. The reports Foundaton gives you access to covers almost any information that you may need to pull. And if the report you need is not there, you can typically make a customized report for what you need. Customer support has a good response time of typically a few hours to a day depending on the severity of the issue. Talking with customer support is easy and helpful. Cons Updates to Foundation come on a regular basis, which is great, but sometimes the items your company are looking for to be updated are not addressed until later updates. The new year update (V26.0.0) was one that didn't come out until January 8th which included 2026 tax tables. I would have hoped was released prior to the start of 2026. Core accounting functionality works as expected and is a huge leap forward for someone coming off of QuickBooks and looking for a construction specific accounting software Pros Foundation handles Multi-union and multi-state payroll processing very well and has the ability to do corrections which is huge. Most electronic reporting needs are met as well so certified reports can be uploaded. Cons Lack of an open and public API limits 3rd party apps. Foundation need to prioritize this as it has been promised for some time but now appears to be a closed API release "coming soon" with only their select vendors. I've learned so much about not only the software but the business because of it. The customer service is excellent. Pros I like that all your administrative processes can happen in one place; receivables, payables, and payroll with those areas also posting to the job costing module without double entries. I like the information given and the forms available. I think it has included capabilities we aren't even utilizing yet. I also like that it's tailored to highway contractors and the extra reporting needed on those projects. Cons Ease of use. It definitely takes time to learn and understand. It's a solid product and I appreciate the constant development Foundation does. I can't wait to see what the future brings. Pros Foundation runs rather smooth and is relatively user-friendly, which is a big plus for an ERP. Since we are a construction company, and like to provide job costing related reports to our VPs, so we appreciate it's respect for those aspects. There are several functions within that provide us an easy thorough process such as billing. Cons There are a few things that make completing our processes lengthy, or just more difficult in general. First, accessing invoices and/or attachments seems to be tiresome sometimes. Secondly, there seems to be a few too many steps to complete for logging a payment.
