Unless software is custom designed, which is usually cost prohibitive for a smaller operation, specific construction issues like union pay and WIP calculations can usually not be addressed with a standard accounting software package. Pros Union payroll processing, certified payroll and EEO reporting options, construction cost accounting and WIP Moving to the hosted (cloud) option has improved performance of our systems and eliminated the need to "update" our server and workstations manually Cons I do wish foundation would allow for a better audit trail reporting, for both transactions and changes in maintenance records. It has been a great step up but not something that is too overwhelming. It allows for better reports, better WIP schedules, and an easier process. We love using Foundation. I have also attended a few online classes and the Foundation COllege last year in San Antonio. It was full of great tools and allows for customers to use the software to a higher level. Pros When I have a problem, I get an answer fast. I talk to someone based in the US & they are helpful. They get back to you fast. If they cannot get you an answer then, they will get back to you. You are never let without an answer. Cons If an error is made there are too many steps to correct the error, like many accounting programs. FOr example, you cannot just go into an invoice and add a PO that you missed, you have to reverse the invoice to make that correction. Which then results in a new INV#. Not a big issues but can cause issues later one with Customers using the wrong INV#. Customer service is always helpful. Online access to Foundation client allows us to search for FAQ's to help immediately. Pros We use several modules of Foundation Software. The Unit Price Bid Module is the best in my opinion with WorkMax coming in 2nd. This software is Perfect for the construction industry. Cons We are cloud based and we are logged out several times during the day. This interrupts our daily usage of the software. There is not a rhyme or reason to the times we are logged out automatically. I think we will eventually outgrow it and need an ERP with more capabilities and automation built in. Cons I wish we could do detailed purchase orders in Foundation for more detailed accounts payable and job costing. I also wish we could have bank feeds connected and automated account reconciliations. Pros The detailed features for job costing to appropriately allocate all costs based on the type, area, job, etc. Cons Not being able to create custom reports outside of the job costing module. Would like to see more custom reporting options for other modules. The customer service is by far the best I have encountered in a long time. These two points make Foundation worth the cost for the efficiencies it has brought. Cons Lack of drill downs in all reports. I like the functionality of being able to drill down from P&L and BS. They are always willing to help me and resolve any issue I have. Their data management is very thorough and great at keeping our business financial data organized. Pros I love the full service experience for managing my company's financial tasks. A/P, A/R, Job Costing, Payroll are the services I utilize most. They also have fantastic customer service and education. Cons I don't like that the Foundation Connect sometimes takes a while to respond. I also do not like the format they use to make the actual invoices/statements designs in the Data Genies. It's a little outdated and difficult to use. Pros I love their Customer Support. Whenever I have a problem that I am not sure how to fix, they are awesome. Cons I really don't have any CONS, I would say if you are use to Quickbooks and programs like that, you might have a little bit of a learning curve. It is functional and allows me to track expenses and issue invoices, but I feel like it is the bare minimum one could expect from a piece of construction accounting software. Pros To get a construction focused accounting product at the price point seems fair. To have access to job tracking, cost code tracking and equipment tracking out of the box is attractive. Additionally, the AIA invoicing is a must for any contractor working on larger jobs. Cons The almost non-existent, non communicative customer service. You need to be willing to submit a ticket via a portal without any external confirmation or record of the ticket and then sit by your phone waiting for a response that may take days to come. Further, there is no mechanism to escalate a ticket in the event that you have encountered a downtime scenario. A tie for lack of customer service is the reporting functionality. Be prepared to export everything to Excel and manipulate the data from there. While you will have access to large swaths of your data in the reporting tool, it takes time and experience to get anything meaningful and very little of it is presentation worthy.
