No, let's be realistic here... 11 out of 10. Faultless. NVivo? It's a no-no! Pros So, many of the seminal textbooks eulogise about NVivo. Well, I can tell you that by comparison, Delve is exponentially superior. If you are looking for a platform to transcribe your MS Word document into coded Thematic Analysis data, look no further. Ideal for Master's level dissertations, research projects, and any other similar uses. I have experienced no security or ethical issues and received excellent 'real-time' customer service when I became 'stuck'. Without Delve, I worry that my final dissertation would not be submitted by its due date. Thank you to Kate in customer service. What an amazing value-for-money (almost priceless) product. Thank you. Cons Nothing to report. My experience of Delve to date leaves me lost for words, way short of the character count! The cost was so generous for a student novice and the sales, admin, user-ease were all fantastic. I have honestly really loved working with Delve. Pros Delve stood out in the market for being really intuitive and easy to use. There were a lot of other options available but they all seemed a bit intense and complicated. For a novice, I really appreciated Delve's simplicity and I wasn't disappointed: and it took me about two minutes to understand so I could begin my analysis immediately. It is really seamless and elegant to work with. A true pleasure - if it's possible to say that of thematic analysis! Cons On user-friendliness you won't be disappointed. It's a dream to operate. If you need very advanced coding technologies and AI generated codes then you might want to try a different option. But for my MA this is great. I am grateful for Delve as a data analysis tool that proved to be as the developers claimed: very intuitive with reliable support. Pros Delve was easy for me to figure out in my first experience at qualitative data analysis for my doctoral research project. When I did run into an issue, support was super responsive and helpful. I found Delve to be extremely intuitive for me as an inexperienced researcher. So did at least one other colleage in my cohort. Several features were incredibly helpful, such as the search function. Cons I cannot think of anything about Delve that was not useful or least helpful. I only have fond memories of how easily Delve enable me to complete my data analysis. I am grateful for the thoughtfulness that you all have clearly put into teaching and user-friendliness. Pros The videos that accompany the program guide you through its use step by step. That was amazing! The price was amazing as well. Struggling students don't have 100s of dollars to dedicate to programs. This one was so affordable. Cons It was pretty bland. I wish I could have color-coded some things to help with data fatigue. The price makes up for this, but it was the one thing I wish were different. Pros The site is easy to use, and it is accompanied by how-to videos guiding the researchers on the coding process. It has a collaborative function which enables online, remote team work. Whenever you need help, you can click the customer support buttom to chat, and they answer quite rapidly. The data is secure in the site. The price is reasonable when it comes to having an institutional account. It is a lot easier to approach qualitative data because one can manage to categorize in a smooth way. Cons Overall, I liked it a lot. I wish it were a far more cheaper, so more people could benefit from its use. I will definitely use Delve again for any future projects. Pros Delve was very easy to use and made completing my dissertation very straightforward. I looked at several similar products but Delve was the most user friendly and best value for the money. The ability to drag my codes around to organize them in various ways was very helpful. The "How to" videos also made the process simple and the coding tutorial was honestly better than the textbook sources I used. Cons I didn't really have any cons with Delve. I guess if there was anything that I would have liked to have is the ability to print my work organized by codes/categories with the extracted quotes included. I was analyzing transcripts from 50 hour-long interviews and it had the power and capacity for me to code my data without weird delays or tech issues and the tools were exactly what I needed. I also appreciated their resource library. While I am not new to qualitative research, their guidance on how to use Delve for my purposes was clear and effective. Pros Delve was incredibly easy to use. I've used NVivo in the past for qualitative data analysis and it's hard to set up, the UI is difficult to navigate and the platform unreliable, but Delve was none of those things. It was incredibly easy to import and manage my data and then go about the coding for my research project. The search functions and categorization tools were straightforward and effective for my data analysis needs. And last, the incorporation of AI was an added bonus. Cons The only thing that created any friction was the price, but honestly, I think the tool offers the functionality to warrant the monthly fee. I could go on. I approached this phase in my dissertation with much anxiety over not knowing what or how to do the analysis and this platform removed that concern after the second day of using it. My professor was impressed with the level of detail I achieved in my analysis and commented on the connections I made within my data. Pros This platform was very easy to navigate and get started on my project the same day I signed up. I liked having to create my own codes because it enabled me to become more familiar with my data (interview transcripts) and recognize connections within the information I may have missed if automatic or AI coding was used. I believe this saved me a lot of time in this area of my dissertation. Cons I can't think of anything I would change or that I disliked about the entire experience. Unlike other tools that can feel overwhelming or overly technical, Delve supported my workflow without interrupting it. I appreciated being able to engage deeply with the content, knowing the platform was facilitating, not complicating my thinking. Overall, Delve proved to be a straightforward yet powerful tool for qualitative research. I would highly recommend it to researchers working with complex, culturally rich data who value clarity, usability, and a well-designed coding environment. I have shared my experience and shown others, both here at Reading University and at other universities where I have presented at conferences, so they can consider Delve for themselves. Pros I used Delve to analyse twelve one-hour interviews with heritage school leaders from a range of cultural backgrounds. The data was rich, nuanced, and deeply contextual, requiring a tool that could support thoughtful, systematic analysis without adding technical complexity. Delve delivered exactly that. One of the most impressive aspects of Delve is its intuitive coding interface. The visual layout made it easy to organise and refine codes, helping me stay focused on the data rather than the mechanics of the software. This was particularly valuable when working with detailed qualitative material from heritage language schools, where clarity and structure are essential. Cons At the time, I found separating the codes into themes and subthemes just a little time-consuming. I reverted to doing this by hand. This was because I had over 300 codes and over 2000 snippets, which was exceptionally rich data.
