The "outsourced HR" platform TriNet offers is the right decision for our small business so we don't have to invest in internal HR personnel. Pros TriNet helps us manage payroll, talent acquisition and retention, support for our employees, access to "big company" benefits and helps our management team with proactive risk mitigation and data compliance. Cons TriNet is expensive and the support we received for our company 401(k) plan was not good. October 20, 2025 4.0 TriNet is very user friendly, easy to navigate and great for a small business. It is intuitive and somewhat customizable. I can't say it was a great value for money. For less costs, we could have switched to UKG. We ended up leaving them for ADP due to having multiple companies that we needed to manage that TriNet was just not capable of doing under one dashboard. Pros I used TriNet when it was still Zenefits. Overall, I think the software was very easy to use for payroll and employee pay, benefits administration, performance reporting and tracking, onboarding, and employee management. I will say, the program was easy to navigate, which allowed for a very minimal learning curve, which I appreciated. Cons I would not recommend TriNet if you have multiple companies that you need to manage within one system. This made payroll management and running reports quite the ordeal. I had to run the same report, in each company profile, and then combine the data. When you're doing this for 8 companies, it can be annoying. The other thing about TriNet was the payroll compliance issues. It would take a representative FOREVER to acknowledge receipt and then even longer for an answer. The low employee minimum made them accessible when we were just starting out. However, the cost became hard to justify as we grew, and their inflexibility when we temporarily dropped below minimums forced us to switch. Good starter solution for EU companies entering the US market, but be aware of the price premium and contractual requirements. Pros Allowed us to run payroll for our US subsidiary starting at a low number of employees, which was critical as a German company expanding to the US. Benefits integration worked well and saved us from managing multiple vendors. Cons Extremely expensive per employee. Software felt clunky and dated. Most critically, don't dip below their employee minimum. It is easy to navigate and user friendly. Pros Trinet is very user friendly and easy to navigate. When I first started my new job the onboarding process was fairly straightforward. Navigating their platform since intuitive. I know right where to look for benefits, time off, expenses, etc. Cons While the onboarding process was straightforward, the method of choosing health plans and dental plans was more difficult. It allowed you to review everything and select your preferred, but then I had to remember what I selected and deselect at a later stage, making it difficult. There are some things not as clear on the back end too. For example, if you are not assigned an approved for your business expenses, and you submit an expense report, nobody at the company is notified and the report somewhat disappears. I use this daily and the fact that I can access my pay stubs easily is a Big PLUS. I'd definitely recommend TriNet to others. Pros I'd have to say that the one thing I like about TriNet is how user friendly it can be and the perks that they have. I know companies that use and love TriNet, it just didn't work for the business needs at the time. Pros TriNet had great customer service and we had a great account manager for HR related items. The system was fairly easy to use. Cons It didn't support our international organization the way we hoped it would've. Also, the system wasn't as intuitive as you wanted it to be for certain processes. It was mostly used for HRIS data and payroll and wasn't as great as expected. Pros I liked that everything was all on the home page and there was a chat feature that I used quite often. Campus Ambassador Computer Software Used the software for: I used a free trial ### "TriNet reviews " February 22, 2025 5.0 Overall good. Here's another example. Several months ago I began experiencing issues connecting to their I-9 certification service. I reported the issue which was related to weak encryption (and a Chrome update that refused to connect to the insecure server.) Nothing was done. A month went by and an update to Firefox prevented it from connecting as well. I escalated the issue, but nothing was done. It's been three months now and there's no ETA on the fix. Pros We've been a TriNet customer for 4 months so far, and I wouldn't recommend them to my friends or enemies. While our customer service rep has been very helpful, I have yet to successfully onboard a new employee (0 out of 5 so far) without a problem that requires reaching out to customer support. Problems that I've reported when we first joined and have followed up on regularly have never been addressed. The single worst part of TriNet is its website, and it is also what you, as a customer, will interact with most frequently. It will throw errors, lose your entered information, refuse to load, and make your life miserable. Even something as simple as entering a new employee will take hours and require back and forth with customer support to figure out why the SSN you entered was replaced by a system-generated dummy one and is preventing your new employee from logging in. It is simple to learn and provided good functionality for onboarding employees and processing payroll. It was also one of the first HRIS platforms I learned how to use. However, I do think that the customer service needs to be improved as it can sometimes be difficult to get a hold of a representative and you might not always get a straight answer. Pros Great payroll processing functionality and transparency, easy to navigate. Selecting benefits was also simple and platform had great guides to follow for instructions. I don't have enough time to list them all but here are the highlights: (1) They have made several serious mistakes in payroll that caused my and my team countless lost hours. (2) They no longer have a personal rep who knows your account, you now have to go through "Connect 360." I was just in a chat session and the rep said "hold on, while I research your issue" and then the chat timed out because of no activity. No one followed up with me. Now I have to start all over with someone else who has no idea what they're talking about. Have you ever worked with Comcast before? Do you love their support? Well, now you can get the same robotic and ill informed support from TriNet. I could go on. We are in the process of moving away from TriNet as quickly as we can. Pros I have found nothing that I like about TriNet. Cons When I was "sold" on using TriNet I wasn't told that their technology was some of the worst I had seen. They did upgrade some of the web software but there are still places where you click and find yourself in the old horrible software that is klunky and difficult to use. Also, it was very cost effective. Pros This was one of the easiest apps to train people on. Even those staunch pencil pushers really like how easy it was to scan receipts from the mobile app and it would automatically sync with the desktop app, I loved the fact that it was compatible with QuickBooks desktop when we were using it and it saved us hours of keying in the information. It had cut the expense processing time by at least 2/3. Cons I was really upset when TriNet decided not to support QB desktop and now supports QB online only. We have to have the desktop version of QB due to our inventory tracking system not available in QB Online. I had to terminate our contract with TriNet. Also, they did not have customizable reporting 3 years ago. Not sure if they do now or not. Review Source aC amanda C. We've received help with any issue that came up pretty promptly. Cons There have been a number of issues we've experienced with Trinet, mostly around employees going on leaves of absence. However, they have changed their customer service model, and we are not happy with the changes they have made. Pros I really liked the personal service TriNet used to provide. However, they have changed their Customer Service model to more of a call center instead of having two people assigned to each client. The main thing was that everything was accessible through the single dashboard which makes all the difference. Pros I liked that all employee benefits were under the trinet system. I have used other systems where health stuff may be viewed from one dashboard but let's say you want to look at your commuter benefits, that may be in another system from some other company. Trinet had everything under a single website/dashboard and I only needed to remember that one login. Cons The UI could be made better.
