Our overall experience with LexisNexis Newsdesk is highly positive. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to professionals who would be interested in this service.

Pros

LexisNexis Newsdesk aggregates open Web content into one convenient portal that is easily distributed, analysed and visualised. Our communication departments stay in the know, find news quickly, share current awareness where we need it the most and monitor trends with ease. This enables us to identify insights and take action in a proactive manner. It enables intuitive data visualisation that is easy to understand and present.

Cons

The software has a steep learning curve, but tutorials and the help settings clear up any ambiguity.

Overall experience has been positive. The best media monitoring tool around!

Pros

User friendly, easy setup, easy search tools, you name it!

Cons

The graphs probably. I don’t hate them, but it’s not super useful to me.

Pros

It's a Lexis Nexis Product which is a well-known system and interface. I have used Lexis for years, and I trust the brand enough to experiment with their new products. I like this one. Allows you to remain abreast of news and trends across the internet relating to your business or subject.

Cons

Lexis will cost you. Point Blank Period . Although it's worth every penny. It will cost you a few pennies..

It was informative and it was a better way to run information from and car accident and have the information from the drivers involved.

Pros

I received a sheet with the customer information from the accident and all I had to do was type their name into the computer system to get a price for LexisNexis and the law office that made the request.

Cons

Some information was missing from the report and I had to send it back because LexisNexis didn't match with our system so we didn't get paid for that report because we couldn't find it and price it.

Reasons for choosing Nexis Newsdesk

It was better with our system and it works without problems.

I worked with Lexis Nexis as a Credit and Collections manager with CenturyLink, before coming to APS Payroll where we also use it. It was very helpful in connecting the dots regarding customers with bad debt - customers who tried to use fake identities.

Pros

Risk assessment - I was able to pull documents showing addresses for a person / people who claimed that they were not responsible for outstanding bills.

Cons

I really did not have something I didn't like. It is expensive but I appreciate the value.

I use LexisNexis daily - so it is a great tool to check out the soundness of business entities.

Pros

LexisNexis is a powerful verification tool. There are many reports that are provided to evaluate an individual or a business entity. The interface is very user friendly. Using the software is very easy. Customer service is easy to reach and usually gives a great turnaround and response.

Cons

Some of the error reporting messages are not clear nor accurate. Home phone does not equal cell phone and 99.9% of all consumers use a wireless phone and not a landline. If a business entity is too new - their database most likely will not be able to find it. Their database is refreshed on a particular cycle and not on demand.

I was involved in a project to search for negative news stories for businesses that submitted themselves for an annual award. These were smaller, regional businesses. We used LexisNexis Newsdesk to search for articles related to the businesses. We used multiple negative search terms (e.g., lawsuit, bankruptcy, corrupt, trial) combined with the names of the businesses to try and locate negative articles about the businesses competing for the annual award.

Pros

I like how you can search by name of company, then add more search terms (e.g., synonyms for the same topic or phrase, using Boolean operators in parentheses) to make searches more specific. I like how you can filter results by time period. I like how articles are retrieved from various news wires and not just the major outlets (AP, UPI).

Cons

Often the same news story is displayed in the results, sometimes with minor updates. This can slow down compiling a bibliography, in that you need to weed out repetitious articles.

I love it. It is a great database that makes my life easier.

Pros

It is hard to imagine research without Lexis, this is an essential part of my research and through the many years I have been using it the database continues to improve.

Cons

I think that the one element that still needs improvement is the search option between the different parts of lexis.

Pros

It is user-friendly such that it's very easy to setup searches and alerts / newsletters. It has a useful help page that shows us all the Boolean operators so we can finetune our searches. It has a very wide news and publication coverage around the world, which is good when you need to monitor a wide range of issues/news. It's search engine is effective and can search out relevant articles using keywords that we are looking for. I like that there is no limit to the number of articles you can search.

Cons

The system can be costly as you need to pay to search for articles beyond 90 days (and even then there's a limit as to how far back you can search), and if you wish to have many newsletters (above the basic number) to send articles to your users. There's also a limit of 25 max licensed articles that you can send the full text on email.
