I utilized Ant Media Server to develop a visual logic engine focused on real-time video intelligence. It served as an incredibly reliable backbone for managing WebRTC streams, allowing for fluid, asynchronous integration with AI models like Gemini. The platform delivered exactly the performance and reliability needed for an intensive, high-stakes development sprint, keeping stream latency virtually unnoticeable.

Pros

What I liked most is its ultra-low latency WebRTC streaming capabilities. When building applications that require real-time video intelligence and seamless integration with large language models, low latency is critical. Ant Media Server handled complex, real-time visual logic workflows exceptionally well without bottlenecking the system. The stream stability and ease of integration into a modern tech stack (like TypeScript and React) were outstanding.

Cons

While the core features are excellent, the documentation for highly advanced, edge-case architectural configurations could be slightly more comprehensive. This is especially true when integrating heavily customized multi-agent orchestration directly with the streams. However, the community and core guides are usually enough to figure it out.

The reason I’m running ANT Media Server on an Akamai VPS is that I have a major streaming project coming up in a few weeks where the media server will need to run non-stop for two days. So far, I’m very pleased with its stability, and I’ll soon see how ANT Media Server performs in a real-world scenario. I’ll have the test setup ready next week, and I don’t expect any issues.

Pros

I used AI to find a solution for a low-latency, high-quality video streaming setup. I quickly settled on ANT Media Server in combination with an Akamai VPS. Since I don’t need the media server very often, I really appreciate that I can choose a plan where I only pay for uptime by the hour. This keeps the service flexible for me without incurring costs when I’m not streaming. The customer support is also great. I feel like I’m taken seriously as a customer, even though I’m on a pay-per-hour subscription.

Cons

I did run into some issues setting up AMS, because I simply don’t have enough knowledge about streaming to understand all the protocols. But that was quickly resolved by a helpful AMS representative who was eager to assist me with this.

Overall, I’ve had a very positive experience. The Community Edition gave me everything I needed to get started with real-time streaming, and it performed better than expected. Because of that, I’m planning to upgrade to access more advanced features and scale my projects further.

Pros

Low-latency streaming works really well and is reliable. The Community Edition already includes a lot of useful features, which made it easy to test and build projects without upfront cost. Setup is simple, and the web interface is straightforward to use. WebRTC performance is especially impressive.

Cons

Some advanced features are only available in paid versions. Documentation can be a bit limited for more complex use cases, and there’s no dedicated support in the free plan.

It's very easy to use and I'm glad it's packed with as many features as it has. It's free but has some features of expensive paid apps. You're getting great value. I never needed support, that means it's quite easy to use or you can easily find what you need online. All in all I'm happy to be a user.

Pros

Ant Media Server is a solid choice if you’re building anything that needs real-time live video on the web. I personally love the fact I can stream to it and it will stream to multiple locations saving resources on my streaming computer.

Cons

I wished I had the paid version for low latency WebRTC. However the streams I'm using are only behind by 5-10 seconds which in reality isn't so bad.

The RTMP and WebRTC setup in min and the HLS link in one click the UI feels interactive, and also API integration makes it semless

Cons

Crashes several times, when ever it left stranded or overload manual reboot required to start the server again

For live sports broadcasting, Ant Media Server covered everything we needed: multi-stream support, reliable recording, live support, and VOD playback. The time from setup to live was minimal. The lack of chunked MP4 recording is a gap worth knowing about if your workflow depends on segmented files. Still a solid choice for event organizers who need a dependable streaming solution without a steep learning curve.

Pros

We ran 5 simultaneous live streams for a gymnastics competition with ~10 concurrent viewers per stream. Everything worked smoothly out of the box — setup was fast, streams were stable throughout the event, and the built-in recording saved all sessions directly to disk without any extra configuration. Having live support available during the event was reassuring, and the playback/history feature meant we could share recordings with athletes and coaches immediately after.

Cons

No native support for chunked recording — we needed 2-minute MP4 segments per stream for post-event editing, but Ant Media Server saves each stream as a single continuous file. This required additional post-processing to split recordings, which added unwanted steps to our workflow.
