Even though it's not as user-friendly as some other software, I do think it is the best tool you have to make sure students are staying on track. You can close tabs if they've gone to a game or website they aren't supposed to be on, you can chat separately with them or send an Announcement to everyone, you can create different "scenes" that block some websites but let through others. It's really a great way to let students work without you peering over their shoulders constantly. Pros I love that I can easily check a student's progress and chat with them. I love user-friendly software, and it's pretty easy. Cons Not everything is user-friendly, you have to click around a bit to figure out how to create scenes and such. Through it, my class is more efficient, more on topic, and better focused. In an era of education where every student uses a device, GoGuardian is quickly becoming essential. Pros GoGuardian does an excellent job of allowing me to monitor and have some control over the devices of my students. The monitoring itself is great, but my favorite parts of GoGuardian are the automatic and manual tab controls. At certain times throughout the day (start of lessons), I can have specific tabs automatically open and others not be allowed. These small controls help my classes to run much more smoothly. Cons GoGuardian has a bit of a habit of slowing down, freezing, or being unreliable. Though this has considerably improved in the last year, there are still lessons in which it is unavailable or experiencing slow downs. This used to be a larger concern and doesn't happen much anymore, but it is still very inconvenient when it happens. I know that there are issues and nothing works perfectly all the time, but the dependability of the product is really important. Pros GoGuardian is extremely user friendly. I sent one text to a teacher saying, go to this site and login this way. I then stopped in an hour later and she was chatting with students, setting up scenes, locking kids out of their devices. She needed no training. BUT if there is a need, they also have amazing tutorials to show how to do things. Cons Its great, but we do seem to have students that can figure out ways around it. Switched from [LanSchool](https://www.capterra.com/p/118526/LanSchool/) LanSchool was harder to roll out and seemed to always be a struggle getting teachers to use. It is key to success when students are one to one with devices! Pros I love that I am able to activate a scene to keep students on task. I like being able to monitor online use and have the information all in one place for parents and admin to be able to see how students are using technology. Cons I wish you could set scenes on a time frame so they auto turned off. I especially like to monitor students when they are typing essays. I can read it quickly and send a chat message with feedback. I also like the chat feature because I am able to discreetly communicate with students about their work or lack thereof. I also like the reports that generate when the session ends. I like that I can see what websites students visited while on the computer. Cons One thing I do not like about GoGuardian is that it lets students know when I turn it on. Of course, when they know that I am looking they change the page so I cannot see what they were doing. I would like to see who is consistently following the rules without giving notice that I am checking. Also, I don't like that workarounds exist so that students can do things which will not show up on the GoGuardian screen. They are able to display a different screen or appear offline when they are not. This needs to be fixed. Overall classroom safety has been improved and students stay focused on the tasks at hand. Pros Before using GoGuardian, it was nearly impossible to monitor what students were accessing on their computers. Even if I continuously walked around the room monitoring, by the time I reached their desks they'd simply close the tab, or close the computer. Making accusations when I suspect misbehavior isn't an option. If I can simply look at my computer monitor and quickly give students a warning, the situation is easily resolved. It's a game-changer. One of my colleagues even went so far as to install angled mirrors to see student activity on the devices. It was very low-tech and not very effective.GoGuardian is a game changer. I now have a complete and efficient system that enables me to effectively monitor and support student progress. Pros I really like how easy GoGuardian is to use. I just sign on with my google account, choose my classes, and then I am able to monitor student activity and progress. I also like the way that I can see various types of data pertaining to student activity...from actual websites visited, time browsing and actual time on task. I can also see a timeline of the student activity and I have a record of the timeline. Cons I would really like to have a button or quick switch to lock all devices. Maybe it is there already, but I haven't figured it out. I would also like a little more detail when viewing student timelines.
