Web Content Manager Consumer Goods Used the software for: 2+ years ### "We have saved hours upon hours of work" December 7, 2022 5.0 Overall, the TextExpander is an indispensable resource for us - without it, our teams would run at a snail's pace. This allows us to answer queries in seconds with just a few quick keystrokes. While there are definitely tons of opportunities for improvement - I don't see us getting rid of this any time soon. Pros What's not to love?! We have saved over 1000 shortcuts for so many of our customer related inquiries, product knowledge, work flow processes, etc. It really does cut down on so much time. I mainly used this in my previous role, but even in my new one I'm still saving hours each week (I get the report, so I know!). Cons It does get buggy every now and then. Right now, for example, I'm unable to edit/create shortcuts within the app and have to actually go to the website to do so. I also wish there was a better sorting feature. " October 15, 2020 5.0 The whole concept was foreign to me when I first started using it, but after a short while, it becomes a routine, and then a few months later -- you will never, ever, ever be without it again for the rest of your professional life. If you find yourself typing things over and over again, you must have this app. It is simply awesome!!! Pros This software makes me super productive and saves me SO. MUCH. TIME. I love it and I love showing people how it works -- it blows their mind that you can produce 500 words of a pre-written response by typing a tiny code! This is the best kept secret out there for productivity. Cons There isn't a lot I don't like about this software! The only bad thing happened when I subscribed to some user groups and received weird messages. I just unsubscribed and they were gone. It’s an essential part of my daily workflow. Pros This app saves me so much time in generating content so I don’t have to constantly type the same things over and over. In fact, the app enables me to create content once and use it endlessly in different ways. It’s a huge time-saver! Cons Sometimes, snippets don’t seamlessly work from one platform to another. Sometimes, the snippets produce weird results depending on the app I’m using at the time. While I like it’s use of AppleScript to create executable actions, I wish more had been focused on how to customize and call up different snippets in various contexts. In an effort to sound less robotic, we're able to add different salutations and provide contextual information in our shortcuts, while saving time and increasing efficiency. The product was so successful in my launch that it has been adopted or considered for review with other departments and projects. Pros Easy to create snippets, easy to export (and import), great rate for personal and business uses, easy to administer and manage Cons Receiving a response from their support team can sometimes take a while. It saves a tremendous amount of time when you take redundant text you type frequently and make it happen in the blink of an eye. The ability to create small forms and fields for yourself is also tremendously beneficial. Cons This isn't really a reflection on the company or the software. But you have to get yourself into the mindset of recognizing when there are repetitive bits of text you are typing and how you could leverage this tool otherwise its value is dubious. Definitely recommend to try it out. It takes 2 minutes to just learn the basics of creating snippets and this is why it also a very good tool. Low effort training new colleagues and gives high results in productivity. Pros As working in Customer Care having a tool like TextExpander is crucial. It extremely improves agents response times and also make you overall much more efficient. I use textexpander for work and for personal use as well. This is a tool that anyone who uses a computer to work would benefit from. I have expanded over 17500 snippets. I have over 30+ hours time saved by just writing out snippets like email address, URL addresses, basic text like "Best regards,\*name\*" etc. Cons The UI really does need to get an update. The product itself looks very basic in UI and design and has not changed for over 4+ years, however, it's a product that you do not really look at. It's scaled very well as our headcount has grown from 300 to 900 in the last 2 years. I use it all day, saves time and your fingers. Works well across websites, gmail, and other software. Cons Sometimes it stops working and when I enter the abbreviation, it pastes the last thing in my clipboard instead of entering the phrase. Also, in gmail, the text expanded phrase can appear as a dark purple text instead of black, but this is fixed if you highlight and select "remove formatting" in gmail. Review Source E. V. Pros For those who type the same blurbs on a daily basis. Or have a boilerplate document they copy and paste from: This is about the most essential software you can use. All you have to do is create a text snippet and use your set code to auto-pop your words into an email, report, document, etc. Cons More of a caution than a con: If you are using this software across devices, make sure that they are all within the same update. I also really like how easy it is to use and how we can share snippets as a team. Cons It's hard to add new snippets, yes they'll suggest snippets here and there but that over bombs you with notifications, most of which aren't good. Anything I type more than once can quickly and easily be made into a snippet. There's nothing more satisfying than having a very long, detailed set of instructions populate in my document with a few keystrokes and a snappy little sound to tell me TE has been hard at work! 🤓 Pros The ease of use. The learning​ curve is minimal. I love that the new update allows better visualization of snippet components. Cons I'd like it to be a little easier to organize snippets into groups as you're making new ones and know which group your new snippet is going. We have a process of sending out monthly emails for various reasons and this has made us more efficient as we’re contacting over 30 clients. There’s no need to copy and paste or even type out any elongated greeting. We can insert it into TextExpander and it saves us so much time! Pros What I like most about TextExpander is the ability to use codes that expand into commonly-used communication and so much more. Pros It saves me so much time and is uncomplicated to use. Cons The feature that positions the cursor in the snippet doesn't always work, or I'm using it wrong, but I cannot find a solution. I primarily use it to replace words or phrases I type that have a specific formatting (bold, italicized, etc.) and to create email templates. Pros This software takes the tediousness out of typing words, phrases, sentences, or even paragraphs that I use often. There is an incredible amount of functionality built into this unassuming interface, and I love finding ways to shave minutes and even seconds out of my workflow. One of the best features is the ability to insert specific fields (name, date, etc.) within a snippet; once you activate that snippet, it prompts you to populate that field as well. This works great for personalizing a stock email. Cons When I use TextExpander with Google docs, there are times when it replaces the short code with nothing. I've not experienced this in any other application, such as Microsoft Word or in gmail. I can write a whole email with just 3 keystrokes, totally awesome. I don't have to worry about typos either because it has a built-in autocorrect function. It's indispensable to me. Pros TextExpander allows me to quickly fill-in notes that I write everyday. I use to it to create and write templates for medical note taking and it ends up saving me a lot of time. Cons My least favorite thing about TextExpander is it will occasionally shut down mid note, losing everything I have written. This can lose me 15 minutes at most each time it happens. Whatever repetitive tasks you have may be automated by creating templates of what text to provide and recalling these templates during your various workflows. If you are committed to setting it up properly and forcing yourself to adapt to use the various shortcuts required to recall these templates throughout your work-day, it can work great for you. Cons I found the software too inconvenient and difficult to use as part of my daily workflows. I found it easier to just create a few email templates (save them as drafts) and use them when needed. NOW I am pretty upset with TEXT EXPANDER and at the moment, wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There's literally no support, you are just sent an email that tells you to check out their blog. Pros I love Text Expander, however it has not been working for over a month and I have not been able to get any support from Text Expander to rectify the issue. When functional, it is a great time saver. Cons Lack of Support or number to call to get help with issues.
