We had pros and cons throughout the years using it. But I do miss easy creation of contracts. Pros User friendly (to a point), easy to access. We used it for years so when going into a new software I definetly miss certain aspects to it. Cons Simple things like creating PO's, CO's or SC's was good but then in one of the applications, if you added a line item accidentally or had to change it before it was submitted, you literally could not delete the line. Made no sense. So you would have to print to PDF and edit it or print and white out the line. Always had errors on it so unsure if it was the application or our server but we always had our IT working on it or reaching out to customer service. Conveniently always happened on payroll week. Payroll reports run very smoothly and updates are on time. Pros Detail of structure and ability to have all years accessible at one time. Inquiry section is very good for finding items with batch numbers so that you can go look up any specific transaction after the fact. Support is amazing. The degree of thoroughness and ability to assist with any issue you have is above and beyond. This is through the Online Support section. Cons Reports - common reports had to be made special and were a paid for add on. I feel that if you are in a specific State or Province you should have all the reports that are required by the Government available for you to utilize and not have to pay to get them created. I dislike whomever owns our contract with Sage now. To get any answer to any question automatically costs you. Very unhappy with how that is set up. Our organization is small, and we don't use all of the modules within the system (e.g. payroll & inventory); however, the ones we use suit our needs. Pros It gets the job done, is predictable, and never glitches. I haven't run into any bugs or issues with Sage300 since I started using it six years ago. (The only bugs or issues have been with the interface between our CRM program and Sage 300, and the CRM program itself.) Cons I would like to be able to add comments to various items within the system. An accounting system I used to use allowed the user to enter "Shift+F2" comments on invoices, transactions, etc. The comments were only for the users of the system to see (i.e. internal comments) but were incredibly useful, and in some cases could be printed out on our AR & AP Aging reports. Additionally, I would like the ability to build my own reports. The canned reports that are offered to us are sometimes not what is needed. The on line help is very knowledgeable. They know the system very well especially when it comes to troubleshooting the updates. Pros It is highly customizable and very integrated. We use custom reports almost entirely although sometimes they have to be updated with version updates Cons We have had it for 20 years and the annual renewals are getting way too expensive for the value. Only reason we keep sage 300 is the cost and bother of switching. Also, updates are very painful from an IT perspective. Pros Consultant botched the deployment, provided little support or direction, so we abandoned roll out in favor of a modern ERP. Cons It was anachronistic and opaque. It was cutting edge 25 years ago when it was ACCPAC. Sage has done little to bring it to the modern era. Poor value for money. It appears that they are not bringing functionality that we really need EFT payments, etc. are just not working with sage 300. We’ve got 35 bank accounts but only one place to hold the banking information for EFT because it’s housed in the wrong place it should be on the bank accounts and pulled into that task depending what bank you pull. I’ve sent a list of essential innovations to multiple people at Sage and no one is doing anything to improve the product. Pros Reliability, and user friendly, we have been using Sage for almost 40 years. Customer support is great!!! Cons The biggest issue and well known is their report writing tool. Very difficult to create reports and the export to excel is not friendly at all. We also use TaiRox that integrates with SAGE 300 for Collections CRM. It would be nice if SAGE 300 had their own CRM for AR collections. Pros We used Softwriters (Frameworks) Pharmacy Operating System and the SAGE 300 AR module is integrated into their billing system. The integration is seamless and works great and is very reliable. Cons We use SAGE Intacct for our Accounting system and it seems much more advanced than SAGE 300 in terms of screen navigation and reports. Larger union contractors will struggle with the system. Sofrware integrations will be extremely challenging, especially for contractors wanting to outsource payroll. You will need a Sage consultant. Be prepared for lots of manual processes with Sage 300. Pros General Ledger, Job Cost, and AP Functions were overall solid. The software was capable for smaller contractors. Cons As we grew, we found the manual workarounds to be extremely cumbersome and time-consuming, to the point we lost employees. There was no automation for WIP, no revenue recongntion, no way to forecast backlog, and no gross profit recognition inside the system. The data base was not bi-directional, so writing information into it was nearly impossible. This meant we could not do any project forecasting inside of the system without bolt-on software. In-house payroll was very manual and we worried about errors, especially with our complicated labor burden formulas.
