It is a reliable platform for rank tracking, competitor analysis and website management. The tool is easy to use because of its good navigation, and it works well for team collaboration when sharing insights with colleagues. Although the value for money can be a challenge for smaller businesses, the quality of data and stability of the platform make it a strong choice for serious SEO Work. Pros Ahrefs is very strong in rank tracking and competitor research. I can clearly see keyword positions and how they change over time. The navigation inside the tool is clean and easy, so moving between Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and reports feels smooth. For website management, it helps me quickly audit pages, links and content gaps from one place. From a security point of view, access control and account management feel reliable for professional use. It also supports team collaboration well, because multiple people can review the same data and reports easily. Cons The biggest concern is value for money, especially for freelancers and small teams, because the pricing is high. Some reports are powerful but not explained clearly, which can slow down work for new users. It's a treasure trove of incredible digital marketing data - particularly for SEO, PPC and social research. My personal opinion is that it's handling the pivot to GEO really well and remains a staple of my digital marketing toolset. Pros Organisation of massive data into really simple to follow 'flows'. I think just about everyone will find their own fairly unique way of doing the reporting they need but unlike some of the competition - that's fantastic! Find the data, deep dive into it, explore, collate lists, download, analyse. There's so many opportunities to use this data set. Cons I think tools like this start as one thing and then try to move into full stack analysis or usage tools. Ahrefs has done this - so perhaps you're paying for things you don't need - but it has handled it a touch more gracefully than other software. Consultant Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Declining quality of data since 2023" September 24, 2025 2.0 Overall the traffic estimates Ahrefs show are extremely misleading my opinion is that marketing agencies should no longer use this tool as a point of reference about traffic levels on a website. The outdated impression of Ahrefs as a reliable reference is causing damage in the industry. The keyword search has been pretty good as an ideation tool, but I worry that now that they don't access 2+ pages of SERP they will no longer have the data to provide matching queries and related queries that were so great for my process. TLDR processes relying on Ahrefs need to be rebuilt now! Pros We are still a paying user of Ahrefs at TheoryDigital but honestly, there's less and less to like. I have been extensively using the keyword research tool though, to produce writing prompts. That's the only thing that's keeping me there. Cons They quit tracking niche keywords in like 2023, probably because of the server cost. So for websites in tiny niches the traffic would routinely be estimated as 0 unless you ranked on major, mainstream keywords. This costed webmasters agency business because some agencies had a process where they evaluated traffic based on Ahrefs and would not accept any alternative way. And now in 2025 they no longer track any positions that rank at over 10th place in Google, because the forced pagination in Google API would make their costs also prohibitive. It has also been very helpful with competitor research to find keyword ideas I would never have thought of. I also use it to track position rankings and backlinks. Pros Ahrefs is the best SEO tool for keyword research and competitor analysis. I've tried other software like SEMRush and Moz but found that Ahrefs is the most accurate regarding keyword difficulty. I also like the backlink tracking, as well as competitive research tools to find keyword ideas from competitors as well as backlink suggestions. Cons There is a bit of a steep learning curve to get started, and at first, Ahefs interface can seem quite overwhelming and intimidating, as if there is perhaps too much information. However, Ahrefs have excellent YouTube training resources that help you understand all the important features and feel comfortable using Ahrefs within a couple of hours. There are also great tutorials for people completely new to SEO. Although to take advantage of Ahrefs' most important features, you need to pay for the Standard Plan, which is quite expensive for small businesses, startups, and bloggers compared to the Lite plan. There is also no longer a paid trial version available. I have been using it for 2 years already (switched over from SEMrush) and I love it. I have spent hundreds of hours, I run my entire agency on it. Overall a very solid tool. Compared to SEMrush (and reason why I still use Ahrefs) great dashboard, easy to use. Cons Since the new pricing model it's a pain. You are being charged "credits" for just breathing around the software. Logged into it 2 times, looked at a keyword ranking that's already generated and I "consumed" 8 credits. There is no exact grid to know what uses up your credits, not to mention I think it's silly to pay extra for seeing the HOMEPAGE (dashboard, which loads instantly) or doing your regular work.I am AFRAID to use this software (that I need to and pay over 200 bucks/month to use), because I'll get slapped with "extra" credits and even more money to be paid. They have removed features and pushed them into the 400 bucks tier, in an eternal chase to squeeze even more money. I am a business owner myself, but the greed they display is shocking.I am currently trying to understand how SEMrush can do most of my needed tasks and just save my money in the future. I did bother to write this review (which nobody will care for), because I was an enthusiastic user, I still love Ahrefs to bits, but I cannot pay a fortune just to view a dashboard and run 2 reports. We also allow grandfathered users (like yourself) to keep their legacy plans, provided they don't interrupt them. From what you're telling me, it looks like you've probably discontinued it. Cons Here's what no Youtuber/ahrefs-affiliate will tell you: after you pay, you will realize that EACH LITTLE click you make on the platform consumes a credit, and for 100 EURO per month, you have only 500 of those. Literally. Just 500 credits. I started my keyword research, and schwupps - almost 100 credits gone. EACH STEP you need while looking for keywords/related topics consumes credits. This meant large agencies paid the same subscription price as a one-person SEO (often a beginner). The best way to differentiate usage was by how many "data requests" each user was pulling. Hence "credits" were born. Credits get consumed when accessing reports and requesting new data from all our core tools, Dashboard, Alerts, and standalone tools (like Batch Analysis). Site Audit and Rank Tracker DO NOT consume credits. However, we are very transparent about them. I mainly use Ahrefs to do competitor analysis, achieve my keyword research, and find new backlinking opportunities. Ahrefs also offers a content explorer, which shows the most shared content on a topic. This helps me find popular content to share on social media. For me, it's an essential tool for achieving my SEO goals. Pros It provides detailed keyword and backlinks analysis, which is why I like Ahrefs. The overall UI is clean and easy to understand data visualization. Additionally, I find it useful that I can get a full audit of my site to know how my site performs and where I need to improve or fix technical issues (broken link, 4xx errors, internal links recommendations, and so on). Cons Ahrefs is not a cheap tool, but it can replace many others in the field of SEO. It might not be suitable for those looking to get started on a budget. On every plan, Ahrefs offers a keywords rank tracker (multiple locations, devices), which is very useful when you are working on your On-Page SEO. I have found ahrefs is a very helpful tool for SEO experts. I can do everything that requires to rank my website. I can do the overall competitor analysis with that tool.
