While it does streamline some processes, its cost does not justify the added convenience. While price changes are normal in business, there does not seem to be enough communication or justification for the price changes with QuickBooks Payroll. Pros QuickBooks Payroll makes it easy to set up employee payroll. It calculates and updates payroll taxes, and it allows easy payment of taxes to the applicable state and federal governments. One person can effectively manage payroll and do it quickly and efficiently. Pros It is very simple to use and set up. We can integrate other core parts of our business like insurance inside of it. It takes a lot of manual work off someone's desk. Cons Sometimes you are limited from doing specific things, if it were more customizable to a business it would be nice. Since 2015, we have been running the software and it hasn't given me any grief. All the QuickBooks software is great. Pros It gives me the flexibility to work from anywhere. Even if I'm in my cottage, I can run the payroll. Also, I can integrate with other software like Connecteam. Cons Currently, I haven't experienced a difficulty with the software. Cons It took some time and training to get familiarized with the features and effectively evaluate it's value and its multiple features and uses. Video tutorials helped a lot. It allows for complex tax brackets and calculations. I would hughly recommend for someone who is looking for an easy payroll management software. Pros It seamlessly integrated with Quickbooks Online. Taxes were accounted for in the payroll as well. Can easily track hours and access records. Cons There is a heafty annual cost for full accessibility of all the features. I no longer use this because I no longer need to manage my own payroll, however because of how simple the platform was in general, and for headline figures, I would use it again. Pros Typically it is easier to use than other market leaders. Once you are familiar with the platform it is easy to find what you need, the inclusion of a bookmarking/favourites feature helps with this also. Cons On some aspects of Payroll, it seemed to over complicate the process, such as whenever you made changes to an employee, the process could be simplified to be more streamline and also less jargon and more helpful tips and text for functions relating to payroll specifically such as NI rates etc. Switched from [Xero](https://www.capterra.com/p/120109/Xero/) Xero didn't offer the features at the time and was really over complicated. I promptly contacted support and was told it would be fixed. It was not. The problem remained through September of 2024, despite over a dozen conversation I had with their support team. I ultimately canceled my subscription and hired a local payroll company instead. Pros QuickBooks Payroll was fine until I needed support. At that point, it was cumbersome and frustrating to deal with agent after agent over multiple tickets and months to address the issue, which was never ultimately resolved. Cons Their support is completely lacking. If you need any level of professional service, work with a payroll company directly. I literally spend hours of my time talking and chatting with their support to address what they described as a "software issue" with my account. Alternatives considered [Paychex Flex](https://www.capterra.com/p/119841/Paychex-Flex/) Reason for choosing QuickBooks Payroll It appeared to be easy to use and similar cost as a local payroll company. Which for mine is thankfull. Pros It is easy to do your own bookkeeping. It is easy to keep up with receipts, vendors, income etc. Cons It is not easily programmed with all software's compatibility.
