I've used it at previous jobs and have introduced it in every new job. The amount of time saved is staggering. Pros The reliability and ease of use of PDQ is great. I also love the ability to customize and create packages. If you can script it, you can deploy it. Cons I still like the idea of PDQ Link, or similar software. During the pandemic, a lot of our machines were never on our local network, so PDQ Deploy and Inventory had limited use for us. We had no way to deploy software to users unless their machine was back on our network. Even when users are using a VPN to connect to our network remotely, deployments still don't work (probably something on our end). I am currently looking at other options like FileWave to do off network support and inventory. Review Source Charles C. I wouldn't want to work somewhere that didn't have this software. My life is so much easier. Quickly find and patch computers & push out software and updates. Pros For us, the patching component was the most important part. We were using another product that we always had to struggle to complete patches and even then it was a pain just to be able to see which machines needed patches. PDQ deploy made our lives so much better! Cons There are three things I would like to see them do: first, a cloud based approach for deployment and patching where we dont need the computers on the company network to handle them - this is in the works from my understanding. Secondly, add the ability to capture the last logged on user and store it with the rest of the attributes where we can add that as a column. Finally, add an imaging component where we can setup, build and manage images within the same pane of glass - they recently acquired an imaging software company, so I hope this is on the roadmap! IT Technician II Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Still learning" April 15, 2022 5.0 I've only been with the company for a year and I've been tasked to manage this software, therefore, I'm still learning how to use it and learning all its functionality. The end goal is to use PDQ to automate as much as I can, including patch updating and maintenance. I have not gotten this advanced in the software just yet. When I get stuck on creating a new package, and i just feel like the software cannot possibly accommodate what I'm trying to do, but so far i've been proven wrong thanks to the support backing it. This program is pretty capable. Pros The quality of the product can really be hampered by it's development backers. If the support is not readily available, it can affect the quality of the product, even if the product itself is really good. I have not used much deployment software, but I do know that PDQ deploy is a much cheaper option than other provider's out there. So far the customer support has been outstanding which puts it ahead of anything else i've used. What made me keep using it was how flexible I could get with deployments when used in conjunction with their inventory product. You really want both of these to take full advantage and the cost still remains reasonable. It is easy to setup something like monthly patching using the packages that PDQ maintains and updates have it auto update these packages on your system after a delay period such as 7 days then push it out to all systems as they come online. We even use it to deploy out base packages on new PC builds as they come online. Cons There can be some quirks with a system being detected online and it is very important your DNS is accurate. My biggest con would really be that it does not do a great job with remote users because there is no agent on the device. This is being addressed though in a cloud version of the product. Honestly, I couldn't be more happy with any other software. Whenever I have a task I'd like to perform, PDQ is usually always there to help me in my deployment process. Pros Being able to create PowerShell and CMD scripts to run locally on a device is amazing. I've created multiple scripts that run easier from PDQ than from a PSSession (i.e., administrative tasks that are denied access). Cons There is a learning curve somewhat. I did dive in without reading too much of the help dialog, but I think I understand most of what I need for my environment (i.e., inventory dynamic groups, deployment packages, etc.). It makes it easy to push out patches and software to computers. We no longer have to go to each computer to install products. The built in Vendors is such a great feature and one I use often, it saves me from having to go out and down load software from the Vendor constantly! Pros It is easy to use and makes my job more efficient. Cons I would like the Deploy and Inventory products in one interface. I understand though that people may only want one of the products. It would be nice to have them integrated together for those that use both products. Pros This has saved us so much effort in maintaining the integrity of our software products on our domain endpoints. In addition to the pre-built library, it has been a godsend to be able to create customized packages and get them deployed quickly. When we were hit with Hafnium on our Exchange server and moved to O365, I created a customized package to remove our previous suite and get out the latest O365 suite to our endpoints with about an hour's work on PDQ Deploy. July 2, 2021 5.0 We have been using PDQ for the past 10 years and it keeps getting better and better. The installs are fast and responsive. Their video training is excellent as well as the videos are straight and to the point with great screen captures and explanations. We will never be without PDQ! Pros This application allows us to push out "one off" applications and gives us the ability to know right away if the application install was successful. They have a ton of templates built for commonly used applications and constantly updating their pushes and templates. Their support is second to none! They are super responsive and always willing to go above and beyond in helping our team with application pushes that are out of the ordinary. If an application fails to install successfully from a push, you can also email support right from the error message without having to do copy and paste. More support teams should follow their lead. We were able to keep all our computers and softwares updated, and we have pushed some Windows build updates through PDQ Deploy, which worked very well! If you do not have a inventory/deploy solution on your environment, and cannot spend so much money with it, go with PDQ without think twice, you will not regret! Pros It is easy to implement, configure and to use it, everything on this software is so intuitive, even if you not read the manual you can do more than 50% of the software functionalities. The software has a wide variety of options to deploy softwares to your computers, also, if you spend a few bucks more, you can buy the PDQ Inventory, which works very well integrated with the Deploy solution. Cons The error messages on the deploys are not so clear, it difficults the troubleshooting on the first time without some research. Senior Network Engineer Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Affordable option with low barrier to entry but highly customizable to fit your needs" July 13, 2022 4.0 We have been able to use PDQ Inventory to finely tune our PDQ Deploy schedules and deployments, as well as to plan hardware refresh cycles and do patch management, etc. Pros Easy to set up but highly customizable with SQL and PowerShell Cons Some aspects of building reports and collections are not intuitive. e.g. using "All, Any, Not All, Not Any" group filters instead of simple nested and/or operators. There is also some overlap between Reports and Collections in terms of functionality that can be confusing. Building a lot of collections, especially nested ones, gets very cumbersome and slows down the software considerably.
