Fazit: Trotz kleiner Schwächen überwiegen die Vorteile von Ranorex ganz klar. Es ist ein komfortables und flexibles Testautomatisierungstool, das durch seine Offenheit für C#-Code praktisch unbegrenzte Möglichkeiten bietet.

Pros

Wir setzen Ranorex seit einigen Jahren für eine in Java geschriebene Desktop-Anwendung ein und haben überwiegend gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Besonders positiv hervorzuheben ist die Möglichkeit, eigenen User-Code in C# einzubinden. Damit lassen sich praktisch alle Anforderungen umsetzen, was Ranorex extrem vielseitig macht. Auch die Integration mit unserer SQL-Datenbank funktioniert reibungslos. Testdaten können unkompliziert eingebunden und genutzt werden. Die modulare Struktur ermöglicht die Wiederverwendung von Code- und Recording-Modulen, und Testfälle sowie Test-Suiten lassen sich gut aufbauen und durch Datenbindung komfortabel mit den Testdaten aus der Datenbank verknüpfen. Das Reporting ist insgesamt sehr übersichtlich und liefert die relevanten Informationen in einer gut aufbereiteten Form. Sehr hilfreich ist außerdem der Ranorex Spy, mit dem sich UI-Elemente zuverlässig identifizieren lassen. Insgesamt bietet Ranorex ein komfortables, übersichtliches Arbeiten und stellt ein sehr leistungsfähiges Testautomatisierungstool dar.

Cons

Es gibt nur wenige Punkte, die im Alltag störend wirken. Der Ranorex Spy zeigt gelegentlich Instabilitäten und kann in seltenen Fällen sogar Ranorex mit zum Absturz bringen. Dieses Problem lässt sich abfedern, indem man vor dem Einsatz des Spy im Ranorex Studio auf Speichern klickt, dann gehen keine Daten verloren. Es ist aber dennoch etwas lästig.

I first started using Ranorex in 2015 at Kapsch TrafficCom. In 2021 I brough Ranorex to INPO. I have used IBM Witt, WinRunner, Xrunner, Rational Robot, QTP and UAT and by far I love using Ranorex the most. I cannot wait to see what Ranorex will do with AI in the coming years

Pros

The spy and tracking features are great When a script fails having a green check mark to show what is working in playback mode vs a red "x" next to what fails in the xPath just speeds up the debugging process

Cons

Moving a project to another machine and merging two projects. Honestly, I have not done this enough to feel 100 % comfortable with it. I hope to get more time to do this in my present job

Beim Umstieg von einem anderen Automatisierungswerkzeug, das sehr umfangreiche Features hat, muss man sich mit Erwartungen ja zurückhalten. Daher bewerte ich Ranorex zwar als Entwicklerlastig, aber trotzdem intuitiv zum Einarbeiten. Support und Reaktionszeiten des Ranorex-Teams sind erfreulich.

Pros

Kosten sind vertretbar. Intuitiv erlernbar. Tutorials und Hilfen im Netz sind gut verständlich. Bisher sehr guter Support.

Cons

Nur in englisch verfügbar. Kleine Schrift. Fehlende Shortcuts zur Erleichterung der Arbeit. Gleichzeitig geöffnete Tools (z.B. MS-Teams share) stören bzw. behindern die Ausführung von Ranorex.

Pros

Am besten gäfllt mir an Ranorex, das es sehr benutzerfreundlich ist und sich einfach bedienen lässt. Des Weiteren ist Ranorex sehr Vielseitig, es unterstützt die verschiedensten Anwendungen und Technologien, egal ob Webanwendungen, Desktopanwendungen und mobilen Anwendungen.

Cons

Als Nachteil fällt mir nur eine Funktion ein das er aus den aufnahmen gleich eine Dokumentation erstellt und eventuell wäre es besser nicht immer die absoluten pfade der Elemente zu nehmen um nach Veränderung des Diesiges auch die Elemente noch auffindbar sind.

When our support expired again for a period during which we could not use the program, Ranorex referred us to another support purchase, still without a working solution. This is totally unacceptable and definitely not a pro-customer approach.

Pros

Although the first year with Ranorex was fine and increased our productivity overall, the first problem that appeared after the standard support period expired gave the whole cooperation a bad taste.

Cons

Apart from the fact that if you don't buy support continuously and the problem appears after a year and a half, for example, you have to buy support for the whole past period just to get someone to talk to you, after buying support and reporting the problem it took them half a year to even get to the problem analysis during which we were without a working application. Several times we had to tediously report the same problem over and over again as we were shuffled around by support teams who had no continuity for our support case.

My overall experience was not that great. Automation has does not work well when resolution is not set as 100% and there are multiple screens and also Salesforce automation does not seem to work very well with Ranorex

Pros

It is very easy to automate using Ranorex. It does not require programming knowledge, and it identifies the DOM elements for you.

Cons

Salesforce automation does not seem to work very well with Ranorex. Automated test does not run correctly all the time.

Automated Desktop Application Testing by creating more robust test suite in a single mahchine which then can be replayed on all our 70 test machines in combination with difffreent HW model (like, Dekstop, Laptop, Workstation, Tab) and different OS Language (like Chinese, French..).

Pros

A non-programer can easily convert a recorded step into User Code Method where he/she can use any conditional statement and customize the default result with addittional info.

Cons

Reporitng & Reporing Levels can be improved by adding Table formats and more supported formats like Excel.

I was trying to get the testing function started within my development department. Ranorex helped me get testing up and running very quickly. The reports that it generated are very helpful for management to see what I am testing and how the tests went.

Pros

I have tried several automated testing suites and Ranorex Studio has the best object recognition that I have found. The repository is easily manipulated so that you can make any adjustments that are needed. Also, the support is top notch. I have always gotten an answer in a very timely manner. They were always willing to go the extra mile when I did not understand something.

Cons

The documentation. Let me clarify - I am old school and really like having the option for printed documentation. Recently, they went to online documentation and I just don't like it as much.

As I described above - Ranorex is highly useful for creating and executing stable mobile tests on our devices (Android, iOS). In future we plan to use this tool for web automation, too.

Pros

Complexity. The tool is proffesional (we have been used free Katalon Studio earlier which was buggy). It is very useful for mobile testing automation for our Android nad iOS apps. Tests are stable and easy to maintain.

Cons

Unfortunately - the costs. This tools isn't cheap. Also, Ranorex because of its complexity, it is not easy to at the first glance. You need some training and time to learn how to prepare tests.
