October 1, 2024 5.0 Givebutter is simply the best platform for small nonprofits. I have worked in nonprofit organizations for years, ranging from millions, to hundreds, to thousands of donors. I have worked with 3 large, well known donor databases, and Givebutter still comes out on top. I started working for a small organization in 2023 that had absolutely no donor database of any kind. After much research on the biggest donor database platforms, I landed on Givebutter; not only is the platform FREE (yes, FREE), but it does absolutely everything my organization needs. Givebutter allowed me to completely change the way the nonprofit saw fundraising and allowed me to streamline the organization's events in no time. Thanks to Givebutter's platform, I was able to increase the overall funds raised at our signature fundraising event by 20%. As a team of one person, that is absolutely game changing! Pros What I like most about Givebutter is its unbelievably simple user experience. Learning all of Givebutter's incredible features was extremely easy, and they provide all of the resources you could possibly ever need. Should a resource ever not be available, their customer service is some of the best I have ever seen, with a human being able to answer my questions within minutes. Cons There are small features that Givebutter doesn't have that I have experienced on other platforms (e.g. Sponsor RSVP). However, Givebutter is still young; they are working to improve their platform every day, and any recommendations for features that I have are added to a forum where other users can vote for the feature if they believe it would be beneficial to them. Most features that would be most beneficial are already in the works to be implemented, and I know that any new features I recommend will be taken into full consideration. The personalized customer experience with Givebutter is unmatched. We felt so supported during our onboarding and first campaign with Givebutter, and we were also so impressed with the Knowledge Base that Givebutter has built. While the system itself is so easy to use, our organization had a few really specific wants/questions - if we couldn't find an answer right in the platform and in the features, the answer was almost ALWAYS in the knowledge base (which again, we were very impressed by - our needs were so particular!). In the off chance that we couldn't find the answer on our own, the Givebutter team was just a quick email away. The user end experience was also fantastic for our donors. Giving was made very clear and simple, and donors could get all of their campaign related questions answered right there on our campaign page. I'd also like to highly praise the product roadmap that Givebutter has made available to customers. This was one of our main "selling" points when it came to switching giving platforms. Givebutter gives their customers a \[significant\] voice when it comes to product development and features, and they give customers direct visibility into their plans and roadmap. Gone are the days of the "thanks for your feedback, we'll let our product team know" black holes! Major props to Givebutter for creating not only a great product, but also a great experience. Pros I love how straightforward and easy to use the platform is! Nothing is particularly difficult to find/figure out, and while you can customize just about anything, there isn't SO much detail that it becomes overwhelming. It's both incredibly simple AND customizable, which is a feat to accomplish! Well done, Givebutter. Cons I would've liked more options for formatting our campaign pages (inability to center text & place two graphics side-by-side wasn't ideal), and more options for designing Peer to Peer pages. It's been a stressful experience making this transition and doing all the data work, only to discover that the above mentioned items were not as they were sold to us. We're making it work and enjoying the rest of the Givebutter experience. We really appreciate the free basic plan and the excellent customer service. Pros Streamlined payment systems, delightful customer service, and of course, it's free. We have enjoyed the event features and are VERY glad for the recent rollouts. Cons We were overpromised on a few major items on the front end by Givebutter staff. We had completely transitioned our data by the time we found this out. It's very disappointing and causes a load of extra work. 1.) Reports being raw excel and not savable/reproducible is extremely inefficient. 2.) Contacts being only individuals and not businesses, with no mode of addressing couples makes letter composition in GB impossible for us. We are forced to use mail merge in Word because of the "placeholder" last name of our business contacts. That means generating a report and cleaning it up, then doing a mail merge, and then going in and manually selecting who has been acknowledged. It's just the worst. Letters being pdf only makes no sense and turns a very basic and needed feature into an all-or-nothing stressor 3.) We were told that we could upload forms for year-end tax credits and have since found out that we cannot. The forms are state tax credit forms- fillable pdf. Big bummer. Lastly, Givebutter does not interface with Quickbooks and that creates a need for Zapier which costs more money and doesn't reliably work, we are finding. A lot of time is spent fixing Zapier and Quickbooks. Even our old dinosaur of a CRM communicated with Quickbooks, so this is a biggie. We’ve used it for multiple fundraising campaigns and our Centennial gala which included a silent auction. We used the auction feature and that was very easy. Pros The way it caters to nonprofits in multiple ways of fundraising. That you can pass on the fees or not - but the option is helpful. Ease of use creating events and campaigns. Cons There are just a few things I wish we had the option to customize. More customization of the landing pages so we can make logos bigger or rearrange where things are on the page like our brand’s colors, and fonts. September 25, 2024 5.0 Overall, my experience with Givebutter has been positive. It is quite comprehensive as a basic CRM. The support is top notch, and the platform is free to use, if you have their "tip" system enabled on donations (we do). Their support and product development teams are very responsive to input and suggestions for new features. For a medium-large organization, however, the software might to be used in conjunction with other software and tools in order to perform all the tasks needed. Pros Givebutter is a great platform for small nonprofits. The software makes it easy to accept gifts online, send acknowledgement emails or letters, create fundraising campaigns, and track donor engagement. You can also manually add donations, which is helpful to our organization, as many of our gifts are made offline. The contact import tool is easy to use. The contact profile has areas for notes and keeping track of donor communication. It is easy to see a snapshot of the donor's activity all in one place on their profile. The reporting function is well-designed for basic reporting needs. The ability to track fundraising goals on campaign pages publicly is helpful, and donors can leave notes and images on a fundraising page when donating, which adds a personal touch. Best of all, though, is their customer support. Their support team is super helpful and friendly, and their product development is always looking for ways to improve the software. You can "vote" for a product feature, and often, they are added over time. Cons Givebutter is a perfect platform for smaller organizations. At our organization, we have more extensive and complex needs, and have an additional CRM, so we've ended up needing to use both platforms. I would like to see the ability to create and print acknowledgement documents such as postcards for memorials, and the ability to mail merge the information needed from the donation transactions. At times, the interface can be too simplified, and make it difficult to find settings you're looking for. Also, there is currently no ability to track donations sent via text-to-donate codes- you see a total, but not who gave. The reporting could also be more robust. Right now, you can't run simple reports on people who unsubscribe from an email blast or bounced email addresses from the Engage module. You also can't customize the text that appears on donors' credit card statements with your organization name. It would also be helpful if a phone support number was offered to customers. You can figure out how to make it work for you in most circumstances. I think it has a lot of potential to grow and expand its functionality. I appreciate the roadmap and feedback model the company employs. Pros 1) I like the embeddable forms and the ticketing. 2) The back-end admin experience is fairly clean and straightforward. 3) I love that it has card readers and tap to pay. 4) I like that it accepts digital wallets. Cons 1) Creation of Forms: There's no differentiation between sales forms and donate forms, eg, if I have an event that is selling tickets, hosting an auction, and asking for donations, I can't choose to create a form for donations and a separate form for tickets, it's automatically a ticket form, with option to donate. I can't turn off the option to donate, and if I want to just ask for donations I need to create a new campaign. On a similar note, auctions don't have an embeddable form option. 2) Embedded Forms: Once they're embedded, they can be kind of laggy, at least on my squarespace site. The page will load, and then the form. 3) User Types: Not a whole lot of difference between admin and editor users. I wish there was some kind of volunteer user where you can control what campaigns they have access to and allows them to use the app and card reader. Operations Manager Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great suite of easy to use features - with some caveats" October 17, 2024 4.0 Pros I have loved the easy setup, the easy access to in person support, and how much is included in the free version - especially the ability to create different types of campaigns, make different fund selections available, and add custom fields to our donor database. Cons The two biggest issues we have had are these: 1. the \*optional\* fees to our donors do not always appear optional and require several clicks to remove - we eventually elected to pay a fee for GiveButter in order to remove the fee suggestion to our donors who were growing offput. - And 2. I was surprised and disappointed that GiveButter does not have the ability to "soft credit" a donor who gives through some type of investment account, which is a common way for many people to give. This has complicated things for us significantly.
