It has a cut and dry charge system and seems to be really secure as well. Cons When it is down it is down. It was really difficult to contact anyone to get my Square up and running afterhours. And oh yes! - easier and ridiculously cheaper than traditional merchant accounts for moderate card use. Cons Square was built to integrate unavoidably in my many ways hence has many features linked to its success so that If you’re only using Square to accept payments and ignoring its software features, you might be overpaying compared to many alternatives. There is so much flexibility in how you can accept and process payments and Square's latest improvements truly make it a seamless way to keep payment records! Pros I've used Square for over ten years now, across multiple businesses. I've been very pleased with the ability to run various types of transactions and without a monthly fee. Cons The Virtual Terminal can be buggy, the phone app is prone to freezing. I wish the reports linked to actual transaction (for instance, if I see there was a spike in sales on December 15th according to the reporting graph, I'd like to be able to click the 15th from the report and see a list of transactions). The other grievances have actually been dealt with as Square continually improves their service! Pros Getting started with Square is very simple: account setup is fast, there are no complicated merchant-account applications or long-term contracts.Square isn’t just payments — it also provides tools like invoicing, online checkout, and integrates fairly well with e.g. ecommerce or appointment-based businesses. Cons The flat percentage-per-transaction model can be more expensive than custom merchant-account rates if you do a lot of sales, or have large-ticket items — so for high-volume businesses, fees may become significant. I have yet to run into any issue that would make choose another credit processing platform. Pros The platform is easy to use and I no longer need device to accept payments. I can allow my clients to tap to pay via my phone. I also like that it has many features that make running my business easier. Cons The fees. Although the fees are not that high, since I use a different group for my services I pay fees to both parties which lessens my profit. November 26, 2024 5.0 We've used Square Payments for the last 4 years and during that time, Square has made a ton of updates that improve the software. For example, we've used their Payment Link option to collect payment from clients retroactively in situations where their card was declined or the wifi was down at the time of service. Pros Square Payments is easy to set up and begin accepting payments for small businesses. It has integration with our accounting software so we can easily categorize payments as they occur and offers great features like transaction reports to stay on top of your money. Cons Square payments does take a fee for each transaction but that is the norm. It looks professional on the receiving end and easy for customers to make payments confidently, as Square is a well known name. We can get money deposited into our account quicker than the old merchant service we used. Pros The pricing is competitive. The invoice templates we can send to customers are customizable. Cons There is a lot of extra clicking to get between invoicing and just taking a payment, which could be minimized. You aren’t charged up the you know what for processing payments that larger companies ding small businesses for. Cons Like many processing and pos tools, you have less customization options and tools when dealing with a small business.
