I have found that i always have gotten personal and helpful service when needed and the staff is always open to new ideas on how to assist artist users. The fact that you can upload multiple photographs per item, including provenance documentation and everything else, makes it a "system of record" that could be extraordinarily useful beyond its focus, which is really working with artists. Bottom line, I love this tool. It's something I tried to create for myself using FileMaker. This works better. Pros Artwork Archive has proven invaluable while managing the art collection that is a part of my mother's estate. The ability to quickly create private rooms focused on specific parts of our collection has been a lifesaver. Cons The user interface requires a lot of back-and-forth clicking to update things. There should be more shortcuts built into it to move from editing one to editing the next in a collection. Also, it's priced for professionals and could be extraordinarily useful for people with their own small personal art collections. I suspect there's a trade-off between different types of capabilities at different price points that would really allow them to expand their market. I can add Artist Archive to my website so visitors can see all my work cataloged in a searchable database. Now I can be more selective with what items I want to highlight, but still show more of my work for review. Pros The Artwork system is so well organized and fits my needs so well that it's almost like they created it for me. Cons Only that I didn't find Artwork Archive earlier. I've lost many images in Lightroom when upgrading my systems because Lightroom is not very intuitive. We first started using the database in April and have ramped up recently, aiming to publicly launch the online website in February for our customers! It has been incredibly easy to use and easy to get accustomed to for a first-time learner. Pros I love finding new features, like the bulk editing tool, which has been a life saver! The program is also incredibly affordable, which was super important to us as a small nonprofit that needed a database but could not shell out a ton of money for one! Cons The database can be a little limiting at times, as you can only edit the backend so much, for example certain drop downs are set. But the Artwork Archive team is very responsive and open to feedback! However, my museum has both art and historical artifacts, and using it for those can be slightly awkward. I credit that to entering the information into the archive and seeing it reflected back. I still have hundreds of pieces to enter, but I'm happy with what I've been able to acheive thanks to the introductory webinar and the excellent help of the staff. Pros I'm thrilled that I am able to store so much information from size and price of a work, to the location and the expenses occurred along the way. It didn't take long to learn how to create a "piece" record for an individual artwork, but it took several days for me to appreciate the amount of data I could enter! I'm excited to begin the new year charting all of my expenses and income on AA and happy that I no longer have to spend minutes searching my computer for whatever file holds the information I'm looking. I'm also grateful that the staff of AA respond quickly - important as sometimes transactions with art are fast moving. Overall a great value. Cons I think that the public profiles on AA could be more aesthetically pleasing. In comparison to the website templates on a site like SquareSpace, the visuals are a bit stiff and the way in which the art populates the portfolio appears crowded. No regrets. Pros Artwork Archive was very easy to use and I quickly felt I could move around it it confidently. The learning curve was not steep at all. It is easy to manage the artists in our collection, easy to manage our different collections, and we are beginning to use it to manage our exhibitions in each of our galleries. Cons There are not many cons to Artwork Archive from our point of view. Perhaps the only one being that we can't "thumb" through images of our collection with the click of an arrow. It can be used as a one-stop database for artworks, locations, donors, artists, organization members, etc. Pros Artwork Archive delivers great value for the money. As a collection management tool, it offers everything you need - the categories for data management line up perfectly with everything you need to record. It's also very easy to master. Cons I've been using the Artwork Archive for 10 years as a collection management tool.
