Thanks to Samsara's customer support and training, I was brought up to speed very quickly on the platform and its functions. Pros Samsara allows us to track our fleet and mileage and use that information for safety, IFTA, HOS, and other essential functions, all in one place. Cons The new AI integration has not been a big help to our services, and I feel like is a distraction when navigating the platform. Overall it is a great ELD, easy to install, easy to use and very dispatch/driver friendly. I can't imagine there is a better overall product on the market. Pros Ease of setup/installation Great Interface - we evaluated several options and none have as nice of a user interface Truck Diagnostics - Get alerts and can see truck codes as they happen. So we can get drivers to a shop and most times have the issues diagnosed. Video footage has cleared our liability from several accidents. Reporting is good - but with all the information they collect it needs to be better. Driver - ease of use - drivers aren't the most tech savvy and we haven't had any drivers have any trouble navigate the app. Cons Samsara is a premium price - it gets expensive for small fleets - but the biggest issue is that they continue to come out with features and want to nickel and dime for every feature. The product is already really expensive - quit nickel and diming your loyal customers. Camera Quality is just OK. It captures the major stuff, but you cannot read a license plate on a vehicle driving 10 feet in front of you. Renewals/Licensing - this has to be the worst process of my entire life. The need to fire everyone in this department and start over. It is brutal to try and renew licenses. Customer Service - we have a sales rep, but we need a customer service rep. If we have issues you email/call the help desk. Level 1 can NEVER help and it takes days to get an answer. It would be nice to have a customer service rep to assist with issues. He collects and provides the information he receives for the Samsara system. As our Fleet Manager we use the Fleetio system with the Samsara system. Cons The tape or adhesive used for the windshield camera mounting comes detached at times from the heat. Mechanics often disconnect the Samsara brain from the OBD port. Drivers often do not plug it back into the port which causes delays in receiving vehicle information. The dashboard is easy to teach drivers, and they pick it up fast. The cameras and the playback video is much easier to see and use vs Netradyne that I have also used in the past. I have had recent help from customer support as well. Their patience and thoroughness is also much appreciated. I also love the having my Fleet Screen up all day to reference where everyone is. Would I recommend them? Yes. But would everyone accept it right away? I’m not sure I’d have to be a pretty good salesman. Pros I like a lot of things about Samsara, the customer support, the accuracy, the features, and the cameras. The cameras could still be improved, but overall I’m happy with the system. Cons I don’t really like the constant updates that slow things down, or the new features that show up without a clear explanation and often aren’t needed. The payment process is also a bit unclear. There are good things, but there’s definitely room for improvement. The IFTA reports could definitely be improved, as well as better control over speeding. I also want to mention the updates the data connection is limited, and with weekly updates this often causes incorrect hour calculations for drivers. When it comes to hours, this is a real issue, especially because Samsara is considered one of the best ELD devices in the USA, and my company uses it mainly because the logs cannot be edited. Because of that, Samsara should improve its services and make things easier for drivers, not force them to do “math problems” just to guess how many hours they will have. The data available for helping me build a strong safety culture is top notch. In addition to video snips that I can review with drivers, I am able to deep dive so many different factors (speed, accelerator on/off, etc) and supply so many hard data points to the drivers and help them see exactly what happened and why. In addition, the videos and data help me fairly dismiss an event when we find something triggered for the "right" reasons, which protects their safety scores. Example...a harsh brake event because a deer ran out in front of the driver. Harsh braking was the correct action. From an administrative perspective, reviewing DVIRs, HOS, driver efficiency, etc is easy and seamless. The menu layouts are well organized and intuitive. The system reacts quickly to my clicks with very little load time. The overview of my fleet is used daily to quickly allow me to see where my drivers are at any time. Trucks are often passed from driver to driver and the ability to make timing judgements based on where they are has been invaluable. The system is very easy to learn and there are many short training videos to help walk you through everything. Pros One stop shop. I find myself getting so many things accomplished with Samsara. It is smooth, quick and intuitive. Cons It would be nice if I had the ability to create a custom dashboard or home page that would have the things I want to see every time I open the platform. This coaching technology is the only thing that is going to save the transportation industry. Each year, insurance rates continue to go up as does the number of lawsuits filed against carriers. Pros The AI Following Distance has made this system the ultimate Safety System. The Following Distance information that is captured along with Speeding, Harsh Brakes, Rolling Stops, and Lane Change Departures allows an organization to identify risk with their drivers. Thus, allowing drivers to be coached on safe driving habits. Cons Not having a paper log app option. The scoring system should use GPS speed to capture the vehicle speed for the scoring system. We are currently looking to enhance our efficiencies by looking into the routing using Samsara. The reporting and tracking has giving us the tools necessary to see where our efforts need to be placed to be more efficient. Pros I really like the ease of use and the reports. We are really using the reports to assist us with tracking, performance, and efficiency. The value we currently gain has given us insights into the truck and driver performances. The support we receive has been tremendous. We have had questions and a couple issues that were resolved quickly and the first time. Cons Prior to the latest updates, In would have said the need to have one place to look at critical information. The camera and videos are great option to have also. We are able to see where our drivers are at all times. Pros What I like most about Samsara is the accurate tracking on our trucks and trailers. It is a must have for our company. Cons Samsara will occasionally glitch but it does not take long for it to correct itself. Sometimes there is a small delay in tracking.
