I love RoomSketcher! I really appreciate being able to scale the room, add furniture, and share snapshots, along with clear overhead views. I’m so happy I found it! Pros I found it very easy to learn and navigate on my own. The online help was terrific and let me keep working independently without disrupting my workflow. I was also able to share my design with my client, and they loved the experience. Cons At first, I had to remember to click on the furniture option to see what my room looked like. I understand the concept now, but it was difficult initially to keep in mind that not every selection shows all aspects of the room. There are certainly more robust solutions, but for a relatively polished model to show customers it works for what I need for now. Pros It's a fairly intuitive software and can be useful in sharing and collaborating with clients on ideas. I had issues with the sharing feature and the customer service team helped resolve it in about one business day. Cons The inability to view the 3D models on a mobile device is a definite down side. Some of the "snap in place" movement that the platform does when moving components around a model don't "snap" to where you'd actually want something, which then takes a lot more time to find a work around to place things where you actually want them. I also don't care for the credit system of sharing models. After paying the annual fee you have to pay more to be able to share models. Everyone HATES to be nickel and dimed. While I could use more advanced software with greater customization for the annual cost, the easy-to-use platform and responsive customer support keep me happy. Pros I love RoomSketcher’s easy-to-use interface and the clean design concept sketches I can share with my customers. Cons Limited customization. For example, customers love seeing handles on their kitchen cabinets, and unless I manually place a block on each door, that isn’t an option. Owner Computer Networking Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "A Great Home Room "Sketching" tool; but allow in your budget for a some add on costs" July 21, 2025 4.0 I bought RoomSketcher (leased it for a year) for a specific project of monitoring the building a new home. While I could have tried to recreate the professional blueprint in my owned version of Visio, I elected to use this tool. It is more laser focused for home "sketching" and did a create job of creating the blueprint. I did "pay" to have them recreate the floor plan from existing plans with excellent results. In the end, the costs were a bit more than planned, but the results were great and the flexibility to use the tools of the software was great afterwards. All in all I am happy with my decision and will get a full years work of placing furniture and planning out the new home with this tool. High (no perfect) marks. It was a good choice for me. Pros RoomSketcher is a strong tool for a home user to create a floor plan without being an architect. While not a replacement for AutoCAD, it can perform more intermediate tasks with minimal effort. It has the great ability to import an existing PDF (or jpg) floorplan with known dimensions and then trace over it to recreate your own matching floorplan. It won't "auto build" your plan, but you can get very close with careful tracing. Remember to save often. Note that I am an advanced business Visio user, but I elected to use this tool instead with its focus on home floor plans. My mantra is to use the right tool for the right job and RoomSketcher met my needs. I really do believe if I used my existing Visio, I would taken three times as long. Cons Two things. It is a bit "old school" with a download local software element that works on your local desktop computer (I worked on a Windows computer) but it was nice to have it save the floorplans in the cloud and then I was able to download the software on my second laptop and continue without "buying" the software again. But here is the warning. This is a pay to use extra features. I did buy the annual plan which was mostly "reasonable" for my needs but here is the strange catch. You get a set number of "credits" that get incremented each new month which is satisfactory for almost every basic needs. And for some specific actions, they get used for certain actions. I was not quite sure what action was going to "cost" me some of my actions, and so when I wanted to perform a new action (such as back up to a new plan) I might run out of "stored" credits and would either have to buy more or wait for the month to roll over to earn more. So I did end up having to pay for more credits than my original purchase. (Frown) They need to be more transparent of what the action costs are going to be before performing the actions. On the other hand my Frown turned to a little less unhappy, as I used my credits to have them convert an existing PDF architectural drawing into a full floor plan. After submitting, it took 24 hours, but their staff did an OUTSTANDING job transforming a complex blueprint into a great RoomSketcher file, well worth the extra 10 credits. Ironically, the experience of the surprise of extra costs kind of mirrors the experience of building new home with some budget overruns. Not a deal killer if you go in knowing the issue and paying attention to the details. Our office uses it several times a week and it has been super easy to train the staff because it is so easy to use. Pros Roomsketcher is very easy to use, has a great variety of furniture and decor options. The 3D feature is amazing, and the 3D print outs are so detailed it has impressed the socks off my clients! Cons I wish there were more carpet and hardwood floor options to choose from. Pros It's easy for me to quickly mock up the floor plan of a room. I haven't tried the features were you load in an image, but I think a high quality feature like that would be super useful. Cons I think the UI is a little clunky. It requires a lot of clicking around, and features that you would generally expect to be persistently on the page (like zoom and the ability to move design around) are hidden in menus and have to be enabled. I jumped right in without watching any training videos and was do more than expected. My luck ran out and I needed help so I wanted the very easy to follow tutorials and was able to produce a floorplan for a client in 20 mins. In the client's words, "You did more for free in 30mins than the £100 an hour Architect's Technical Team managed to do in a week". I opted for the Pro version - this paid for itself in a day. I managed to land a client for life! Pros The customer service is excellent. I raised an issue and it was given the correct care and attention. The training sessions are free, regular, exceptionally helpful and professionally presented. Depending on your subscription level, you may have access to a personalised Software Trainer. I had the absolute pleasure of dealing with \[sensitive content hidden\]. \[sensitive content hidden\] was simply amazing - knowledgeable, personable with a calm/understanding demeanour. Cons The credits system should have been made clearer to me at the start. From my perspective, if you are paying a certain price as an SME business, then the functionality should be congruous. Often, an amended choice of materials selected for the flooring or room cladding will revert to the default choice. You can't copy furniture groupings i.e. if you have 60 sets of tables and chairs to include for a conference, you have to insert these individually. I often use the service to draw up floorplans. Pros I find it a great way of visualising my designs to clients. Customer support is good and its value for money is well worth it. Cons Wish there was a way of adding furniture from outside app to list as some of the options are a bit samey! Would also like a sloping ceiling option.
