August 4, 2025 4.0 A wonderful tool for Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA enhancement) and Manufacturing Process Optimization One of the perfect tools to analyze event logs or process sequences to identify bottlenecks, inefficient step combinations and recurring tool/machine usage patterns. A worthy tool for maintenance & service data insights. A close extraction of the defect data, which can be used further in evaluations. I have not yet tried exploring the customer support section of this tool to better understand its capabilities. Would be trying to get in touch to get a few answers. Pros This software has a great Learning Curve to start with the basics and move on to build strong fundamentals. Features like 'quote management', 'invoicing' give a deep insight into the core aspects of the tool and the field. Cons Although this is a wonderful tool for obtaining deep insights into costing strategies, the time complexity is a bit of an issue. As the number of items increases, the number of possible itemsets grows exponentially. Scanning large data requires a bit longer time and seems more complex in this tool. Lags on large datasets. Personally like their professional approach to resolve the issues as soon as possible. Pros aPriori gives a wide range of options in costing and analysis that is most suitable for all stakeholders during a product development or product improvement lifecycle. It is a great tool in hands of engineers to evaluate early impacts of Cost and also helps understands manufacturing limitations and design rule violations through Design to Cost feedback. Also a great tool to understand alternate design or alternate manufacturing evaluations. It is an essential tool in hands of cost engineers to understand and quickly simulate different scenarios of cost in various regions and various parameters. A great tool for Purchasing to understand the details of cost breakdown and negotiate with suppliers on arguable parameters. aPriori also provides Business Intelligence tool with Cost Insight Reporting that is very much helpful for Project Managers to keep track of the project status and cost targets. Overall, aPriori would be a great tool for any industry that is looking to excel in industry with right evaluated approach and good understanding of Cost of the product. Thank You. In addition, it's a reasonable should cost & supplier quote analysis tool. The challenge from a team member buy-in standpoint is that we have a few big wins and more cases where we didn't get useful results from aPriori analysis. From an overall perspective, the big wins probably justify the cases where it didn't work out so well, but team members who spent a lot of time & effort without good results get a negative view of aPriori and its capabilities. Pros Upfront ability to determine costing during the design phase. Objective & detailed analysis of component cost, including optimal processing. Cons In some cases the recommendations from aPriori of diametrically opposed to what we find in our supply base. For example, recommending ductile cast iron over gray cast iron on a pound for pound cost base. We don't have any evidence from our supply base that this is true. This case discouraged use of aPriori for several key team members. We were looking for a more advance tool for should-cost and estimation of cost during engineering design phase. Costimator recommended against using their product in these use cases. aPriori has the capability to create significant value in these areas, even if implementation is more involved than we might like. In addition, aPriori costs a lot more than Costimator. (That's why some members of the organization insisted we review it, even though it wasn't a good fit for what we were trying to accomplish.) When a cost-structure is well established, it can provide the estimation for all simple mechanical components. The bulk-costing is powerful if well configured. Pros The 3D model engine can load Step parts/assemblies in seconds, recognizing the manufacturing features such as bending/drilling/machining . This makes the cost estimation automatic and much easier, comparing to other similar software on the market. Cons The annual subscription price is not easy to digest, even for large companies. We had to prepare a good business case to get the approval of purchase. Since switching to this brand, we (as a company) have been able to greatly increase the amount of internal costing support we've been able to provide to our commodity management and engineering teams. Cons Upgrade time seems to be the most painful time for me, being an administrator of the tool. Coming from a different software, I have found aPriori is easy to use and intuitive. Pros I like how aPriori is easy to use and the interface is friendly. Running scenarios is quick and easy and I like the built in feature where aPriori can analyze and figure out the proper machining for you if you don’t know what would be used. Cons At least for my application, I would like more customization on changing which holes/features are exempt from certain processes (i.e. the part is anodized everywhere except certain holes etc).
