" June 19, 2020 5.0 Backblaze is the perfect service for those who don't want to worry about what they need to back up as long as it is in the cloud and for a fair price. Pros We have used this program for the past 2 years and when we needed it after one of our computers completely died, we were able to recover everything that was in it/in the cloud. The installation process is very easy and the price is right. Cons It’s a bit tedious to recover a lot of information if you have too much but still works as promised. Fast uploading (along with you having a fast internet connection). Solid reassurance that your files are safe and backed up. Cons Can send your internet data allotment in a month into overages. Just be careful that you aren't backing up a Terabyte of Files and not having it consume your allowed data usage for the month. I learned that one the hard way, but it was my fault. My laptop is getting old, I'd been getting a lot of blue screen errors. I didn't want to trust my data to a corporation, or fiddle with finding an external hard-drive. So far, Backblaze have made the process unbelievably easy and simple. I subscribed for their services a few months ago, everything's been running seamlessly. Pros It's easy to use, automatically backs up and gives you the most important data about it. I even like that they email you if your computer hasn't connected to their cloud in a while. We wont have a full impression until we do a full restoration test or are met with a total disaster recovery scenario. Pros Backblaze was very reasonably priced (about hundredth!) for unlimited backup storage compared to a local vendor that we had used for the last 15 years that charged per GB. They offer to return backups on physical media for the price of a deposit should total disaster occur, which would be quicker than downloading several terabytes of lost data. Cons I felt that the backup software was pretty inflexible, automatically omitting certain directories and not having a tree view for backup customisation. Pros Backblaze has pretty massive cloud storage size offerings, which really best suited for enterprise usage with large amount of data protection, privacy and security needs. One of the coolest, and unique features is the ability to have a flash drive, or hard disk mailed to you in the event you need a physical device to restore from, and don't have access to the online backup. Cons BackBlaze is similar to other cloud storage providers such as Drive, OneDrive, and Box, but it falls a bit short in terms of file organization (the interface doesn't really allow for intuitive file management such as moving mass files/folders, copying, sorting, and permissions) in the same way that something like Drive or Box does. Additionally, if you're looking to use B2 to share files with clients (publically), you'll notice a lack of features in this regard as well. Review Source LG Lynn G. I don't have to use another back up system when I am traveling. I have never had a problem. Pros SO RELIABLE!!! I never worry, my business files are easy are safe, regardless of the size. I feel comfortable knowing that I have a 100% backup of my whole computer. Cons I, like many in this day and age, often wonder the security level of this backup storage service. There is some pretty serious content some folks may have stored in their backup...how secure is it? I just don't know yet. There is a constant tug-of-war on my perception of my content's safety and security. This is not specific to BackBlaze, but is inherently present because of the nature of this business. Pros The fact that there are native apps for each platform instead of cruddy Java apps. Unlimited backup storage, including any external hard drives you want to back up, is simply terrific and unmatched for the price. Cons I can think of literally nothing bad to say about Backblaze. Just a note if you use it on a laptop and have the backup frequency set to "Always." I have been able to upload backups using Amazon S3 AWS and then download and perform restores without any issue. Pros I love how easy it is to get going. the price per GB seems very good. especially for a smb. Cons There takes a little bit of know how to create backups from other sources like linux (speaking as a newbie to command line programming) but there is help out there with youtube and the support docs. Essentially the ultimate offering in cloud backup services. SSL encrypted and they'll send you your files or let you download them, plus they allow file sharing. Cons After Crashplan personal went away, I was in need of a new comparable backup service. Backblaze seemed like the best alternative. After a long time of researching new companies, I decided to give them a try. I have about 3TB of data I need to backup, but that's not all the data I have. The fatal flaw with Backblaze is it does not allow you to choose which folders and files to backup! Speeds have gone up for us, and it is really easy to set up (and then forget!). Great piece of kit to have in your daily arsenal, and something you hope you'll never need to call upon. Pros If you don't want to fuss about with settings and your primary reason is to have a backup of all of your files, Backblaze is great as a blanket backup of your system. You have control over scheduling the backup session, and you can also set a rule for pausing the backup should there be times of intense bandwidth traffic. The data is encrypted using AES military grade encryption and moved to the cloud through secure SSL connection. Or you can even create your own private encryption. Cons It operates on an exclusion based system, but I would much prefer an inclusive based system where I could visualise a folder tree of everything on the hard drive to let me choose which items to sync to online storage; easily accessible per folder synchronisation options would be great. Pros Backblaze is always running in the background and is super easy to manage through the desktop app. I love not having to plug anything in, it just works! And knowing that I can easily get a hold of an ENTIRE backup of my computer quickly (not that I’ve needed to yet!) is a recipe for success. Cons This certainly comes with the territory, but that initial backup can be quite tedious! Add to the mix doing it over a wifi connection and you’re in for a long wait.
