The main reason we switched to them is that their donation form does a great job capturing international donations, even if the donor has a complex billing address. Our old processor would sometimes decline credit card donations if the billing address wasn't perfectly formatted, whereas Donately has helped us capture those donations more reliably - resulting in a much larger donor base over time. Cons Their campaigns feature isn't very intuitive in my opinion, and charging an annual fee in addition to the transaction fees seems excessive. It feels designed with small nonprofits in mind and supports growth without adding unnecessary stress or cost. Pros What I like most about Donately is how easy it is to actually live in day to day. It’s intuitive, doesn’t take much onboarding, and works well for a small team where one person might be handling donor engagement, reporting, and follow ups all at once. We’ve been able to grow our donor base without feeling pressure to jump to a more expensive or overbuilt system. The fees are also very reasonable, which matters when you’re trying to steward gifts well and keep more money going directly to the mission. Cons As we’ve grown, there have been a few moments where I’ve wished certain reports or customization options were a little more robust. It hasn’t stopped us from using the platform effectively, but it’s something you notice once your operations get a bit more complex. Pros The advantage of Donately is the simplicity of form builder! While the software is easy to use, it also contains almost all the essential functionality you could want form a donation form. Forms integrate easily into webpages without much hassle. Campaign management usually works well. Cons The donor reporting and management system is insufficient for most purposes. Pros Donately has a lot of great features without being overwhelming and it is at a good price point for our nonprofit. We were able to be up and running very quickly to launch an online end of year campaign. Highly recommend. Cons I would like to see them expand some functionality in their reporting. For example we could easily view the Average gift, but when you have one large gift that throws that off, the Median would be better to report on. It is definitely worth it. Pros Their customer service is amazing. They are helpful and quick with their responses. They are also always improving. Cons I think the sign-in process with the captcha code can be a little finicky at times. It can take more than one attempt to get the verification right, especially when the captcha is hard to read or decipher. I have tried many other platforms and Donately was by far my favorite. The simplicity of it is so nice for a small org like ours. Pros It was super easy to set up. I was able to get everything set up and integrated with in an hour. The donate page was on my website and across social media way faster I dreamed of. Cons I would like a little more customization on the campaign pages. It is a very standard page that looks good but I had a few preferences that didn't make or break it for but would have been nice. I'm excited to learn more about the platform and leverage it in ways to better engage our donors. Pros I've used many donor CRM platforms, but Donately's intuitive integration with our website makes it so easy to receive payments and have them recorded in a searchable database. I recently started as the new general manager for a not-for-profit so having a donor management system that was easy to understand was so helpful during my first few months. Cons I'm still learning more about the platform, but I think it's a bit challenging to treat it as a full 360 donor/audience management platform. The database is built on actual transactions, but we receive donations through a few different methods. Figuring out how to record these into the platform is something I was able to learn on my own. July 12, 2022 5.0 We had to find an online solution when the pandemic canceled our in-person walk in 2020. Donately was a great solution and allowed us to facilitate our first virtual walk, which we hosted simultaneously around the country. Pros Setting up a Peer-to-Peer fundraiser takes just 2 minutes and is easy to navigate. We are able to set up campaigns for each of our regions so they can measure how they are doing as a team. Love that you have the option to upgrade/downgrade your subscription, as we only need the software for part of the year. Cons It would be nice if there was a place for people to sign up to participate (like in a fundraiser walk) without creating their own fundraiser. It's been difficult to keep up with people who give and want to be a part of it but don't necessarily want to manage their own fundraiser. Also, for campaigns, it's great that we can create more than one, but there should be an option to feed up to the larger company tracker. Lastly, some of the reporting could be more detailed, and the amount raised should be easy to capture from one view to another. Executive Director Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Perfect for small NGOs" October 31, 2016 4.0 We've been using Donate.ly for several years now. The 2 major things I like about it are: 1. You pay per donation processing fees, which are reasonable. There is no monthly fee. This makes it possible for small NGOs to accept online donations without it costing us an arm and a leg up front. 2. You can easily embed the donation form into your own website. This allows you to keep the brand of your organization and legitimizes your group because you don't send folks to PayPal or Network for Good or some other third party processor. Other than that the service is ok. I think they are updating some of their online donation tracking tools, automating some email responses, and such, but it isn't the most advanced in those features if that's what you're looking for. For instance, there is no way to automate a message to donors if their donation doesn't go through and they need to update their credit card. The donation email confirmation options are also pretty limited but we've managed to make the confirmation email look ok and work for our purposes. We use Zapier to help us track donations into Google Spreadsheets. We don't use the Fundraising pages really, but those are options and they do have peer to peer functionality. Ultimately, the service is perfect for us. It accepts donations on our website and doesn't have a monthly fee. And the customer service is amazing. I've worked personally with them a few times and they are always so personable and helpful, available via chat right through their site. Definitely recommend. We are in the process of exclusively using this site to collect donations in conjunction with Stripe because it is so much better than any other site we have ever used. One con is that donation form codes have to be completely updated on our website, rather than just updating them through Donately and having them automatically update on our site. Pros Extremely easy for our customers to use! Great customer service! Cons Not the best at allowing us to view all donors and donations at once. Sometimes the filtering is really slow. Form codes cannot automatically update on our website and have to be completely replaced after making a change to the form. You can only link one bank account to where the donations to go. We have been so much happier with your service now that our congregants can manage their own giving. This is huge! One thing that's been difficult is figuring out the best way to export data from donate.ly, say, to a spread sheet. We've not been able to do this successfully and it makes life more difficult. Pros The user interface for the giver is easy to use and clean, and looks good on our website. We love that there's an option to make a recurring gift and that we can fairly easily change the interface Cons It's been difficult to mine the information from donately (emails, data, etc) for use in our database. Board Chair Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Useful free option for receiving donations" March 11, 2020 4.0 Overall, Donately has been a great tool for our tiny nonprofit that doesn't have enough donations yet to justify paying a monthly fee. The free version covers all the basics. It's not a full donor database, but it gets the job done. Pros Donately was pretty easy to set up, and gave us a nice looking page. I was looking for an option that didn't force a donor to tip the platform, but did give the donor the choice to cover fees. I also needed to be able to enter donations that came in from other sources, which I can do on Donately. The recurring donor feature was also great. They haven't spammed us a ton with emails like some of the other free options. Cons There's no way to delete a donor. The system has no option to email me when we get a donation, so I have to go check for donations. (We can get Stripe transaction emails but they go to a different account.) I can't change the admin user email address or add users on the free version. I would like to be able to ask for mailing addresses, but my only choice is to require it or not ask for it at all. February 1, 2017 4.0 Coming into using Donately, we didn't really have anything else to compare it to as this is our first go at an online donor database. There are a lot of positives of Doantely (including the automatic receipts, it is so easy to use, our donors seem to like it so far!) and a few things our team has found challenging. (isn't really clear on how donors can log-in on their own and change information, can't easy merge contacts..etc.) But anything we haven't liked, your team has been so willing to try and implement the changes as quick as possible. Our backend CRM is salesforce and so we needed to use Zapier to create opportunities and contact records. Bryan Shanaver was quite helpful in getting that set up for us. I want to give features and functionality a 4 but no doubt it will get there with a more advanced recurrent donation logging and foreign currency, a 5 would be non-cash gifts. Make no mistake though it is great value for money, so as they grow I am sure it will be well made. I would recommend it for small to midsize non-profits at its current form.
