Pros

It is free. While there are some paid features we might consider in the future, the core product does what we need it to do. As the head of the event, I need to keep an eye on all the moving parts and know who is doing what and what still needs to get done.

Cons

With a name open, I'd have hoped that it would be one of those where you pay for support or implementation. However, some features are locked behind a monthly/yearly fee. If it was a one-time fee for non-profits, I'd consider it.

Hi Brendan, It's a pity that you rate OpenProject so poorly. Thus, it's not the product that you don't like but the fact that it costs money? We do have a set of premium features that are only included in the paid Enterprise version. The reason is that the developers also need to pay their bills. I love its self hosted option whereby the security for our sensitive information is guaranteed,also Gantt chart,task board and timelines have helped me to monitor deadlines as well as offer a clear overview into the progress of projects.

In my team I had to change our workflow several times, I was so relieved that OpenProject was able to adapt perfectly.

Pros

\- Self hosted - Very fast, and wasn’t affected by projects or users number getting larger. - Super configurable, literally everything is customisable.

Cons

\- No mobile app- No real RTL support, I was forced to design a Chrome extension for my team to modify Open Project’s UI to fully support RTL on browsers. - Sometimes I had to try several minor versions (0.x.x or 0.x) in order to find the most stable one. The latest version is not always the most stable one unfortunately.

OpenProject is a reliable long-term partner for handling tasks/projects workflows. I highly recommend it to those looking for an efficient tool to plan and manage their career responsibilities.

Pros

I like the flexibility it gives us during project's lifecycle. We are free to make any necessary changes when needed without interfering with the projects deadlines by changing task prioritization, reassigning tasks and allocating more time to urgent tasks. With OpenProject our projects have been more interactive and fun! and it's now impossible to meet deadlines. Another aspect that I find extremely handy is how it supports diverse projects from different industries thanks to lots of customization options available. I think OpenProject is on the right track of claiming a top spot in the project management spectrum.

Cons

So far it has been a great tool, but I can't wait to see what future improvements they have in store for us.

### "A great alternative to MS Project for collaboration"

It's perfect to assign tasks and keep track of their progress. Many other free tools can do this but OpenProject adds customizable workflows and detailed dependencies between tasks - and even a Gantt view. I use it for small and medium projects where live feedback from team members (progress, comments, etc.) is vital. Achieving the same result with MS Project Server would cost exorbitantly more.

Pros

I like the ease of use (I never had to explain how to use it to team members, only to project admins), the clean interface, the granularity of the configuration (most of all the possibility of activating only the needed modules for each project), the customization possibilities for categories/statuses/fact that workflows, the flexibility and ease of query design, the availability of a Gantt view I appreciated also very much that most of the essential features can be used for free without limitations (other tools like Asana limit the number of projects, tasks or team members). Setup was extremely easy (but I'm a skilled technician and tinkerer with over 10 years of sysadmin experience, so your mileage may vary).

Cons

It lacks some important features for project resources management like resource allocation (to spot overloads), resource leveling, resource calendars and resource availability percentage. It also feels a bit skewed towards sw development teams and Agile methodology, so creating a classic waterfall WBS is not as easy as it should be and requires mental discipline; among other things, it does not allow for an easy reordering of tasks after their creation. It does not allow for an easy nor complete import/export from/to MS Project (which IS arguably the industry standard). The reports are not customizable and can only include task list and details (not the Gantt view).

We tried OpenProject to track the progress of our research projects, which are distributed in nature as they are composed of different partners in different institutions. OpenProject is a solid solution for that, easy to use and with a rich set of features.

Pros

It was super fast to insert and organize the tasks/milestones for our project. The interface is so intuitive that we didn't even need to take the introductory tutorial. This lowers the adoption effort for all members of a team and therefore makes it more likely for them to be consistent users, rather than stopping updating the project after a while. The board feature is complete and useful to have.

Cons

The only thing we didn't find so intuitive was how to export the graphical representation of the GANTT chart, which we might want to have to put in presentations & co. Minor issue though.
