From the start, it was apparent that MasterControl is super customer focused and wants their customer to succeed in implementation and beyond. Their support is much better than what I've experienced with other software vendors and they value feedback and suggestions from the customers. Pros I love that all of MasterControl's modules are connected. Document management, training management, and Quality Event Management all talk to one another and help to streamline our processes. It's also very easy for basic users to learn. Cons My biggest complaint has been the lack of flexibility in Quality Event workflows. This is being solved by the new Advanced QEM product, which I'm super excited about. There are some areas that are extremely painful to work through but it's comforting to know that mastercontrol is aware and that there is constantly a plan to continue improving the products. The support that we have received (including summit) to me is invaluable. Pros I like the connectivity of the modules and that mastercontrol is constantly improving. The different options and features are consistently offering more value, if you're ready to invest in your company. Cons The different modules work slightly different depending on who developed them. Sometimes the most basic of functionality is not considered when making a product and then it can take quite a while to get that fix developed and released. Example, customization of task list, adding a star to favorite your documents from the document list instead of the infocard, not having a prefiltered supplier list, or even favoriting the most recent version of the document and making that a dynamic link not static with the version favorited. Pros Configurable aspect of the application helps to scale it. It can be used for various different site/ business needs, Linking between the records control design between roles is easy to manage. Cons User interface where we have to click and click to get to the main thing we are looking for. Risk module not publishing PDF to be shared with stakeholders, Audit module looks outdated where the similar products in the market have better interface. Despite some of the minor cons I had, I was always able to get my job done and make it work for my company in a way that give me peace of mind that everything will run smoothly. Pros I'm a fan of quality excellence. It's easy to use and makes sense for our organization. Have the regulation in our quality process makes all the difference. We're small and just getting started, having gotten set up in such a short amount of time getting this implemented helped tremendously with taking one more thing off our plate. Cons There are some cons but mostly just program things I do not like or wish I could change. Working with things like AQEM a lot, I have certain ideas in mind that would work great for the specific scenario I'm in but aren't always within the realm of capabilities on MC. Pros The integrated document and training module makes changes easier to manage compared to manual processes or other systems that are not linked. Cons The implementation can feel rushed; by the time you are starting to understand the system (infocard structures, etc.) you need to make business critical decisions on configuration that can have consequences. The 2025 Summit is my second summit attending and I’ve learned so much more about what MC can do than I knew possible! Pros I use MasterControl Qx all day in my role as a Quality supervisor. The document management was the first piece we rolled out. It is so helpful to have access to the vaults (draft, released, and archived). The collaboration step is beneficial to allow multiple inputs at the same time. Cons The portion I like the least is likely more on our behalf as a company than on MasterControl. The setting up of roles and job codes has been less than ideal. The department that initially set these up phased out and unfortunately took all their knowledge with them. The current integration has been longer and more painful than previous but in part due to size and scope of our organization. The consultant support has not been as smooth as desired but still very excited to use the product! Pros I love the integration/navigation of the tool and the connection between docs and training - auto creating courses! Cons Data migration of data. Not N easy process and it’s been a struggle. Pros The improved ease of development and flexibility of AQEM process forms when compared to the previous Qx eForms. Cons I felt the AQEM module was launched prematurely. Configuration is straight forward and the end user experience is generally positive. Pros Documents module is very intuitive. The search capabilities and different report options are great for end users. The configuration options that are available make it easy for a sysadmin to customize based on company needs. Cons The training module leaves much to be desired. Training coordinators need to use outside tools and resources to track training assignments. The most helpful use-case for AQEM has been setting up workflows for CAPA, deviations, SCARs, and even the rework process. The ease of use for creating workflows is truly excellent. It’s important to escalate issues to MC, if we don’t give feed back the issues can’t be fixed. Pros Customer Support is always very helpful and support tickets are addressed in a timely manner. User friendly. Documents are readily available and easy to track revisions. The collaboration step does seem to confuse some new users however gets easier with time. The compliance piece helps keep everything organized and documentation available during audits. Cons It’s a work in progress and can sometime have some glitches, this is normal in my opinion. When this does occur we escalate to support and they are helpful to find a resolution.
